JmacNYCT, Thank you for your nice replay to my comment, I have no intention of being rude. My mom was a champion west cost Swing dancer in San Diego in the 40's, and I am the leader of a swing band. About 6 or 7 years ago she started dancing once again and she is taking lessons for a top teacher in S.D. and she will admit the way she is dancing today is not as lively as it was in her past, witch is good for her. I also know about the music, for me it must have a back beat.
This is partner dancing not Swing, It don't mean a thing if it ant got that swing, and this has no swing in the dance or the music. I play in a true Swing band ( and were hiten hard four to the bar) I see great Swing dancers all the time, and this isn't even close.
@allenlewis Sorry to disappoint you but this is West Coast Swing at its finest... a great dance that doesn't depend on just old fashion swing music... the other night I did it to Lord of the Dance from the same soundtrack... boy, that was interesting!
@allenlewis You are correct! However West coast swing was derived from Lindy basics and evolved into an elastic, upright style, that focuses on connection, improvisation, and interpretation of many forms of music to include blues, contemporary, and hip hop. The swing beat may be dissapearing from its present form but the basics of 6/8 count patterns, triple stepping, and basic patterns can clearly be seen. Try incorporating salsa, tango, and hip-hop into Lindy hop and tell me how that goes.
LMAO .. I'm sorry I'm reading all these comments and I had to laugh at the whole annoying camera guy. Anyway .. I LOVEEEEE ITTTTT!! GREAT DANCERS AND GREAT INSTRUCTORS!!
Hey Halley - if you ever do a gig like this - won't you put me on a personal invite?? That means I get at least - one and meaningfully two dances in the evening - certainly a later evening as well as an earlier evening dance...
I agree about the camera man as well.....SHUT UP DUDE! If he's such a big fan he'd have enough respect to keep his mouth shut when filming a performance.
great dancers...but the guy taping their dances...needs to shut up....if i were this couple...I'd tell him to cut it out or get out....HE ruins every tape of them
