I blame it on teen movies and teen based TV shows. When I was a young child, I thought that being '16' was something cool... not because it was (my 16th year of life was terrible and full of hardship), and it was then that I realised it was all just a stupid idea in itself. This is, however, my opinion. I never cared for massive parties like that and would rather have put the money to something more productive (even at age 16...)
