@FSApetheist - Christ didn't rule Europe during the Dark Ages. The Roman Catholic (pagan) Church did. The REAL Christians were hiding out in the mountains from the long arm of Rome and lived simply. During the Dark Ages, it was illegal upon pain of imprisonment, torture or death, to have on your person so much as a single page of Scripture written in your own language. It was called the "Dark Ages" because the Light of Scripture had been squelched, at least until the Enlightenment.

The term Dark ages was used because of a lack of understanding and historical records for that period in time, the more that was learnt the less meaning that term had, That is why historians do not generally talk about Dark ages and if they do then they use it in a neutral sense.
