I remember The Carpenters in the 70s. While not "my kind of music" (love songs, light rock...), nobody can dispute that Karen was an excellent singer, worthy of respect and the fame and fortune she got. And the whole situaiton with her getting anorexia and starving herself until she died at a young age... I heard her on talk shows and she sounded like an intelligent and sensible person. So that's a decease that one cannot help.
Ah what memories, what memories, so I'm watching a PBS show with original 50's early 60's acts and immediately thought to go back to this - the BEST recreation ever of the period. I did get to see them do this live in Syracuse, NY, in the spring of 74. Amazing, they were. They changed it up live. A hard working outfit they were as well. Perfection in the studio.
AHA! This is from a record that my mother played a thousand times when I was five! All these years, I've remembered that DJ and bits of what he said (and the songs), but couldn't remember exactly from where. It's a relief to finally find out that it was the medley in "Now and Then". Another little piece of the puzzle falls into place.
As a guitar rock fan like me you look at the pictures of the Carpenters and think you didn't ought to be bothering but then you listen and it's amongst the best ever modern music.
I used to listen to this record as a little bitty kid, before I knew who Karen Carpenter was, and before I knew the songs were covers. "Now and Then" was in a way my intro into liking music, because I fricken loved that record at age 5 or so, and know every word to every song sung on the record. I also now know who wrote all those songs, and every word to every other song that Karen sang. It was a great intro to music record for a kid, that's for sure!
Have you made a Part 2 with the other songs? I am trying to find the Radio contest with Mark Rudolph. I think it is at the end of The Night Has A Thousand Eyes which you said is Part 2.
To eljay345, Sir, all you need to do to get this entire oldies set is purchase the CD , " Now & Then", from 1972. The 2nd side is thisa entire song set., with Lead Guitarist Tony Peluso, as the DJ. This was Karen's voice at it's best, & Richer's arrangements just masterful. Wolfsky9
Had the press in the beginning not mentioned Karen was not exactly thin, and had the fans not wished they could see Karen completely instead of "just" seeing her sitting behind her drums, things might have turned out very different, IMHO.
Why couldn't they let things be as they were when it all started, it was simply perfect!!
Agreed. The fact that she (a woman!) played the drums, alone, was phenomenal...! Nevermind her fantastic, original voice...! And she was a great drummer at that....she was actually a Jazz drummer, which is very intricate.
my kids liked thios the best of all the albums which I started to play in the 80;s right after they were born. Even now when I play this Medley they sing along by heart!also they feel very homy when they hear Carpenters in my house!
wow...feeling so nostalgic right now...i was 6 years old and was in th ephilippines but can remember how happy my childhood was with 5 sisters and 2 brothers and a loving and hardworking parents. we were not rich not very poor but we're happy.now my mom is gone to be with the LORD! ...and am so far away from my siblings and dad...how i miss them so!
Their medleys really show their remarkable talent in reprising the oldies with their fantastic vocal range, I like Karen's rendition of Johnny Angel, sounds better than the original IMO. Great video montage too!
@karencarpenterfan You Ungrateful Cunt. """""extraneous FX!!!!!!!!""""" LOL You put the fucker on if your such a big fan, otherwise enjoy it for what it beautifully is.
To:Love Howard Banister: Thank you so very much for adding these videos of the Carpenters. I have NEVER heard Karen sing "The End Of The World" or "Johnny Angel" before and she did such a beautiful job. You really made my night. She will ALWAYS be missed.
