I've been researching this case since finding out about it recently and it seems painfully clear that the four suspects who were convicted did in fact commit the crime. I have no doubt, though, that the police may have done some shady things to get those convictions but that doesn't mean they didn't do it. It's unfortunate. I think the denials come from a feeling of "oh man it happened so fast and it was mostly the other guys and if I had had time to think..." so they feel entitled to lie.
