Very humble guy, willing to teach you how to master the guitar until you're as good as him (course no one's ever came that close), very comical and sweet. Gotta love the guy.
I haven't seen Eric in a few years. I used to take lessons during my formative years growing up and he was such a treat to play with and learn from. A truly wonderful person who taught me music. Still a fan of his electric stuff as well,he did way back when called The Hipperoos!! A really wonderful person.
I have actually had the priveledge of talking with Eric Loy on a couple occasions at the Depot Coffee House in Urbana, Ohio. He's a very nice guy and very willing to share what he knows:) Though i can't remember the proper name for it..he taught me how to do the 'fake harmonics' on guitar:) He is actually a big inspiration with his music... Heck, he's so nice he GAVE ME one of his DVD's! Keep it up Eric
One of the hardest instruments to play. Eric plays it like the master he is. But Eric's a bit mad. Mad in a good way I mean. He's a genius who is one of the nicest down to earth people on the planet.
Hey Derek, I know that Eric had this guitar custom built for him by a luthier out of Franklin , Ohio. I can't remember his name , but I could find out for you if you wanted to know. It has 24 strings and I think it has 3 different pickups hooked into an xlr out.
Thanks Paul. If you find out shoot me an e-mail. I am curious to know the luthier. It probably takes as long to tune it as it did to build it!! :-) -Derek
Half of it is Silent Night, half is just him showing off. I know it's really damn cool that he can do something that complicated, but the point of playing a pre-established song is to do credit to it, not to show off.
"yea, tapping and know a 60 string'ed instrument requires no skill. I mean COME ON he's not EVEN in an arena!!! what is his problem. He is so terrible. might as well quit" You people are idiots.
As most Fridays find me in a coffee shop, I have heard Mr. Loy a number of times. He may be fundamentally good and have an interesting instrument, but I find his over exuberance in both his playing and his sound levels (Eric... you're in a coffee shop, not an arena...) just spoil his performances. Last time I heard him his amp gave out towards the end of a song and at that point I thought he sounded a lot better playing purely acoustically.
a bit? I couldn't STOP hearing Silent Night. No matter how he juked that thing; thought it was the psychodelic ice cream truck remix, but I'd be delighted to replace "Do Your Ears Hang Low?"
I've known Eric for years personally. He's a very good friend of mine and I'll tell you, he's one of the finest guitarist in the US right now. His playing is baffling and mysterious! Also, Eric is about the finest person there is.
I agree. He is fantastic but should think more towards the sound than the tricks and how fast can I go.He may be the best if he put genius and being master into the sound and not the speed, and too many tricks in too short a time.Maybe showing off?
Christ, hearing this after listening to Andy McKee like a devoted zombie to brains really wants me to find some nicer music. Music with some more sense than technical modern bits and pieces in it...

I had a few lessons from Eric, and he is phenomenally good. He would smoke any of you keyboard critics.

:) I could throw a guitar and a harp down a set of stairs and I'm certain I could produce the same sound.
Seriously though. Tune that beast and play something coherent.

this is what happens when you get a guy with insane technique that doesn't spend enough time percussing his tunes. hilarious lol!

I have no idea what I meant by my earlier comment lol. I think I meant massaging or ironing out instead of percussing lol

You have an amazing instrument and technique......but please keep the melody alive amidst the gnat notes.
Have mercy on the non-guitarists out there. (Michael Hedges was so good in concert, even the non-guitarists had a great time.)
