Love this song Tony - your voice and the version haunts me in such a positive manner and reminds me of the old ambulance that ye had and the night coming from Omeath to Newry when we were all searched and intimidated by the UDR - ye went on stage very late at the Town Hall to a huge crowd and I joined ye on stage to assist Kathleen with "Kerry" which I had taught her that day.
What a beautiful song. It's as sweet a lullabye as I've ever heard. I love the Irish music and I like your voice very much. It has a lilt to it that is seldom heard. Both my parents were Irish and we've had some real great music and dancing in our past years with family and friends getting together. Thank you for posting. - Paula
This is the definitive version of this song for so many people - it moves the soul and inspires. It's a measure of the Flying Column's artistry that a whole new generation (young people from at least their teens to their 20s) are discovering these songs, and with them part of their identity, and loving it! Thanks Tony, from all of Ireland.
Hi Tony, we learned this song at school, as I live in the north this song has special memories. You truly have a sweet melodic voice, and have surprised many of flying columbs' fans.
Oh my goodness Tony, I had no idea you sang you never mentioned it, what an absolutely beautiful voice you have! And modest as well you always said how good your friends were...Youve made me cry, Ill say it again, Irish music speaks to people in any culture in any time period, if you have any heart at all this will move you. Thanks again Ireland1 for posting this you are doing a great service.
Thanks so much Mark for your kind comments. My memmories of Kathleen(RIP), Eamonn(RIP), are still so vivid to this day. (Not forgetting Benny and Paul!) We can thank Ireland1 for all the renewed interest in our music. Kathleen and Eamonn's daughters must be so proud of their mum and dad today. Thanks again, keep in touch, Adh mor, Tony.
I'm now singing this song to my wee fella when he's about to fall asleep and can't believe it's been 37 years since my father recorded it with the Column. Still can't play the guitar as well as my Da though, LOL.
Wonderful version, grew up listening to this song. Was my brother's favourite on the Flying Column. Most of us around the 30's & 40's age group have the Flying Column in out heads FOR EVER.
Hi, thanks so much for your comment. It's hard to believe that I recorded it 37years ago!! It's nice to know that we are still remembered and that a new generation is listening to our songs after all these years. Best wishes to you and thanks again to Ireland1. Adh mor, Tony (The Flying Column)
Thanks again to Ireland1 for putting my version of Castle of Dromore on your site, my son in Australia will be chuffed to hear his da singing it on You Tube. Tony (The Flying Column)
