  • Warner Music Group, please give this copyright faggotry a rest. You could do so many more productive things with your time than scouring YouTube, and muting out the audio to a video comprised of still images put together in WMM, that was made by some kid who has never played a real RPG before. You are not stopping piracy - you are just wasting your time and everyone elses.

  • @sankunsama why has his this kid never played a real rpg, all the games on here are great rpg games, I think u need to slap yourself three times and then figure out what an rpg game is.

  • @cdubmeyer

I'll give him props for putting the least shittiest Final Fantasy game in No 1.

  • @sankunsama it was Final Fantasy 6 wasn't it...that is known as one of the best 3 final fantasys of all time, any video by anyone will tell you that, IGN, Gamespot, and many others also had 6 as one of the greatest.

  • Chorno Trigger is the Best !!!

  • hey, im not dissing ur vid or anything, but just wanted to say that pokemon and mario arent RPG's, good vid tho :)

  • @steph4691 pokemon and a couple of the mario games are technically rpgs with leveling up and "role-playing"

  • You people! Help us to create a good lightsaber dislike bar!

  • Fallout, Torment, Baldur's Gate, Diablo, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, the rest...

  • By those who played Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Planescape Torment in the late 90's...this list is null and void. Those games were epic like Skyrim...but with much better stories imho. Planescape Torment made me cry brehs. Baldur's Gate was the most satisfying story ever...rags to riches (power)1000x. Fallout, grimly hilarious.

  • Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale, Divine Divinity, Fallout, Planescape Torment, Gothic.

  • In my opinion Legend of Dragoon for the PS1 is the best game ever made but thats just what i think

  • Check out my renditions of Dreamfall & Mass Effect!

  • that was a ironic phrase.......

  • notice that these are old classic rpgs... the good ones... also notice the date... uploaded "August 8, 2008" so skyrim and all these awesome new ones are not out yet...

  • you did not see Skyrim ...

  • @35TheSkin Dumbass [¬_¬]

  • @35TheSkin this was posted in 2008 you jackass.

  • @35TheSkin Look at the date this video was posted...

  • @slitheryjuggler94 was a joke...-.-

  • Fable TLC All the way, baby!

  • @m0therchi3f

    My childhood.

  • half these games are bullshit, and you even put pokemon in it? the hell?

  • coisao podre alguem sabe como faze a quest plane of stomrs do marr?????????????

  • Pokemon. Really?

  • @560pizza Are you dumb? or do you think that a game that sold more coppies then your mom gives out head isn't an acomlishment.

Pokemon is the most wellknown game worldwide, and is an RPG.

  • @leethunter123 So You Are Yelling At Me About Pokemon Facts After i make A small measly comment about it.

Man. You Really have No Life.

  • @560pizza Everyone has their own opinions. I wouldn't have chosen that pokemon game specifically, but they do have a lot of really great ones out there.

  • Um where the fuck is Dragon Age?

  • @jakelilman This video was made in 2008.

Dragon Age didn't start until 2009

  • @WeepingGuitar99

right, and it's not really a good rpg either

  • @sergiuszs Fallout is my favorite.

  • U DESERVE DEAD, BEST RPG IS CHRONO TRIGER GRRR

  • Woah, calm down people. It doesn't matter if you agree with his list, this is a person's opinion. Its okay to disagree but don't need to be so offensive about it.

  • Hells yes, FFVI, one of the best RPGs ever. Balder's Gate 2 is the best traditional RPG, if you wanna be picky, and one of the best RPGs. Its plot wasn't that great though since in traditional RPG and silent protagonists, it just feels like your character has no personality or emotions at all. He's just kinda there.

  • Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim

  • My list:

    1. Gothic 2

    2. Morrowind

    3. Deus Ex(Man I really need to play Revolution)

    4. Baldur's Gate 2

    5. Neverwinter Nights

    6. Daggerfall

    7. Summoner

That's all I can think of.

  • KotOR- Series wasn't really that great. NWN in Star Wars Setting. Earthbound- Never played it. FF IX No. Pokemon- Seriously? Mass Effect- It was ok, not greatest. Diablo II- Definitely don't consider it the 5th Greatest Rpg or even a good rpg. It's a hack and slash. Paper Mario- ..... FF7- Lol. Chrono Trigger- Actually, this is a decent choice. Think God you picked it in a high ranking than FF7. FF VI- It was better than FF7 and 8 at least. Play less FF games and more pc rpgs.
  • Pokemon is not an rpg

  • @GamerTopHat Yes it is, its closer to traditional RPG than most jRPG in many ways. Its plot is almost non-existent but most traditional RGP plot suck anyways. Some focus so little on it, it might as well not be there.

  • @TheGreatCandyman No Pokemon is not a traditional rpg it is a piece of shit (rpg wise) a traditional rpg is actually Table top rpgs like dungeons and dragons. learn your facts.

  • @lillpeter1117 d&d rule over elder scrolls in my opinion

  • @kdg5636 Knights of the Chalice rapes Oblivion at least. I gotta check out Skyrim before I support that statement:).

  • @kdg5636 Well yeah, D&D is like the original RPG. I still much prefer to play Elder Scrolls ove any game series out there, though.

  • I can't say that I agree with the list, but I can say that I respect this list.

  • best RPGs (not in order):Mount & blade(warband too), All fallouts, Baldur's gate 1&2, NWN 1 and Kotor 1&2

  • @clonegreivou It's better than the list the maker of this video put it. Don't understand why KoToR is so great. Maybe if it was more challenging and more complicated c&c it would be a great RPG.

  • @mainkilla It plays more towards storyline and your choices effecting people around you, as I understand. something extremely vital to RPGs

  • @Leri084 Which game are you talking about? If you mean Oblivion, it won't make sense because you just aided in saving the world and you're still as politically powerless as you were as a prisoner. Bethesda games lack true causes and consequences.

  • @mainkilla Ignoring your comment about the one weakness in a game that came out, what was is? 9 years ago? I was talking about KotOR. Saying Bethesda games lack cause and consequence is a generalization and in logic, generalizations rarely ever work. Really there hasn't been a console game which shows true agency, especially not JRPGs and if anything Bethesda games have come closer than any other games I've seen.

  • @Leri084 Oh yea, KotOR. Yea, you're somewhat right on that statement. It's just that their idea of evil is...well, kinda primitive. You can be evil and not spit on a child or some nonsense like that.

  • @Leri084 Oblivion came out in 2005 or 6, and I'll say it's the weakest or one of the weakest of the TES games and I've played all of them except Skyrim.

  • @mainkilla So far Skyrim has been the best I've played with Morrowind very close to it. Star Wars games have consistently failed to show the reality of Light and Dark and I admit it felt a bit too polar for my taste. The problem with Oblivion is that it was testing the boundaries and capabilities of foreign territory, i.e. this generation of consoles.

  • Check out my rendition of Dreamfall & Myst!

  • i've always sorta just hated final fantasy games just couldn't get into them

  • @Leri084

    WHAT?

    final fantasy not rpg?

    you are crazy?

my god, what kind of gamer is you?

  • @PeckSanders The kind that doesn't care for linear storylines with little room to do anything other than what the script tells you to in turn-based combat.

  • some people don't want to accept the fact that the best jrpg is better than the best wrpg.

  • can someone explain to me the difference between cRPGs and jRPGS and why someone prefers one over the other?

  • @cjcookie cRPGs are western, jRPGs are Japanese.

  • well morrowind should have been on this list over 3 different final fantasy games, a list with this many JRPGs is invalid, there should have atleast been ochorina of time of a link to the past.

  • Ok first of all,The Legend of Zelda is Not a RPG to begin with, it's an Action Adventure game,

Secondly those games you mentioned like Final Fantasy (The King of RPG games) & Pokemon are RPGs whether you want to believe it or not, plus they're more popular than Elder Scrolls,Mass effect & Fallout.

  • @93vincentvalentine

I dunno, JRPG's have been declining recently. FF was maybe a king in the 90's, early 2k at best. That was the height of the franchise's popularity. Nowadays, we're hearing about Fallout and Elder Scrolls, and Dragon Age, etc.

  • @93vincentvalentine More popular by...what measure? Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, and Fallout have all won top awards, Final Fantasy is a good series but really out dated. Pokemon has declined sharply in popularity even if people like me who were dedicated to the series still enjoy revisiting our Gold and Red versions. You named three of the biggest game series on the market today and called them less popular? Illogical.

  • @Leri084 Pokemon sharp decline? In the west maybe. I don't like Pokemon but its the best selling franchise of all time. There is some subtle decline but Bla&Whi (most recent of the mothership series) still sold millions and were #1 in both Japan and UK. In fact it sold more than the previous mother-ship title so it might not be declining at all.

Note that this list of "of all time" and in terms of "sales of all time," Pokemon is still king, matched only by its brother franchise Mario.

  • @TheGreatCandyman CoD might be the most popular and talked about game among hardcore gamers but Nintendo games are the most popular and best seller when you count casual gamers. Wii Sports is the best selling game of all time even though hardcore gamers hate it.

  • @TheGreatCandyman Woah woah woah let's set one thing straight. Call of Duty is for people who claim to be gamers and really don't know what they're talking about. Is it fun? Absolutely. In a twitchy, first-to-shoot-wins, arcady kind of way.

  • @TheGreatCandyman Skyrim topped the UK charts within one week of its release. When I was younger I liked Pokemon and a new generation is beginning to like Pokemon, but that's just it. It's rarely ever talked about in the gaming community and not really considered for any awards. Pokemon and Mario have had decades longer than other games to get that title. Skyrim sold half a million more copies than Pokemon Black and White on its first day and Call of Duty 4 times that.

  • Knights Of The Old Republic Was A Great Game I Still Play One And Two.

  • Wow this list is freakin' horrible Real RPGs: Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 2 (Amazing Storyline) Icewind Dale Icewind Dale 2 Neverwinter Nights Planescape Torment (... If you haven't played this you shouldn't play rpg games) Diablo Diablo 2
  • @polanddemon I don't agree with Diablo 2, it was too...mmorpg like. All the rest are good games.

  • I find those games like Diablo,World of Warcraft & Knights of the Old Republic really boring but additive at the same time lol xD But still I prefer JRPGs like Final Fantasy,The Chrono series & Grandia.

  • pokemon rofl :DD

  • Where's Ocarina Of Time?

  • People really need to comprehend an accurate definition of rpg. In rpg you play a role, a customized character who's choices dictate the outcome of events and is not bound by too many rules.

Examples of rpgs: Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, Fallout, Two Worlds (not by far a favorite of mine)

Not rpgs: Legend of Zelda (One of the greatest series of all time, nonetheless), Final Fantasy, Pokemon, Deus Ex

Just because you can choose what items you use and roam the world does not make it an rpg.

  • @Leri084 That definition is wrong. How can you say that final fantasy, legend of zelda and pokemon aren't role playing games?

  • @sephizinho It's an entirely correct definition. The whole point of an RPG game is to do whatever you want in as many ways as possible. Games like FF, Zelda, and Pokemon limit freedome and customization far too much to be considered RPGs. Play Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Mass Effect, then play one of the games I listed as non-RPGs and you will instantly see a vast difference in the core gameplay. They just aren't the same.

  • @Leri084 To me rpg, states for role-playing-game, therefore games where i role play are considered rpgs to me.

  • @sephizinho A role as in a character part of a story line outside of reality? So you mean every game from Grand Theft Auto to Mario and Uncharted are RPGs?

  • @Leri084 Yup, is that bad?

  • @sephizinho Not really bad, just broad. So broad that it includes practically every game short of Tetris and Pong.

  • @Leri084 You're saying FF isnt an RPG... Then what is it .-.?

  • @holyflame96 It's a fantasy adventure. Adventure games are ones in which you explore a finely set storyline devoid of side quests and play the game for the soul sake of going through the storyline experience. In real RPGs, you make your own story.

  • @Leri084 an rpg is anything that constitutes playing a role, legend of zelda is definately and rpg, final fantasy is also even though after the first one they all suck balls

  • @skijy13 But you play a role in pretty much every game in existence. Mario is a role you play in all of his games, Crash Bandicoot is a role you play in his games, so is Spyro, Master Chief, Marcus Phoenix (or however his name is spelled), Soap McTarvish, Pac-Man, and heck even RayMan. But none of those characters are from what are considered RPGs now aren't they? The definition isn't a literal translation.

  • @Leri084

    diamla pukimak

  • @Leri084 Sorry, but Final Fantasy and Deus Ex are most certainly rpgs

  • @Leri084 um you dictate outcomes in deus ex and choose how you play through the game so how in the hell is it not classified as an rpg?

  • @explosionguy23 There's a retraction necessary on my part, I've watched it played since that post and definitely agree that it's an RPG. However I stand EXTREMELY strong in the fact that by definition FF cannot be an rpg and even if it was, it's very poor in freedom.

  • @Leri084 the only thing final fantasy has that might qualify it as a rpg is a level up system beyond that though i agree with on it not being an rpg, personally i find the lack of exploration, combat options, and choice make final fantasy extremely boring to play in my opinion

  • @Leri084 I never had the chance to play the first Deus Ex, but I'm pretty sure Human Revolution is an RPG.

  • @Leri084 dammit I just scrolled down a little bit to see if someone has commented the same thing like me and so much people replied the same thing as me. I just feel like trolling lol... SORRY DUDE! :D

I give you a thumbs down, maybe if you're not on the top comments dumb people like me won't spam you anymore by seeing your comment and you will not receive pointless notifications ... so it's a good thumbs down!! :D

  • @arowerlikenoother I'm not sure whether to laugh or be ticked so... Um... Yeah, hope you had fun with that.

  • @Leri084

No, that is a rather loose definition. Most games have you play a role. Many games let you customize a character. A lot of games have choices that let you dictate the outcome of a game. Saint's Row probably has a lot less rules than, let's say, Baldur's Gate, which is based on AD&D.

  • @Leri084 completely disagree with your not rpg's your taking the role of said character hense role playing rpg doesnt mean decision maker lmao

  • @Leri084 I disagree with your definition partially. By your definition the Saints Row series is a series of role playing games

I would say that RPGs are games that bare a heavy emphasis on story, character development, and make the user feel like they are fulfilling or "Playing" a major "Role" in "Game" that takes place in an emersive setting

JRPGs have just as much claim to the title of "RPG" as D&D based games like Baldur's Gate. In fact FF1 seems to fit your definiation of a RPG pretty well

  • @Leri084 ummmmm.... according to your definition of a RPG Saints Row 3 is a RPG...

I think you're looking at videogames through D&D colored glasses dude... Not to mention that Final Fantasy 1 actually seems to fit your definition of a RPG as well...

I think it is more fair to say that a RPG is a game that has a heavy emphasis on creating an emersive setting, interesting story, and unique characters in order to give the play a memorable and interesting experience.

  • Comment removed

  • @Leri084 Pokemon and Final Fantasy are RPGs. Final Fantasy basically invented the RPG and Pokemon revolutionized handheld RPGs. I really dont know what kind of games you consider them to be if they are not RPGs.

  • @xFIRERUSHx Actually Dungeons and Dragons basically invented the RPG before FF was even conceived more likely and the true inventor of thhe RPG was the war simulator. Alright this conversation has gone long enough for me to really reflect upon what I consider to be an RPG. As 8bitrandomencounter pointed out, I am looking for a much more traditional definition of RPG based on its founder: Dungeons and Dragons (this isn't arguable, D&D IS the first RPG). I'm willing to accept games...

  • @Leri084 Such as Final Fantasy, the legendary Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon as forms of RPG because they are mainly influenced by the storyline and "emersive setting". However to be true to the traditional and original RPG, they need the freedom of decision and your actions need a clear impact on the world around you. If these are things you do in Saints Row, than unfortunately it is an RPG. Just a very very poor one.

  • @xFIRERUSHx Final Fantasy didn't invent the RPG. There were other rpgs other then FF in the 80s.

  • @Leri084 I don't think anyone actually cares what your definition of RPG is, traditionally correct or not. Its just a way to categorize the games so that they can be categorize without unnecessary complications. These games are still closer to traditional RPG than to other genre so yeah, people don't really care.

Also, in these game you still "take the role" of the main character and watch his story unfold. Definitely a sub-category of the RPG genre at the least.

  • @TheGreatCandyman Ah yes but you cared enough to look at what I was saying and reply to it, so you are obviously not "people". I would consider it a sub-category and realize that the games in question are more RPG than they are anything else, but it feels as though they are in limbo between Action/Adventure and RPG. And once again, the true definition of RPG is rooted in games like Dungeons and Dragons, which were all derived from war simulation games.

  • @Leri084 what,no dragon age origins?!

  • @yamiyugalex159357 To be honest I haven't really gotten around to playing it. Not saying I don't like the look of it, I just really haven't found the time to get and play it. Pre-med courses really take a lot out of your time, y'know XD

  • the games have great graphics but low on story telling there's anymore rpg or any kind of games that has balance it i'm so sick off great graphics but less stories

  • #1 fallout

    #2 diablo 2

    #3 oblivion

    #4 fallout NV

#5 crisis core final fantasy VII

    anyone agree ?

  • @MegaGky I I'd agree with Oblivion and Fallout NV but they're nowhere near my Top 5. Diablo 1 and 2 were awesome, but Diablo 3 will be even better.

  • @MegaGky I hated Oblivion and thought Diablo 2 was boring and devoid of a good atmosphere compared to D1. The rest I can't comment on as I haven't played them yet.

  • oblivion?

  • @THEcodSHADY fuck yeah oblivion is one the most awesome rpg ever made

  • a top of rpg without gothic1/2 in first 3 is crap:) ho dont ever played the game isnt a rpg gamer

  • Diablo II is the best rpg ever. Fuck "The Witcher", "Dragon Age" and all that bullshit. SPRITES FTW

  • Haha Pokemon.... MASS EFFECT .. OMG WHAT?

  • @Fenosens Pokémon is overlooked as one of the greatest RPG's there has ever been.

  • glad Mass Effect made it. Such an underappreciated game.

  • @RezCypher not really, every rpg fan likes mass effect

  • @brainjuice654 They like Mass Effect or it's sequel? I think alot of people forgot just how groundbreaking the original was. Regardless, I'm glad this made the list while competing with JRPG's.

  • Lol @ The kids saying these aren't rpgs.

  • OBLIVION is the best RPG ever!!! You have no taste in games. Most of these are not RPGs!

  • @clummann

You mean the game with like, only ten types of enemies, all of which level with your character, and the "you've seen one, you've seen them all" Planes of Oblivion?

I mean, I liked the game as well, but it's hardly the be all and end all some people claim.

  • @dunnono00 nah oblivions ok...that was my friend on my account, but still, these arent RPGs

  • @clummann

sorry Gothic 1 is the best RPG ever

  • @TimtendoentAtainment IMA LET YOU FINISH, but Skyrim is gonna be the best RPG of all time!

  • Nights of the old republic was one of the best games i have ever played

  • Diablo 2 fuck yeah!

  • Old rpgs>New rpgs

  • Final Fantasy VI (3) as the best in the list is a total WIN! :]

  • 22 guys are 13 year old idiots that preffer FPS in front of RPG(Im 11 years old and i LUV DIablo II-Lord of Destruction)

  • @tomasinodrown That doesn't make you anymore different than th rest, actually.

  • yeah but we're past that now. it's like having a car and saying, "oh no, i want to walk to work! Back then, walking was the way!" -.-

  • @hellvilla

That's a bit extreme, don't you think? I would say it's more like driving an older car rather than the newer ones, and you know there are a lot of vintage car lovers around.

  • whats that shit, a crappy slideshow?

  • why the heck are there so many dislikes?! these are all great games people...

  • @slitheryjuggler94 Because Graphic-Whoring 13 year olds thought that the newer games should be at the top.

  • @TheLegendofnoah Bullshit, this list is kinda accurate, apart from the Paper Mario

  • paper mario is teh shit :)

  • Isnt Diablo 2 a MMORPG

  • Diablo 2 is in this list. You dont now what a RPG ist. Fail!

  • Look at my name.

    Google it.

    Play it.

    Nuff said.

  • 1. Final Fantasy VII 2. Chrono Trigger 3. Earthbound 4. Elder Scrolls Oblivion 5. Pokemon Red and Blue 6. Grandia 7. Wild Arms 2 8. The Legend Of Dragoon 9. Fallout 3 10. Elder Scrolls Morrowind Elder Scrolls Skyrim will probably replace Oblivion once it comes out. These are by the way in my opinion the greatest of all time. If it were my favorites Oblivion number one then Final Fantasy 7. Crisis Core would be 11 lol
  • This list is actually pretty good, You picked PC games, older games, newer games.

  • Earthbound should be at number one instead of nine. Anyone who reads this should emulate that game and experience it. Its the best game EVER

  • Damn youtube of copyrighting XD

  • YOU'RE KIDDING , NO???

  • final fantasy is for kids now play fallout way better. and pokemon dont even say that name close to me i hate it.

  • Glad that Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI made it to the top 3. Horary for Earthbound too.

  • i dont get why everyone loves final fantasy. i think old text based RPGs and games like castle of the wind with crappy graphics are great. but thats just me. newer games are great but the classics are better.

  • everyone Loves Final Fanasy 7

  • What? No Baldur's Gate for PC?

  • my # 1 is the same ff3 was just too awesome.
