What a great experience I just had. I just heard a voice that I thought I'd never hear again. It was Molly O'Day. As a young lad I remember my mom and dad used to buy her records--the old 78 rpm records and play them on an old crank type Victrola. The one song that stands out most in my mind was "Tramp on the Street." We'd play that record and then crank up the Victrola and play it again, And again. That voice was a haunting voice. You never got tired of it. Even today I still love it.
What a sad day when we lost Molly O'Day. I love her music. It is the very embodiment of the roots of hill music. Bluegrass to you all who don't understand about 'hill music'.
Here in La my grandma is known by this song she is up in age an has alzheimer disease an a few month ago for my 27th birthday i spent it with her recording her singing an when people heard the Sis Jane was sing it tokk about 15 min an the house was full an i couldnt do anything but cry to see her stand there an sing ..Ill try to post a video on here .

when i was a child my mom sang this song, while i tryed to play the guitar . she had another song that was great, im going home on the morning train, what a great song and she was a great talent.
I grew up in rural TN and my mother had ordered albums off the radio on a label called Rimrock. It was all these great old country gospel tunes and this song was one of those. Mama would have these albums playing while she ironed clothes and I am so thankful she did or I wouldn't have known this beautiful music. Thank you for sharing your tunes.
@RockinRita45 Yes, your Mom probably ordered them from Wayne Raney from XERF in Del Rio, Tx. I used to go out to the car and raise the antenna and turn to almost the end of the AM dial to listen to his show where he sold records including this one. The Rimrock label was Wayne's.
Thanks for posting this. I had never heard the song, but I certainly know the great Molly O'Day. She was a true angel of God, I have to say. She gave up her career in order to preach the word. This old world (and I myself) could take a lesson from what she gave.
