when i here music this powerful i feel home sick and want to go back to scotland i guess a scot can leave his country but you cant take scotland from his heart
Eh hello, the pipes are Irish, Scotia or "land of the Irish" is/was Irish for a mellennia all the customs are mirrors of Irish culture, Music, Language, Dress even sports(shinty) cemented by family and commercial ties. Still, beautiful music, fair dues to Dvorak. Good man Phil(yes I know our descendants are arabs)
Such a beautiful melody. The bagpiper played it at my mother's funeral two years ago, and I'm always moved when I hear it. I now have this wonderful song to remember her by. Thank you.
I have 54 years old and I never see or listen Phil Coulter and now I can´t belive how I live wuithout him .Tank you so much for bring to me so precious gift God bless you tank you
Phil Coulter has a God given gift, if music history does not remember him it would be a travesties like never knowing of Bach or any other great composer and thanks to him some of use are lucky to have had the privilege to know and love the grand voice of Paul Byrom. Thank you Phil
Thank you GC88, my BF committed suicide a few weeks ago and this video brought me a lot of peace. Us firemen always enjoy a good song with bagpipes. He would've really liked this as well. Thanks.
Thank you GC88, my BF committed suicide a few weeks ago and this video brought me a lot of piece. Us firemen always enjoy a good song with bagpipes. He would've really liked this as well. Thanks.
I played this tune on my pipes at my grandads funeral as the coffin was carried out of the church..... this tune sounds brilliant on any instrument, but i especially love it on the pipes
When I hear Going Home on the pipes, I think of my Father at peace now and chasing deer in a meadow or resting in the Highlands among the Heather. He fought a valiant fight against cancer and in the end, he left us. It helps me to think he made it back to Scotland, back to the lands of our ancestors and now he is strong again as we remember him. See you again Dad, keep the fire warm.
@annlynn9 There's also a famous photo (& film) taken at FDR's funeral of a man playing an accordian with tears flowing down his cheeks -- I believe he was playing "Going Home." I've tried to locate it on YouTube but can't.
You folks may want to youtube the boy choir Libera's covers of this song. Especially Josh Madine/Ben Phillips version off their dvd Angel Voices: Libera in Concert. Very soft and comforting.
We just had a bagpiper play this at my mother-in-law's funeral as the bearers carried the coffin to the gravesite. I think it added so much to the service to have music like this at the gravesite.
Listening to your video makes me appreciate my hearing. This is very lovely, thanks for sharing. I love that song, "Going Home", usually it makes me cry. This today made me smile, thanks for the gift.
@ GC88: I really appreciate you posting Phil Coulter's work on YouTube, because I can't find it anywhere else. Thank you! ...This is such a beautiful song.
This song has always made me feel very peaceful when I hear it. My sophomore year in high school, my marching band played this and taps in the third movement. It was never the taps that made me cry, it was always Going Home.
Going Home is a variation of Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No.9 (Op. 95), Largo, from his New World Symphony.
One of his Conservatory students, William Fisher, wrote a choral arrangement of the theme from the second movement of the Ninth Symphony, calling it "Goin' Home."
The work premiered on December 16, 1893, and has since become one of his best-loved.
It was, apparently, also used in Four Weddings and a Funeral film...

Krásná skladba, jistě i Dvořák by jí ocenil. Jeho hudba stále žije.
Zdravím z jeho rodiště. Greetings from Czech Republic

My disappointment:
I'm here because I mistakenly thought it's Mark Knopfler's "Going home".
My jubilation:
This is a most beautiful interpretation of Dvorak's great symphony I'd ever heard of, in a nontraditional way.
Thank God, I'm here.

"Going Home" was played during President Kennedy's funeral procession. I've heard many renditions of it, but this is loveliest of all.
