Would these be very comfortable as a dr throne for my kit? I'm do use double bass so I'm curious what it would feel like doing double with a fill while sitting on one of those cajons
Haha applying pressure to different areas of the cajon with your foot can change the tone- it's pretty tricky! or maybe he just had too much water before the solo...
I have one of these. It is very light and works fine unplugged. You just have to hit or harder. The only thing is it needs a staple surface to sit on, sand wouldn't b too good, but it's sweet and everyone seems to like the sound it makes.
Hello, everyone! My brothers and I (my 2 brothers are 15 & 13, and I am 9 years old) really love to sing, & we love to share our talents! Quite funny how some americans here want to seem smart saying the instrument is "african" (as if it was a precise term for its origins hahaha). All the countries have had influence from a lot of cultures, fortunately those africans came here and created this beautiful instrument. The cajon is widely used in many peruvian folk music such as marinera, festejo, son de los diablos, etc.
Okay, people. Calm down. The cajon is an instrument first created by african slaves. Yes, it was created IN peru, but not by peruvian people. So technically it's African. Technically. Also, to the "his moving leg looks homo" people, he slides his foot up and down the drum to change the pitch.
@AcousticNic - Also, not to sound cold but honestly I think you're getting too hung up on the ethics / morality of the slave trade at that time and using it to justify ownership of one group over another. Obviously it's an ugly history & it's a given that slave masters Spanish, American, or otherwise were oppressive which lead to distinct flavors in different music traditions. However, as those traditions evolve they take root in the new location
@AcousticNic - I see where you're comin from but I've got to side w/ some of the other people commenting, the Cajon has distinct routes in Peru. Yes, the whole foundation of the percussion itself is African in origin, but then again SO much of music is a distillation. Afroperuvian music is just less removed from its roots than say Gospel, Blues, or Rock. In my eyes, what makes it Peruvian is the infusion of the two cultures each generation.
@TMArtist13 thums to you bro. I'd really just enjoy the solo if there just weren't people who like to ramble on about the origins of cajon being "African", spanish or else..
I don't think it will necessarily replace a drummer but it sure would be great in the studio for us nondrummers when the drummer is out finding a new girlfriend to live with. also a great accent to the percussion section. I like it!
Cajon is a peruvian instrumen... It was created for black slaves in Peruit doesn't sounds like a European or American instrument..because is Peruvian 100%.. Great performance !!!...

@yatusabesquien Actually, the instrument isn't Peruvian at all. It's African. It was designed by African slaves in Peru. The only thing that would make it remotely Peruvian is the fact that the slaves made it there.
@KrAuZeR94 I'll say it again. It was made by African slaves in Peru. The only thing that would make it remotely Peruvian is the fact that the slaves made it there. Not sons of Africans born in Peru. (Even if that were the case, the sons would still be African, therefore the instrument would still be African.)
@KrAuZeR94 Slaves simply used boxes as musical instruments to combat contemporary Spanish colonial bans on music in predominantly African areas. In this way, Cajons could easily be disguised as seats or stools, thus avoiding identification as musical instruments. Need more?
@pacun1 Apparently you haven't read my other comments. To quote myself: "Slaves simply used boxes as musical instruments to combat contemporary Spanish colonial bans on music in predominantly African areas. In this way, Cajons could easily be disguised as seats or stools, thus avoiding identification as musical instruments. Need more?" African slaves. In Peru. AFRICAN SLAVES. IN PERU. AFRICAN. Done.
@AcousticNic You have to be kidding, the "only" thing that makes it peruvian is the fact that was first designed and made in Peru by peruvian african/zambo/mulato slaves?
@keiv2004 This is getting old. I don't know where you're from, but let's say you're from Africa. I bring you over to Peru as a slave, to do my bidding. Would you consider yourself a Peruvian African? Or an African? My guess is you wouldn't want any association with Peru. This instrument was brought to Peru from Africa. It was made by Africans. Not Peruvians. Therefore it is an African instrument. Read the rest of my comments before you make an ignorant statement. Thanks.
@AcousticNic I'm sorry, but to me, people born in Peru and who lived in Peru their whole lives are peruvian. The cajon originated in african instruments, just as cumbia or merengue originated in african music, but I dare anyone say cumbia is an african dance. They are the product of a mix of people, cultures and experiences that occured in Peru and not in Africa.
@AcousticNic The name alone is a dead give away that you're mistaken. "Cajon" is an derivation of the Spanish word "caja". There is no doubt that it is the product of the evolution of the whole African tradition, but this instrument is distinctly Peruvian. The foundation of an instrument doesn't negate the place of origin. The cajon is no more african than gospel or blues it's just much less removed from the original tradition.
@dmurray716 Are you serious? I was conceived in North America. In the state of Georgia. So I'm from Georgia, North America. Yes, you dumbass. Where you're conceived is where you're from.
@dmurray716 I'm sorry, but I can't understand your broken English. Maybe you could re-write your comment using punctuation and proper grammar? Thanks.
@AcousticNic What African music have you ever heard a cajon played in? Just because it's thought to be made by African slaves in Peru doesn't make it an African instrument. It's used in Cuban and Peruvian music. That's like saying cotton is an African crop. And I don't mean that in a racial way at all, but that's how it compares historically.
@AcousticNic Actually, percussion started in Africa. Who are we kidding? They are the best on rhythm
plus, yes, u right, the african slaves made it here, and I bet those slaves, after the abolition of slavery, felt more peruvian than ever.
Or do u go around saying "it's a african instrument". I bet they would even feel discriminated because of considering them as a country instead of a continent if you say so...
the cajon is pervuian, and it's a cultural heritage of our nation since 2001
@AcousticNic Yes! and I also I bet the guy who created the concept of the Drumkit didn't have any nativa american roots, therefore, the drumkit is not an american creation...
@AcousticNic Actually the white house isn't american at all. It's African. it was build by African slaves. the only thing making it american is that it's build in america.
I just bought the same cajon based on how great yours sounded. Unfortunatley mine does not sound near as good. The bass is good but I don't care much for the snare sound. Was that one tweaked or adjusted somehow. Or was it just the mics that made it sound so good.
This is my first cajon so I don't know much about them. Thanks.
you gota move your feet up and down or just let it rest in the lower part of your cajon to get a god soun, it depends too if your cajon its peruano or español
Cajon with strings or spirals? What is the difference between them and is any of them better than the other? :)

How portable are these instruments? Are they heavy? Is it something you can easily carry to the beach or a park on a summer day?
How loud are they relative to an acoustic guitar and voice without microphones?

@yatusabesquien Thank You Peru!

@yatusabesquien Actually, the instrument isn't Peruvian at all. It's African. It was designed by African slaves in Peru. The only thing that would make it remotely Peruvian is the fact that the slaves made it there.
AcousticNic 10 months ago 23
@AcousticNic hahaha it was made by afroperuvians not AFRICANS sons on africans born in peru so ..... yeah its 100% PERUVIAN
KrAuZeR94 10 months ago
@KrAuZeR94 I'll say it again. It was made by African slaves in Peru. The only thing that would make it remotely Peruvian is the fact that the slaves made it there. Not sons of Africans born in Peru. (Even if that were the case, the sons would still be African, therefore the instrument would still be African.)
AcousticNic 9 months ago
@KrAuZeR94 Slaves simply used boxes as musical instruments to combat contemporary Spanish colonial bans on music in predominantly African areas. In this way, Cajons could easily be disguised as seats or stools, thus avoiding identification as musical instruments. Need more?
AcousticNic 9 months ago
@AcousticNic I already knew that ... I'M PERUVIAN !
THEY USED AS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM BEACUSE IN THAT TIME THE CHURCH FORBID ANY KIND OF INSTRUMENT , THEY THOUGHT IT WAS SOMEHOW RELATED WITH THE DEVIL

IN PERU. AFRICAN. Done.

@AcousticNic You have to be kidding, the "only" thing that makes it peruvian is the fact that was first designed and made in Peru by peruvian african/zambo/mulato slaves?
keiv2004 9 months ago

They are the product of a mix of people, cultures and experiences that occured in Peru and not in Africa.
keiv2004 9 months ago 2
@AcousticNic The name alone is a dead give away that you're mistaken. "Cajon" is an derivation of the Spanish word "caja". There is no doubt that it is the product of the evolution of the whole African tradition, but this instrument is distinctly Peruvian. The foundation of an instrument doesn't negate the place of origin. The cajon is no more african than gospel or blues it's just much less removed from the original tradition.

@AcousticNic so your saying wherever people are conceived that's where there from?
dmurray716 9 months ago
@dmurray716 Are you serious? I was conceived in North America. In the state of Georgia. So I'm from Georgia, North America. Yes, you dumbass. Where you're conceived is where you're from.

@AcousticNic i am sorry i wasnt the genius that said since the Cajon Box was made in Peru its african!

And I don't mean that in a racial way at all, but that's how it compares historically.
www1andonlycom 7 months ago 3
@AcousticNic Actually, percussion started in Africa. Who are we kidding? They are the best on rhythm
plus, yes, u right, the african slaves made it here, and I bet those slaves, after the abolition of slavery, felt more peruvian than ever.
Or do u go around saying "it's a african instrument". I bet they would even feel discriminated because of considering them as a country instead of a continent if you say so...
the cajon is pervuian, and it's a cultural heritage of our nation since 2001
DJTrancenergy 6 months ago 3
@AcousticNic we in peru consider those africans as peruvians
TheOrgulloblanco 5 months ago
@AcousticNic They were not africans, they where known as "afroperuanos" ...
carlos200510758 5 months ago
@AcousticNic Yes! and I also I bet the guy who created the concept of the Drumkit didn't have any nativa american roots, therefore, the drumkit is not an american creation...
¿?
DJTrancenergy 4 months ago
@AcousticNic yeah that logic doesn't work. every "american" innovation or invention was done by immigrants.
uhohstopp 4 months ago
@AcousticNic False! It was made by afroperuvian slaves in Peru. It's in Peru where the cajon music stars.

@AcousticNic Actually the white house isn't american at all. It's African. it was build by African slaves. the only thing making it american is that it's build in america.

@mulfu When did he say, that it was American?
Nick374a 2 months ago
@Nick374a he didn't. he was just applying acousticnic's logic to the white house

Great playing David !
Thanks.
paulmaren 2 years ago
you gota move your feet up and down or just let it rest in the lower part of your cajon to get a god soun, it depends too if your cajon its peruano or español
squarepantsrommy 2 years ago
just tweak the snare until you find the sound you like :) my one it very tight snare (as you can hear in my vids) but it's all personal preference
