Its been awhile since I've last seen one your videos, as i've been away from the community. You are just as great as I remember you, John. And your videos are too. :D
Weatherhill1 is simply wonderful - I have just stumbled across this video as I watching another of his succinct pieces of art. I just love the way he manages to write splendid short songs that just leave you lusting for the next installment (his new video is over 3 minutes long O_O)
Great work - James deserves all the credit you have offered him!
That CharleneKarras video had a LOT of fine texture. The art direction was very subtle, and the near absence of sound beckons one to imagine, as an exercise, what the message is! We find it in our hearts if we look longingly, and the natural framing of the face with the arm is a tour-de-force of photographic composition!!! What do you know, John? It's just an opinion...
You may be on to something there Phekwig, this could be a new sort of concept art that has somehow escaped my understanding. Andy Warhol was misunderstood too ;)
John, your jacket confounds me. Is it plaid and paisley? Whyyyyyyy?
Anywhooo, you know I have been around YT in various incarnations. I have never had tolerance for the short attention spanners, and that's why I have maybe 80 subscribers total! But, I do what I do because I derive pleasure from it. I please only myself.
I've never blogged or vlogged, but having thought about what you've said in this, I'm considering doing it just to tell alot of ignorant/annoying/pointless users exactly how I feel about them. Comments just can' get feelings across as strongly as a human face contorting with rage or softening with happiness.
I always urge everyone I know in my personal life to get involved in vlogging. Expression is a wonderful thing. No one alive today could have imagined anything like the video social networking community here on YouTube. Facial expressions can really slice through a point. Great comment.
Lisa, WeatherHill1 not only composes but also creates music videos. That one specific music video/song that I featured, is about ChristopherMast, thus his face appears on the video. It's a spoof song from WeatherHill1. You won't be disappointed with the channel because sometimes we have similar tastes in music :) I'm pleased to see you back!
I'm late, but I made it to the party! ;) But I have to admit. I have a very short attention span. But that's nothing new. I've always been this way. Can I claim to have ADD? =P
You're right! The more I think about it, when I watch a video from someone that I like, time really doesn't matter to me. It's like watching a movie, or someone telling a cool story. You're the best :) Oh and leave my Russian water bottle alone hehe.
Personally, I don't care how long a video lasts, just as long as it holds my attention regardless of the genre. I love watching Snarkdetriomphe's videos for instance, and they always last around the 10 minute mark. Her comment section is a hoot too.
Great point. Sometimes, the comment section is where the party really is. When a video explodes with people feeling comfortable commenting back and forth and having fun, then one knows the video hit the spot. Friendships evolve and a good time is had just in text. I'll check out Snarkdetriomphe!
Great vid John. And hey you always get over 30 comments, LOL. I definately make shorter vids than I used to. I still crank out an occasional long one though. Some videos just take longer to play out. Good ideas are scarce so if I come up with what I feel is a good idea but it takes 10 minutes to play out I'll go ahead and post it. Still, my vids are only about half as long on average as they used to be.
Thanks Blink :) My vid length is getting shorter also. For me it takes so much willpower to cut out what I feel might be the best bits in the interest of keeping it short. I'd dislike segmenting videos into Part 1,2, etc. Gaging attention spans, I'm trying to learn the fact that people won't really miss what I cut out at all, as long as I am concise. But man I love to rant for hours, although that will cost me dearly in viewers, which are the most rewarding part for me.
I love NutCheese, but I don't obey her rules. John, you're still making videos that are fun to watch. Who cares how long they are? The question is are they interesting. I'm off to subscribe to Weatherhill1.
I was concerned NutCheese had a point, that was spreading like wildfire on YouTube. Reading Nalts' book made me worry about current attention spans as well. Yet I can say after your words that few motivate me more than you do Phil. I mentioned you in this video as an example of a voice of reason, simultaneously entertaining and educational. You can't imagine how much influence you have amongst us and how much we've learned from your videos. A perfect example that time indeed doesn't matter.
Another great video! Nalts has time to make so many videos because he ignores his family obligations, that's pretty clear. NutCheese is no expert on making videos so her opinion counts as ZERO in my book. Renetto and Crossland are clowns not "messianic" figures. That's just my opinion but I know many will agree with me = )
Great to see you commenting and feeling better Paul. Nutcheese and I have a great YT relationship that goes way back. I can't at all say that Nalts ignores his family obligations, that's a strong statement to make, he's a marketer by profession. Unless I knew his family I personally couldn't contend that to be true. Renetto and Ian I do not know at all. I do however hope that you got a laugh out of seeing the Photoshop image of Ian, portrayed as many see him on here ;)
Of course, and I don't doubt it is shared by many, as you mentioned. I always did wonder who you think demonstrated expertise in video making here on YouTube. That's a question I've never asked you. However you do promote many, many excellent people. And the expert isn't me, I seem to need music to make my videos work! But you can carry the performance strictly on your own. I always admire those that can do that.
I don't believe there really are any "experts" on YouTube. People have their own styles and they vary from person to person. As far as my comments on Nalts, think about it! The guy has a full time job plus a family and he still manages to churn out almost a video a day. We all know how long it takes to make and edit videos. It doesn't take a genious to figure out that someone is being neglected, and it's not his video making.
Fair enough regarding "experts". I couldn't agree more about variety being the key. Sometimes I think the more varied the videos, the more opportunities to reach more people and entertain more. It all comes down to personal taste, you are right :)
You need to take some ownership in this. Do you forget that you named me in one of the good yter/bad yter videos? If I remember correctly I didn't get picked as bad or good... maybe just the pain in the ass tuber.
Actually you were opined as a Potential PowerTuber. (Still in the archives as one of my proudest videos). But dammit, who would have thought "that" future potential would make us all time our videos ;) You are contagious.

All is well bartolemeo thank you much good friend. I find that Zipster for example, because of his free flowing, fast paced style excels and captivates by simply turning on a webcam. And this I do enjoy so much more.
Yeah, it's a shame that this happened. I think it had alot to do with Lonelygirl15, too. Anyway, it's a large part of the reason why I've stopped making videos as much.
John, John, John...your videos are ALWAYS inspiring. Your videos make me want to go against the norm here on Youtube. You're right...people tend to flock to "popular" Youtubers like sheep...while ignoring the true heart and soul of Youtube. Come to Philly, my friend...I"ll buy ya a beer...lol.
Just insert! And thank you so much for your concern. Fortunately the power outage problems were not an issue for me as I live nowhere near there ... You rock for being part of the "silent majority". I'll never forget your first ever video in which you mentioned me :)
i realized upon re-reading, i made alot of errors on that comment. Im glad you understood it! Thanks for replying as you always do so nicely for your viewers!!
Nalts, you're churning out viral videos like a genius. P.S. Great book you wrote on your site willvlogforfood ... a wonderful read on marketing and tactics. Thanks for being a good sport ;)
Weatherhill1, you've honestly changed the way I wind down in the evenings with music. Where before it was only The Beatles, now it's your music good Sir!
What in the hell are you making judgement with???? What happened to the phone? and most importantly does it really matter how many views or comments you get?
It's an old Soviet Union relic canteen that matches my collection of Russian watches. I'm a big wrist watch fan. In fact, a bigger fan of watches than I am of views really ;)
SSJ: I always dreamed of a proper family, and it would be an honor ... so get ready, for the love of YouTube we need at least 5 more kids for me to get up to 4000 subs ;)
This video didnt come up on my daily video list. Im glad bedlam posted a response or I woulda missed it. ive been away for a while. posted my first video in a month today.
I have at least 5 ideas for videos which I can never find the time to execute! Editing is highly enjoyable to me, however no matter how many times I think it will take an hour, it takes 5. Roll call check, and I bow down to your support :)
hahaha...I can soooooo relate to the hour being 5 (and sometimes more!). My Lunar Eclipse vid took me forever in the editing as I kept getting new idea and new little "tweeks" I needed to do...but you know how that goes...:-)
Time and camera shyness can be other issues for some of my ideas too! I'm hoping that one day neither will be issues! :-)
Thank you ... You're that one silent majority that has stuck with me even through the some of the worst vlogs humankind has ever known. Judging by my absence on YT it feels like this took a quarter century in the making ... I'll stop coughing now after your comment ;) You're a gem :)
Love your editing in this-but you need to do something about that cough!
That picture of Ian cracked me UP! LOL!
Excellent choices of bad and good youtubers-I want to check both out. I've seen wetherhill1 around in comments but I didn't know he made original music. The clip you played does sound very Beatles!
All in all-this is a great video! Samsarajade has opined!
Last count seemed like 12 kids and counting. An Opine from you is as genuine as it gets, Thanks! I DO have nightmares of that IanCrossland holy image ... Usually what cures the cough is to stop talking so much B.S. ;) x
LOL I don't think so, but she's had a very powerful influence on those like me, that consider her a friend, making it a hell of a lot more stressful for me to try and follow her 5 minute video format :)
You always rate with the utmost sincerity and thus I am truly humbled with your 5 stars. Thank you and I'm glad I could promote Weatherhill1, I believe he deserves so much more exposure than I could possibly give him.
Speaking of Beatles music, if you haven't seen the movie "Across the Universe" stick to the top of your wish list. I'm not big on musicals, but this is something quite different from the standard musical format. It should have won best picture, director, and possibly cinematography. I was totally elated and had tears running down my face at the same time... Truth be told the tears are back just thinking about it.
I am huge on The Beatles (particularly their more obscure work) and that's the second time I've heard of that musical and I haven't at all checked it out yet, for the same reason as you: musicals do turn me off. But with a recommendation like that I will not hesitate. Lately they have been doing great things to honor The Fab Four. Even the Lennon song itself (Across the Universe) still moves me immensely. I shall look forward to this, big time.
Great Episode, Buddy!! Weatherhill1 sounds great!! (And I'm pretty picky about any music that came out after 1974--sad, huh). Going to check him out now!
Jimmy, boy do we have the same taste re: 74 ... WeatherHill1's recaptured the best of the past with some rich, unique harmony that makes the sound all his own. Love ya buddy, thanks for being here!

Congratulations on your 25th installment of GYT-BYT John. (Nalts only has 11 kids btw)
Well dammit I'm part of the meager silent majority that will always be here to comment on your fruity labours.
:)

Thank you ... You're that one silent majority that has stuck with me even through the some of the worst vlogs humankind has ever known. Judging by my absence on YT it feels like this took a quarter century in the making ... I'll stop coughing now after your comment ;) You're a gem :)

You are right about the quality issue - I have noticed too that some people try to avoyd speeling mistakes and typing arrors in they're comments!

Oooh, I love it when you get mad!
How many kids does Nalts have? lol!

I find Nalts rather boring these days...
Got Weatherhill1 playing right now, you're right about the texture.

You always rate with the utmost sincerity and thus I am truly humbled with your 5 stars. Thank you and I'm glad I could promote Weatherhill1, I believe he deserves so much more exposure than I could possibly give him.

Thank you, I try to call them like I see them...
