  • the pythons would be proud

  • we had dirty rotten ol' teatoweoooooooo

  • Oh Alan, you're amazing. I'm quite frankly prepared to forgive the fact that you're very obviously reading the script behind your mag.

  • ok - so there are at least 52 zombies walking the earth.

  • I love how much Eddie corpses after Vic speaks.

  • I love how when alan first talks everyone cheers lol!

  • vic reeves is killing here

  • Monty Python FTW. Love some of these comedians but they don't shine here and Python did it so much better. No delivery in this!

  • @DJJamesG Actually, the group that did it before Python were best. They were called "At Last The 1948 Show". And these guys have great delivery. Sure, I'm a huge Python fan but they're the ones that made this one famous, not the ones that did it best.

  • @spacecowboy5000 Thanks for the info. Will investigate

  • why can't they keep a straight face? it is not really funny if they break! nothing better than the python-version...

  • very gd but nothing beats the monty python version!!

  • Thrash us to sleep.... with his willy!

    Luxury.

    hahahahahahaha

  • AY but ya knoooooooooooow...

  • LOLs Harry

keep working on t The T

  • LOLs Harry

We used to live in "T" the corridor

  • we were so bloody poor we lived in Ireland in an empty bank vault...... had to take handouts from the homeless and worked 500 hours a day for nothing and eat shit once a day and regurgitate it for next week.. we MIGHT get dead decomposed rats for Christmas ....IF WE WERE LUCKY...

  • @fairhillnorrie Luxury!

  • I think jesus has just walked on! LMFAO

  • I think jesus as just walked on. LMFAO

  • "....in cold blood, mind"

  • LOL

    I love Alan Rickman.

  • Money won't buy you a nuclear radar system...

    Love.

  • passing turks slipper :D

  • @2112murphy

Exactly. I loved the fact that everyone knew the original and were shocked by the unexpectedness of the variations. Hit us with his willy, indeed !!

  • That was the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Brilliant. Loved it :D

  • Rickman's the only one who's doing a good job here.

  • Obviously impossible to match the pythons but they were bloody Brilliant!!!! Alan Rickman kept a straight face <3 Love him t' bits

  • look at our Eddie..........brilliant..cute...great Hawaii shirt and glasses

  • Rickmans the only one not laughing during the scene. The other three could learn something

  • @bcafc i hate people like you

  • Headmaster, it's Professor Snape! And he's doing comedy with Muggles!

  • Wiyout hermesweeeeeetas or canesten.....

    Reeves is a lunatic :)

  • Izzard is adorable and Rickman is shaggable

  • Such a good version 8D

Izzard definitely steals the show in my opinion x3

  • Where are the matching suits?

  • not as good as the monty python sketch but still good

  • Defs wasn't as good as the Python one, but still good.

Lol Eddie Izzard's just pissing himself

  • For the people complaining about the audience laughing in the wrong places: The audience clearly know the sketch! Thay laugh at the bits the performers change and come up with themselves to make the whole thing even more outrageous! That's why they're not laughing that much when Alan Rickman is talking, he's mostly sticking to the original lines! The sketch is clearly not ment to be the same, it's ment to evoke the memory of the original, and then take it to a new level of obscurity (I think).

  • MILK OR SHOOOGARRRR!

  • Too slow...takes too long to get anywhere, and the audience are laughing their heads off at the bits that aren't the funniest...can't beat monty python.

  • this is so weird, the audience seems to laugh for no reason at times

  • Nothing can compare to the original Monty python sketch. Nothing compares.

  • Although this is attributed to Monty Python the sketch was written by Tim Brook-taylor and first performed on "At Last The 1948 Show"

  • Funny thing is Vic Reeves (Jim Moir) was born in Leeds and you don't get much moor yorkshire than t'that!

I think Alan Rickman is too.

Leeds, a wonderful city, shame about the football team.

  • This NOTHING on the original. It's so slow!!

  • t the lake

    t the motorway

    t the midle night

    t the mill

    pricless and true

  • @pinkyellowblackred It's not true. The 't' sound is used instead of ' to the', not just 'to'.

    t' lake

    t' motorway

    etc.

  • @jamesjohnson88 do you live in yorkshire

i lived up north for 6 years and i heard people say

    t -the ...

  • @pinkyellowblackred though they were people who were not from there just trying to fit in

    ^_^

  • @pinkyellowblackred Yes, I have lived in Yorkshire for near enough 22 years. Some places aren't as broad as other, but real the real Yorkshire accent is as I said.

Further more, where applicable, the 't' sound is attached to the end of word. For example, 'on the motorway' would become 'Ont motorway'.

  • @jamesjohnson88 calm down

    i was only commenting

are you a yorkshire dialect teacher or something

  • @pinkyellowblackred

Didn't mean to cause any offence. I'm just a uni student and people are always fascinated by how 'northern' I sound, yet, where i'm from, I'm not really considered to have much of an accent, lol. So, I just try to educate where I can... My housemate sounds more like a Scot than a Yorkshireman when he attempts it.

  • @jamesjohnson88 ;) no worries

    i am horrible at accents

when i try to act scotish i sound chinese

    :)))

  • . . . . And I can't get the mental image of Severus Snape sitting with three Yorkshiremen and bragging about whose childhood was worst. That just makes this sketch all the more lulzy. And win. Three cheers for Python and three cheers for these hilarious comedians! XD

  • Eddie losing it makes it all the more funny, and Alan's deadpanning it fantastic.

  • Hahaha amazing.

  • To everybody complaining about the accents: they aren't meant to try and match the accents. The way they perform it is exactly what makes this piece hilarious. If it was just a half-assed copy of the original (and amazing) Python sketch, it wouldn't be nearly as good.

  • lol their accents are crap, still good though :P

  • The Python version is 10,000x better...

Still, that's like saying the Beatles doing "Hey Jude" is 10,000 better than any cover band (and infinitely better if that band happens to be of the clan Jonas.)

You can't top Monty Python on their own bit

But these guys are relatively good, and, of course, Rickman is ungodly BRILLIANT!

  • ungodly brilliant. what does that mean? this is a great live performance. If u cover a song then its best to do it a little different otherwise whats the point? unt to use Hey Jude as an example of a great beatles song is obvious and dumb.

  • dandmrb watch the original and yourl get it

  • shtevie92 yes he is ive got this sketch on dvd

  • why are they acting weird...

  • is alan rickman reading his lines from the magazine?

  • that was shit, they havent even got yorkshire accents

  • the fact its a complete shambles makes it funny not all comedy linear sticking to the rules, like rik mayall, he will balls it up and get a huge laugh, just because you dont get it doesnt mean its shit

  • Sounds like Eddie couldn't quite master the Yorkshire accent, and ended up sounding more like Ewan McGregor instead.

  • Brilliant interpretation of a classic sketch!

  • First off I don't think most of the audience is aware of the original sketch, which is why they find it so funny. They're experiencing it for the first time. (Not everyone in the world has seen Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl you know.!)

Secondly, it's a testament to Chapman's and Cleese's writing that they can produce a sketch that can be improvised around and still be found hilarious 40 years later.

  • this sketch goes waay back before the hollywood bowl..it appears in 'at last the 1948 show' with marty feldman about 1967 secondly chapman cleese never wrote it..,tim brooke taylor did..

  • this is not immitation.. thats the best thing.. great version .. izzard and reeves.. perfect!

  • You *have* heard of things like reinterpretation and progression, right? There's doing an old sketch, and there's building on the old sketch with new material. Would you really rather hear the same thing every time than hear new stuff which could be funnier?

  • 'A self-indulgent mockery'? You need to stop taking comedy so seriously, man. If you were up on that stage being all stiff and serious like you are now, somehow I doubt that people would laugh.

Chill, dude! So what if they twist the sketch a bit? How do you think the Pythons got the sketch in the first place - by doing what everyone else always did before them? It is the very *spirit* of the Pythons to be surreal and improvisational, don't you agree?

  • Well all right - at least say that it's your *opinion* that this is bad, rather than stating what you think as though it's indisputable truth.

If you go around saying that things are complete trash just because you don't like them you're not gunna make many friends in this world.

At least if you say that it's just your opinion and allow for other people's opinions as well, those other people (like me) can respect you for being mature enough to tolerate different viewpoints.

  • @Stolanis Stuff that's funnier of course... which is why this fails so hard

  • Vic Reeves on form is AMAZINGLY GOOD

  • To all those who are trying to decide which is better - please open your dictionaries to the word "HOMAGE".

And just an aside - Izzard is GENIUS.

  • I quite thoroughly second that. Both the homage and the genius bits.

    (And other bits too.)

  • Was this improvised, or was it a staged "rewrite"?

  • cleese jones palin and atkinson destroy these guys

  • really i preferred cleese, jones, palin & CHAPMAN but this sketch was written b4 python and was co written by Tim Brooke Taylor i believe, the fact is these guys knew they couldn't top Python but they just had fun with it which is what comedy is all about so just lighten up dude

  • how about 3 British comecy legends and an equally funny world class film and theatre actor?

  • To have my 3 favourite comedians (Reeves, Izzard and Einfield) together performing one of my favourite sketches ever... genius. Wish I coulda been in the audience.

  • I was in the audience :) The video doesn't convey just how hard everyone was laughing.

  • Would have been a lot better if they all managed to keep straight faces throughout the performance. But its not bad at all.

  • Forgivable in the circumstance, 'cos you could tell they were having a riot up there. :)

  • They're funny but Monty Python did it better (but don't they always?)

  • Reeves and Izzard are improvising like mad, Rickman and Enfield join in, but Izzard steals the show.

Enfield is often annoying, especially with his exaggeration of the "t'". When he says "shit", it is nowhere near as funny as Izzard's sudden switch to "willy".

  • Liked it better when monty python did it.

  • I love it when Alan speaks and everyone flips out. "I think Jesus has just come in!"

  • Grrrrrr Vic and Harry annoy me!

    Eddie and Alan are beautiful!

  • Vic reeves is just the funnesit guy alive. He makes me laugh all the time!! 8D

One other that was making laugh is having Alan with a straight face through out and having Eddie cracking up beside him. Love all of them! :)

  • As a Yorkshireman I can do nowt but hear the indiscrepancies in the accent and dialoge ;o)

For instance.... the 'T' aint pronounced if you say something like "In the morning"... you'd say "int mornin" and barely say the 't'. Or if you were saying "I'm going to the shop" you'd say " I'm going t shop" but wouldn't say "the" after the 't' after as harry enfield does.

I know it s a piss take before you start...just thort I'd fight the Tykes corna.

    (plus monty python's is better)

  • Vic: RIGHT!!!

  • And when we got home our dad woiuld thrash us to sleep with his willy.

  • They drank their tea out of WHAT?? please ty

  • I love Harry Enfields 't' emphasis!

  • i think that this is amazing!! i love that Alan can keep the straight face and all the others just crack up.

  • oh come on, it's called comedy guys, the accents are meant to be good! Long live the broad yorkshire accent and the comedy value therein!

  • me been broad yorkshire, the accents are crap. There's a few words coming through, but only a few. Still vic reeves never fails to mke me laugh. Whoop alan rickman, love him lol

  • one of the funniest pieces of comedy i have seen in years!

    loved it!!!

  • Alan Rickman has the most consistent accent but he's not that good a comedian.

  • and thrash us to sleep with his willy LMAO! legendary

  • not as good as original. vic reeves was epic

  • its the laughs the izzard gets with the you were lucky that gets me

  • This is awesome. lol I love watching them crack each other up!

  • LOL Totally crap accents.

  • that's the fun of it

  • lol genius

btw the accent is so unbelievably wrong, but i love how he does the t bit AND then says the aswell :)

  • I love how Harry Enfield does the "T" bit

  • This is one of the funniest sketches ever!

  • Vick Reeves is a cock and always will be.

Alan Rickman is the legend here: Die Hard, Harry Potter, Sweeney Todd etc

  • Um, Rickman gets the fewest laughs, unlike Reeves who can at least improvise.

  • aaaah, british accent :D

  • They're obviously drunk, but this is hilarious!!!

  • they're trying to set each other off for the live gig - hence the overdoing ti on the accents

  • The idea of this is that the people are trying to be yorkshiremen. That's the funny bit. In Python's version, it's the actual humour that's funny. :P

  • I thought this was a very good homage to a classic sketch.

Seeing Alan Rickman on the same stage as Vic Reeves is hilarious enough as it is.

Who cares if it wasn't as good as when the Pythons did it.

  • Well said!

  • Comment removed

  • They ruined the skit

  • I agree the original was better.

  • Its not supposed to be the same. It looks more like a homage to me.

  • So technically it wás Python!... Partially:P

  • Hmm... Monty Python's is still the best, can't beat the masters...

  • Well no, but they didn't come up with it either. Although their version is the best one.

  • They didn't?! Then who did?

  • Hrm.. I think it was the 1984 Show?? The original original sketch is on this site somewhere. Cleese and Chapman were in that one too.

  • No, the original had The Goons... Marty Feldman, Spike Jones, etc. Python pales in comparison... all these are homage to The Goons.

  • The Goons? I thought it debuted in At Last the 1948 Show, and that Tim Brooke-Taylor wrote it. I can see, though, where it would pass easily from group to group back then.

  • and they'll be highly skeptical

  • oh man eddie was cracking up the whole time! XDDD that made me laught twice as hard!!

  • vic reeves is mint tha nos ee's only 1 thats got gos own accent reight ow doo

  • they'll be highly skeptical...

  • Vic came off best by far! But a close thing between the other three, and though I say that, Vic wasn't that much in front. XD Classic.

  • funny as fuck but vics the only one whos got the accent even close lol YORKSHIRE BORN AND BRED

  • Oh, Eddie laughing at Vic is the cutest thing ever!

  • "Oh i think Jesus just walked in" lmao Oh, Alan Rickman and his silky voice makes me melt. <3

  • I loved Eddie's first line!

  • Really enjoyed that...and by the looks of it, neary as much as they did in making it!!

  • Poor imitation of the original, IMHO.

  • but that was the point... dumbarse

  • absolutely hilarious

  • eddie at 4.43!!!! LoL

poor fucker couldn't keep a straight face :P

  • I love that Enfield keeps saying things like 'go to work in't the mill' when the 't' on the end of the previous word is instead of the word 'the'. I love the Yorkshire accent.

  • pretty good but they didnt do it nearly as well as monty python did

  • F'er god's sake - it's a construct... everyone knows the joke so you just build on it. Vic comes off best in my mind, although Rickman sticks to his guns... have you never heard of the Aristocrats?

  • Eeeee, aye! Yer not wrong, no, are you eckerslike, an' ah should knaw cos' me awd granny allus would say, come the Tuesday before the Friday week...'Shut that bloody trap door again it's not bloomin' Sat'day now tha knaws!' Aye! True enough!

  • *sceptical

  • izzard blates best! but, yes SIR!! i CAN boogie. whun i firs' 'eard me ol' folks tales o't childhood, i wus 'ighly scepetical, bu' na~ am ou' o ol' 1-2 step to; aar, i gorrit tufffff na~...

  • Fantastic.. I love that Mr R is doing it with these fantastic comedians. Not the original, but still fecking funny!

  • Not a patch on Pythons version.

  • the crowd is loving it.

  • not as good as the original, sad to say

  • funny take on the original :)

  • Thanx for posting - it's hilarious - still weeping. Eddie is the best "corpser" in the biz.just looks like he's having such fun...

  • Corpser? WTF?

  • Laughing when you have to be serious??? wtf

  • Oh okay. Thanks and why wtf?

  • For fun :-)

  • I like fun. Hmm fun... Goes of to watch cake or death.

  • Enjoy... Have you made a decision yet? As to Cake or death< that is???

  • Well its a tough one. Hmm on the one hand is a delicious slice cake on the other is death. Hmmmmmm... Hmmmm... I think I'll have... The chicken please!

  • VERRY WELL! Welcome aboard Insanity Airlines, flight no, err 1. ;-)

  • Ah! Thank you. Umm... Could I have a white wine? XD

  • Sure - would you like that "covered in bees"?

  • Oh, yes please and can I have some Penne Ala Arrabiata with it too please?

  • Oh sorry I didn't realise we were actually on flight 1 of THE DEATH STAR...;-) Can I get you a Cup of Tea?
