I think that maybe "she" is refering to herself in a way? Like, "social field" could mean that the person who's attention she's trying to get is in a higher social status,and that's why they are saying they can't be with her? and she doesn't understan d why? I dunno. also just a guess. but really,wow,smart interpret. :D
