@DJJamesG Actually, the group that did it before Python were best. They were called "At Last The 1948 Show". And these guys have great delivery. Sure, I'm a huge Python fan but they're the ones that made this one famous, not the ones that did it best.
we were so bloody poor we lived in Ireland in an empty bank vault...... had to take handouts from the homeless and worked 500 hours a day for nothing and eat shit once a day and regurgitate it for next week.. we MIGHT get dead decomposed rats for Christmas ....IF WE WERE LUCKY...
For the people complaining about the audience laughing in the wrong places: The audience clearly know the sketch! Thay laugh at the bits the performers change and come up with themselves to make the whole thing even more outrageous! That's why they're not laughing that much when Alan Rickman is talking, he's mostly sticking to the original lines! The sketch is clearly not ment to be the same, it's ment to evoke the memory of the original, and then take it to a new level of obscurity (I think).
Too slow...takes too long to get anywhere, and the audience are laughing their heads off at the bits that aren't the funniest...can't beat monty python.
@pinkyellowblackred Yes, I have lived in Yorkshire for near enough 22 years. Some places aren't as broad as other, but real the real Yorkshire accent is as I said.
Further more, where applicable, the 't' sound is attached to the end of word. For example, 'on the motorway' would become 'Ont motorway'.
Didn't mean to cause any offence. I'm just a uni student and people are always fascinated by how 'northern' I sound, yet, where i'm from, I'm not really considered to have much of an accent, lol. So, I just try to educate where I can... My housemate sounds more like a Scot than a Yorkshireman when he attempts it.
. . . . And I can't get the mental image of Severus Snape sitting with three Yorkshiremen and bragging about whose childhood was worst. That just makes this sketch all the more lulzy. And win. Three cheers for Python and three cheers for these hilarious comedians! XD
To everybody complaining about the accents: they aren't meant to try and match the accents. The way they perform it is exactly what makes this piece hilarious. If it was just a half-assed copy of the original (and amazing) Python sketch, it wouldn't be nearly as good.
Still, that's like saying the Beatles doing "Hey Jude" is 10,000 better than any cover band (and infinitely better if that band happens to be of the clan Jonas.)
You can't top Monty Python on their own bit
But these guys are relatively good, and, of course, Rickman is ungodly BRILLIANT!
ungodly brilliant. what does that mean? this is a great live performance. If u cover a song then its best to do it a little different otherwise whats the point? unt to use Hey Jude as an example of a great beatles song is obvious and dumb.
the fact its a complete shambles makes it funny not all comedy linear sticking to the rules, like rik mayall, he will balls it up and get a huge laugh, just because you dont get it doesnt mean its shit
First off I don't think most of the audience is aware of the original sketch, which is why they find it so funny. They're experiencing it for the first time. (Not everyone in the world has seen Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl you know.!)
Secondly, it's a testament to Chapman's and Cleese's writing that they can produce a sketch that can be improvised around and still be found hilarious 40 years later.
this sketch goes waay back before the hollywood bowl..it appears in 'at last the 1948 show' with marty feldman about 1967 secondly chapman cleese never wrote it..,tim brooke taylor did..
You *have* heard of things like reinterpretation and progression, right? There's doing an old sketch, and there's building on the old sketch with new material. Would you really rather hear the same thing every time than hear new stuff which could be funnier?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this isn't a reinterpretation or progression, it's a self-indulgent mockery. they can't hold back their laughter, and they shift the focus from the words in the sketch to their own idiosyncratic pronounciations..
'A self-indulgent mockery'? You need to stop taking comedy so seriously, man. If you were up on that stage being all stiff and serious like you are now, somehow I doubt that people would laugh.
Chill, dude! So what if they twist the sketch a bit? How do you think the Pythons got the sketch in the first place - by doing what everyone else always did before them? It is the very *spirit* of the Pythons to be surreal and improvisational, don't you agree?
Well all right - at least say that it's your *opinion* that this is bad, rather than stating what you think as though it's indisputable truth.
If you go around saying that things are complete trash just because you don't like them you're not gunna make many friends in this world.
At least if you say that it's just your opinion and allow for other people's opinions as well, those other people (like me) can respect you for being mature enough to tolerate different viewpoints.
really i preferred cleese, jones, palin & CHAPMAN but this sketch was written b4 python and was co written by Tim Brooke Taylor i believe, the fact is these guys knew they couldn't top Python but they just had fun with it which is what comedy is all about so just lighten up dude
To have my 3 favourite comedians (Reeves, Izzard and Einfield) together performing one of my favourite sketches ever... genius. Wish I coulda been in the audience.
Reeves and Izzard are improvising like mad, Rickman and Enfield join in, but Izzard steals the show.
Enfield is often annoying, especially with his exaggeration of the "t'". When he says "shit", it is nowhere near as funny as Izzard's sudden switch to "willy".
