@Ilikemixingthingsup I agree he had a good year...just not the best year. I mean compare him to Dominick Cruz. Velasquez got two big knockouts over a old Nogueira and an over-hyped Lesnar. In my opinion he's still not a #5 heavyweight, but that's mostly because he doesn't have the experience.

Then look at Cruz, this guy wiped through three top 10 bantamweights with little problems. At this rate he'll have to move up to 145lbs soon.

@ghostphantom563 You make some good points but your also being a bit hypocritical. You mention that Cruz mowed through his competition but his last fight was a decision while his fight before that was a SPLIT decision, doesn't sound like a dominating champ if you ask me. Cain wins and he wins in devastating fashion and on top of that he's still undefeated, Cruz on the other hand has a loss against Urijah Faber. Sure Cain is inexperienced, but doesn't that mean he's just that deserving of FOTY?

@Ilikemixingthingsup I respect what your saying but, first off with the garbage judges out there are only decisions and knockouts/submissions. Cruz clearly beat Benavidez for a second time. Secondly Cain's level of opposition is much less then what Cruz faced. Cruz beat 3 top 10 135lbs-ers while Cain beat old post-prime Nogueira and a hyped Lesnar. Lastly, it's not that I don't think Cain had a really good year it just wasn't the best of everyone. Jose Aldo and GSP also had good years.

@ghostphantom563 True I agree with you, some judges like Cecil Peoples always tend to make mistakes... They should look into that, but besides that the other main reason I believe that Cain took FOTY is because he became the first Mexican Heavyweight champ in a combat sport, period. That in itself is a big feat alone. As for Nogueira being past his prime, that has nothing to do with anything, you still have to give credit where credit is due... Same goes for Brock he still had 40 lbs on Cain.

@Ilikemixingthingsup Once again, I respect your opinion but to start with, Cain is NOT the first Mexican heavyweight champion dispute what ads for UFC 121 said. Hes just a normal Latin American, I'm not even sure he counts as a Chicano. Either way his national origin really doesn't play a large factor. Secondly a post-prime Nog does count for something, its not the same guy back in PRIDE he's nothing special any more and for Lesner's weight, who cares? He still lacks skill in a lot of ways.

No, and even then he dominated both of them and he's dominated every fighter who has stepped in the cage with him. Cain has an impressive cardio tank and is a very well rounded fighter. Arguing that someone's opponents suck is pretty childish, doesn't help to prove your point by just discrediting others.

And I'm not arguing that Cain isn't a great heavyweight, he's one of the best, it's just that his quality of opposition in 2010 was not on the same level (in my opinion) to that of what Cruz faced. I'm not saying Cain isn't legitimate for the award but so is Aldo or GSP. Lastly, I don't see how its "childish" to somewhat discredit his opposition.

Lesnar got no hype period lol Comparing a heavyweight to a 135lb is just dumb. Cain has a very unique fighting spirit that has never entered the UFC ring before. Beating a no real talent lesnar was just another man in the ladder he needed to defeat to get the well deserved champ belt.

Second Lesnar is all hype, the only skill he has is a good takedown and good TOP position wrestling skills mixed in with some pumleing. He's really not much more interesting then Pudzianowski. I admit his transition to MMA is worth some praise but he has a lot to learn. Third weight shouldn't matter, its a P4P for the year. Lastly I agree he had a good year and is on his way but not there yet.
