  • what is joi-gin then?

  • 笑9屎hahaha!!!!

  • I hate this video's chinese because they all sound like the people who speaks the chinese are from MAIN LAND CHINA but not Hong Kong or...whatever....For me myself dont speak like that, and I HATE how the "china people" pronounce CANTONESE

  • dimana bisa belajar cantonese di jakarta? tolong jawab

  • Can someone explain to me what the 'ne' at the end does?? Thanks!

  • @XiaoXiong96 nothing...its like...hm and ....its just a kinda of expression,it does nothing! But it is needed when you are asking questions or being excited!

  • Cantonese sounds intelligent than Mandarine.

  • @1NAMARAMAN1 yes I agree, its harder to learn but Im lucky Its my mother touge(Im sorry maybe I spelled the tougue in the wrong way ;D)

  • I have this book! Just recently! cool! :D thanks for this!

  • "Sin sang" sounds like as same as the sound Roman letters have. But, I'm wondering if Cantonese has the sound of "Shin", or not.

  • @rockin198 The romanization in the video is the yale romanization, without the tone markers. In my opinion it's the easiest to read and understand when it contains the complete tone markers. I've never been a fan of the numbers by the romanization to indicate tone, but that's my personal opinion. :)

  • This is funny i dont like the way they romanize it

  • as the dialogue was going on I was laughing because it was so weird. there's a random guy there so she asks if he's American, and he tries to sell her a car. interesting story

  • seriously cantonese never talks like that-not that formal and not with that weird accent!

  • I don't like the way Cantonese is being romanized. It should be like, Zhou-sun, Wong sing sang..

  • @Cleric775

    That makes things confusing though.

  • That is a little to proper lol I'm cantonese and I never heard anyone talk like that o.O

  • @rockoncarly because the accents are from out HOLY MAIN LAND CHINA peopls's....the people who are talking in the video are from china but not hong kong or whatever :D

  • this is rubbish.. no one in hong kong speak like this

  • @yukit91 What do you mean "no one in Hong Kong speaks like this"? How do they speak?

  • @AAMLfan firstly, this is way too formal....

and for the last part..the conversation doesnt make sense at all

why does the girl in the clip says goodbye right after she says she wants japanese cars?

    its just weird...

  • @yukit91 because the people are from china....thats why its weird and crappy

  • As a Mandarin speaker I can understand about 1/3 of the first dialogue. Some is total gibberish to a Mandarin speaker (like last two lines of the first dialogue), but things like "nei hou ma" and "nei tai tai ne" are readily intelligible.

  • Is anybody else confused by the use of "neih" for you as opposed to "leih"?

I always grew up pronouncing you as "leih" and "and you" as "leih le?"

I know people who learn Hong Kong's version of cantonese omits the "ng" sound in "ngow yook" or "ngo" for me. So i understand there are regional differences... anybody else notice this or have any input?

  • @skibxskatic This is not exactly a regional difference. "nei" and "ne" has always been spelled with the letter N, and never with an L like "lei" and "le". They have a term for this mis-pronunciation and it's called "lazy pronunciation (懶音)" in Cantonese. It's not really clear how N initials become L in Cantonese, but some believe it's due to influence from other regionalects such as Hokkien.

  • @TaiGekTou Its not!Its literally not 懶音,someone pronounce that when they are asking a question!Even when you are writing a passage,u used that, right?

  • @TwiCaCaX No, I always use "ne", and never used "le". I don't know what happened, but "le" is a mis-pronunciation.

  • @TaiGekTou IDK I dont have these kind of mistakes while talking...But yah I agree, nowadays hong kong people just keep using these "ne" and "le"...its kinda annoying though

  • I think Cantonese r very easy to speaks

  • @daoquynh29 yah...thats greatm,where r u from?You got the grammar wrong :D

  • @TwiCaCaX i'm from vietnam. haha yeeh now that i looked at it, it sound weird .

  • @daoquynh29 lol yah :D

  • actually I don't understand with the phrase "teach yourself ...(insert skills here)... " because I don't know the skills on the first place, how could I teach it to myself

  • hahaha. that was funny.

    and it was helpful.

  • haha I wanted to see if they had anything canto on youtube haha since Im a pretty well canto speaker since im always around it this convo sounded akward how they said everything lmao

  • Hanggungmal? I tried to use teach yourself Korean. No use geh. I have forgotten every vocabulary item in the book.

  • I used Teach Yourself Korean before, and it was horrible for beginners. This unreliable book is the only exception of the Teach Yourself series that is not very useful. For Korean, try Living Language Korean instead; it's WAY better.

  • I have the book to this too ^-^

  • it's not good. The lady spoke not exact pronunciation. For example "Gwok", it is called "Lazy Voice".

  • 조은 아임 입니다!

  • Hay hay, chinese not Korean mate. I cant read that, actually I cant read. Hahaha

  • @Evilenlil Lol who cares. If you go in depth with the Korean language, there are actually a lot of similarities between the two.

    Btw, I'm Chinese!

  • omg thank you so much for uploading these! i'm chinese and my parents speak cantonese. i can completely understand it but have problems speaking it. i really appreciate this a lot!!! THANK YOU!!!! is there any way for me to memorize/learn how to be confident in forming sentences? i know words. i dont know how to put sentences together...

  • Lol, odd dialogue.

  • omg i have the book for this! but i lost the audio set D: its by hugh baker and ho pui-kei, right?

  • Me too!! I just glanced at it and I was like "omg. THIS is the first lesson??" Lol.

  • i love you thankyou

  • this is very helpful 4 oral cantonese.

but you guys should know the spelling is not acceptable for writing.

  • @myth206 yeah its not, they don't have the tones wirtten above or even the numbers (1-6/7) beside it. So, it makes it somewhat harder to really learn the language correctly.

But it is right from the book, which is an excellent investment with a dictionary.

  • WOW! This is AWESOME! ^O^ Its so helpful, first slow then at normal speed. ^___^

  • well done, man. It's been very useful. waiting for more eagerly. Thank you so much!

  • THE NEXT FEW CHAPTERS WILL BE UPLOADED WITHIN THIS OR NEXT MONTH. Meanwhile PLEASE BUY THE BOOK/AUDIO SET YOURSELF FROM A BOOKSTORE. It's worth it, as you have seen in these videos. Since I have a national exam this year, I won't be so free to upload all of them. But by chapter 6 if you bought the book without the audio you will be able to read the Cantonese romanisation without the audio. So I'll just upload till chapter 6 just for the promotion of the book.

  • DUDE i am so eager to learn cantonese and have benefited a lot from these 3 vids you uploaded. PLease upload more....

    all the best

    kyle
