Hey ol heads! I love yall and the game yall have given to my generation (1983)....but there was a lyrical clash of the titans on this record sample. Jay-Z Big Smalls nigga shit yo draws!
Not only did they have the best album cover art, along with Bootsy, the Ohio Players define funk AND musicianship. They're just as bad today as they were in the 70s
I love the OHIO PLAYERS real music and real musician and I got it all on vinyl drink some gin and juice or pop a few cans of beer sit or lay back and enjoy. Thank GOD for the vinyl and you tube I love looking at the concerts it takes me back to yester years when thing was funky and everyone was pretty happy.
Let me tell ya! This song is the sound track of my teenage life. I still have this 45 record of t his song and "Walts First Trip" from back in the day. My friends and myself, we partied off this song. Yes, even then a little smoke helped us enjoy the records even more. We were 16 and 17 then but we had fun. No killing and acting stpid like today. All we wanted was FOOD! Ha, ha, ha.....when I hear these songs I just go back to the days of fun. LOVE IT!
The essence of funk. Possibly the greatest funk tune of all-time. Heck, we used to make DJ mix that one so that it lasted about 9 or 10 minutes. LOL. This and "Funky Worm" always turned the party out.
Thank God for our History. Lets start with James Brown and then Sly and the family Stone who all gave Birth to Funk and it stank so good
The Ohio Players, Mandrill, WAR, Tower Power,Earth Wind and Fire, The Average Whit Band,Con funk Shun, Pleasure, Cameo,The Dazz Band, The Bar Kays,Brick
I give this jam a 9. It would of gotten a 10 if it was 3 minutes longer. This shit is too funky to be so short!! I have to rewind it at least three times to get my funk fix.
This Shit!! Is So Hot It Don't Make No Damn Sense This Is Pure Soul Funk At It's Finest!! They Can't Do It Like This No More. Bigge & Jay-Z Should Be Ashamed For Sampling And Disrespecting This Classic Jam!! Thanks To Red Alert For Rocking It Or I would Have Never Had The Privilege Of Hearing This Classic Cut!!
All gangsters to the floor!! True funk classic...hard ass gangbangers boppin'(steppin') together...afros swaying....butter laid...we was serious!!! Chicago south side up in here!!!
@Nina513 Yes you right I hear the music the instruments this is truly real funk not like the stuff they have now and the music now is not music it's bland about bad things some of it is.

I remember hearing this on the radio when I was very young and I swear back then all the groups/bands at this time made funky cuts .HOW THE FUCK THEY THINK OF SHIT THAT THIS. This band , MANDRILL,KOOL AND THE GANG,WAR began to push us into another DIMENSION. THIS cut was different then and it still is.
So DEEPLY Funky! Check out the progression of the instrumentals from the beginning to the end, adding in more and more and more. With JUNIE on the keys, organ, moogs, and more; plus that sweet simple bass-line, and the incredible wah-wah guitar riff... This Joint is SICK!!!!!!!!!
Lord! I find it so hard at times that "WE" can't just sit & enjoy the geniuses of the music & the times...forget I will not debate with you or pscyho analyze many of your thoughts, but "true funk" was the truth!!! Every aspect of the instrumentation to the slightly "go to church" vocals that makes this cut so so dominant & classic,,, then u have go way back & remember what you were in to back in '72. I was watching my older brother gettin ready to go out & I wanted to be just like him..I'm 11
