  • I think it is quite possible that he achieved this in two years. It was impressive, but almost a direct mimic of horrowitz recordings. Developing your own style takes time no matter how much you practice... Also, there were loads of noticeable mistakes in the performance. I believe that this was after two years of playing, otherwise, this quality of performance wouldn't have made it to television... No disrespect, the dude is fantastic, but he still needs work.

  • I think the quality of recording is highly crucial, in order for the youtube audience to be able to make a sound judgement.

  • I meant "Eastern". :P

  • anyone can play this etude after 2 years, you just have to push yourself. but making it sound good, making the piece yours, nearly no one can truly do that. i think this is just a result of pushing too hard hence the "practicing 8 hours a day"

  • Who was his teacher and how was the method used to prepare him?

  • well congrats.. but I am the pianist. I play piano for almost 15 years. And although it's technically almost mastered, on the musical side of this interpretation - it's not big deal at all.

  • eight hours a day in the period of 15-17 years old?Didnt he need to go to school and take part in the National Matriculation Test to apply for university?

  • You my friend, are a liar. He studies for 8 hours. Bull fucking shit. hes 15 when he started, and he had to go to high school which ussaly lasts 6 hours a day. So your saying, that if he comes home at 4 o clock every day, hell play for 8 hours until midnight, without eating, studying, homework, or other personal stuff. If your going to bullshit, atleast make it believable

  • @Martel211996 Have you ever heard about homeschool? Some people actually focus more on piano than their studies. Anyway, stop hating and enjoy what is being well performed. "bull fucking shit," "ussaly," "bull shit," "hes," hell," and "atleast" gives me a glimpse of what kind of person you are. "You[,] my friend[,] are" an lousy internet nomad, useless as anything.

  • you played for two years right? well i believe you, keep practicing hard you have something special , ! :)

  • you played for two years right? well i believe you, keep practicing hard , ! :)

  • WOOH CHINESE PEOPLE :D!

  • this guy IS a genius!

  • This is quite impressive!!

IMO his playing is somewhat almost the same as Horowitz and I wouldn't say he's better than Lola A

  • Where do you get the sheet music for this? I really, really want it.

    It's such a beautiful song.

  • Good job! this is better then many other versions on YT, better than Lola A :-)

  • Pretty intense! Not bad at all, actually.

  • very bad interpretation :(

  • robot

  • good job, though too rushed, but too imitative of horowitz in '68. :)

  • well, what can you expect from an asian player?

  • wait, does the description really mean he played the piano for only two years before playing this??

  • and please do not try to copy horowitz........

  • What would you say is wrong with trying to play the piece following the ideas of what is probably one of the finest interpretations, he is clearly no horowitz, but i prefer this performance than yours!

  • well,

Skrjiabin is much much much finer than this piano-player does...!

I am sorry, but you should listen your sould first, than play it!

  • wasn't bad, besides the wrong notes here and there. the interpretation was just uninspiring and if he played it slower, the wrong notes might not have been there and possibly a better interpretation

  • so many wrong notes! SLOW DOWN.

  • I dont believe for one second that this guy had only been playing for two years when performing this. That's some bullshit. Eveyrthing from the way this guys postures himself at the piano, his showmanship on down to his technique denotes some who has been studying for sometime. Sure there are geniniuses in this world but I doubt that his is one of the,. Please.....

  • @hervinbalfour

he probably studied this perticular piece for two years in college

  • @Hervinbalfour hey, I have been playing piano for close to 2 years now, but im 14, and I play this etude. Its not perfect, but id love to have your opinion on it. Thanks,

    Best,

    Richard

  • @Hervinbalfour He is oriental. Orientals are fast in learning, are disciplinated enough to devolope theirselves!

(I'm not an oriental neither descendent of one).

  • @leomulder

    oriental?

    Asian he is.

    Djingiskhan on the piano....impressiv

  • Piano sounds good and mellow for a bosendorfer. Natural musician clearly. Time will tell us how good he can be!

  • He can play so fast!!

    Just that's it.

  • keep going !!

  • 他對史克里亞賓的詮釋很獨到

    雖有不少錯音

    但音樂的深度廣度

    絕對是極為優異的

    幹的好!!!

  • 先生 你彈得很好喔 多加油 希望你更上一層樓

  • lol the recording is awkward, sometimes i cant hear the melody...its pretty good, but either the quality is bad or he's just missing a few things

  • did he play any instruments before the piano?

  • never

  • @pianjerry omg

  • this is a really good performance. although i doubt hes only had 2 years experience, thats not the matter here. i dont care how long he has played, only how well he has played this piece. he could have played for 100 years and if he played this same exact way, id be congratulating him this exact same way. good performance.

  • bull shit.

  • Theres reasons behind this.

a teacher cannot teach you how to play when it comes down to the very deepest level of playing, he can only tell you how, and if you listen, and it's a great teacher, you will be up there just behind the greats in no time.

getting good at piano is NOT a matter of practice, because it's really easy to practice wrong and get worse!

  • 我一到快速强劲的东西我总表现不出来,我都快疯了,很羡慕男生这种先天优势~~~~·

  • 这不是先天优势,你也可以的。

  • Good Job!

I think you sort of have the good technique, but your playing could have been a lot more expressive if you didn't rush that much. Finishing in two minutes is really a fast tempo. Remember that an Etude also deserves to be MUSICAL. I played this piece, but in a completely different style. I have questions about your rhythm at 1:02 and 1:06, may be 56 too...

btw, I used to study with Mr. Teng a few years ago and now im in the US. It's my first piece after a 4-year gap...

  • Yes, at those time's you mentioned, I noticed the same thing.

Still, a good performance. I think it's believable that he's only played for two years. I've played seriously for less than that and can play this piece as well

  • I have just started learning the piano last year; and I too, am beginning to learn this piece. However, having learned it only a few days ago I could only play the notes and have not yet reached the performance level. Hopefully next week I can be at that level.

  • Some people need to get on step by step with the teachers, listen every step

While true musicians bring the ideas of techers to the next levels.

Those are the ones that differentiate themselves from the norms, Bangity, Good luck man, I hope to see you play

  • Man.. There are too many geniuses in this website. I'm not talking about the guy in this video, I'm talking about people responding to this video claiming that they also can play this song after studying piano for less than 2 years. (well, as soon as I learn to play this piece, I can say I study piano for only 2 months. who is going to know how long I have learned to play piano?)

  • What technique?

This seems like a big step for him.

It is not a lie that he studies for 2 years.

But, listen to more mature performers, this is just notes.

  • Actually considering his expression, it's fair, just the texture and dynamics need a little work. I must agree, the right hand is just notes, they sounded uniform to me.

  • the intro show that he's only 17 at the time of performance, so he only begin studying at 15 which is consider a late age for piano, and to achieve that kind of technique in 2 years? i dont think so. please stop lying.

  • Whether you believe or not to believe, the fact is that his studies the piano for two years

  • are you a pianist? any pianist will tell you to acquire that level of technique and musical maturity in a 2 year is unheard of....

  • Yes, I am .

I know him, His is not perfect on this etude, which shells wrong notes, but he was really only playing the piano two years, eight hours a day practicing hard.

  • I just don't believe that fact that he has only played the piano for two years. I know his teachers though; I don't think he would give this piece o someone who has only played for 2 years. I can check it out~sometime~

  • @pianjerry practicing 8 hours a day is just asking for carpal tunnel syndrome and unfixable damage

pianists that practice that much end up losing a great amount of technique and control and overall end up not being able to practice at all

  • Dude, I also studied for 2 years and yes, I am play this, even better. I perform for my Uni's piano ensemble. It's not impossible considering that people with passion can play more than 6 hours a day, repeating the passage over and over again. If you can learn a dance within half an hour, this one just need a little bit more work. Oh, did I tell you i was self-educated?

  • what are you talking about. I couldn't even play a scale probably last year and now i could play this piece although not this fast. It's not the same for everyone. Teachers at the conservatory say that I have progressed 4 times faster than regular students. it's possible.

  • well, most classical pianist start very young, while some talented people (not talking about myself) are deprived of the chance of learning when young, so when they are older, they just worked for it

  • @sottovoce633 ubheard hardly.. not in that age. But impressive yes it is.

  • Inferior piano but he plays like a genius.

  • You are actually calling a Bosendorder Imperial, the "Rolls Royce" of pianos an "inferior piano." LMAO Okay........

  • They're the best! I played one in Vienna. AWESOME!

  • They are wonderful. My next piano purchase (which is soon) is going to be a Bosie 225. You are absolutely right. They are the best!

  • Wow! You lucky dog.

  • LOL! Tell that to my father who is going to help me finance the cost. lol

  • I know why he's so good!

The piano is a Bosendorfer. Amen.

    =P

  • very good , he must have listened to Mr horiwiz's playing

  • Really talented young man. Must be from China.

  • wake up,he hasn´t played only for two years, no one (and i mean anybody) can play like this in only 2 years

  • i concur with larkinmusic021...maybe he has learned in a short period of lets say...4-6 years?..and thats at least....his overall playing and performance is too mature "for 2 years"...though nothing is impossible..it is highly improbable

  • Actually my teacher had only been playing piano for two or so years when he learned this piece and I have just started learning this piece and I have played piano for less than one year. It is completely possible to play this with only two years training.

  • Hello???? he only took two years!!! i think he's Great!

  • wasnt ready.

  • My humble respects to you. Most players never get to overcome the struggle of learning this piece. It takes a lot of maturity emotionally and technically. There is always room to improve and pieces like these are intended for playing a life time. Horowitz played it all the time!!! Good job, young man!

  • LOL "patetico"

  • ROFL HAHAHA just realised how it works in more than one way!!!

  • very nice

  • ...for 2 years' worth, this is amazing.

To those who don't think this is "patetico", you simply were not listening.

  • You are right. Too nervous, no emotion. Too homogeneous, no relevant progress in intensity, and even becomes boring... although this piece is truly breathtaking. Go to Horowitz !

  • Hmmm.... where's the pathos, where's the message, the despair, the hope, the resolution, the tears, the blood???? It's all caffeinne dude, to sterile.

  • I dunno man, but you seem to be bringing the pretentiousness.

  • Youre right! Let's forget about all that... Let me review this clip again: Wow! He plays so cool, he even uses all his 10 fingers... and oh so fast ;-p

  • You are HOUXUAN!!!! Guess me who?

    not bad...

  • que de la verga tocas hijo

  • although you didnt put much expression into the start of the piece i was very impressed with it all

this is a very difficult piece where accuracy is very important, youve done a great job

i tilt my hat to you

  • bad. :(

  • One should play any piece like he were the composer. Not mere memorizing! You study too much. it´s good, but please forget study and play with your heart! you´re good!

  • why is everyone saying "you" or "your performance"?

it doesn't say in the file details that the uploader is the performer...

  • where's the passion? this is all just too cold for my liking. Horowitz is far superior. need more focus on tone color.

  • needs more work...

  • No one does it better than Kissin, a russian playing a russians piece, nothing better than that.

  • top ? i can play octaves too you know ! this study is far from begin as difficult as it seems when he plays it ... musically nog bad but could you maybe try to play the right notes? especially in the lower regions ... thanks

  • good, but far from perfect.

  • interesting interpretation!! I like.

  • I thought they said the devil is in the details. God couldn't improve on this piece.

  • The only performances of this piece I really like are Horowitz's, but I must say I have heard numerous performances which are not half as good as yours. That may sound negative, but what I mean is I think this was quite good. You didn't destroy the repeated chords at the end of this piece like everyone else and that is worth a heck of a lot. Just for that i enjoyed it!

  • God, as they say, is in the DETAILS. You are rushing constantly, ignoring Scriabin's very specific demands of articualtion and dymnamics. Also, you are banging and pounding; you are physically wound up tightly like a spring, and need to find opportunities to relax and improve co-ordination so as to enrich your sound.

  • He's good but something is missing. The music itself doesn't have the good atmosphere, no feelings towards the music and he made too many mistakes at the end.
