I think she is a "good" singer but not "great"...These days, there are hardly any female singers with that natural, clean, CD quality, powerful voice like the singers of the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's (Mariah carey, celine dion, amy grant, whitney houston, patsy cline, petula clark, bette midler, barbara steisand etc etc)..I can go on forever about past, great singers...I'm sorry to say this, but the "magic" of music is dead with modern times..Nowdays, it's all about mass produced music, money

@GTnumber1 those kinds of voices are rare but they are out there. from these kinds of shows i think melanie is the 3rd great female voice found and the other 2 are kelly and carrie. go watch some more of melanie, the first time i ever heard her i got goosebumps and just kind of sat there in awe because she can go anywhere with her voice and it sounds flawless. to think that her voice is only good is just plain wrong, sorry.

The problem with trying to do an MJ cover is that artists try really hard to make it different and better...but they seem to forget that Michael was the king of perfectionist and he most likely spent hours and days making sure that the version that made it to he cd was the absolute best version! Michael already perfected the song and style! Trying to change one note or singing it a different way just doesnt work! We love the original too much!!! The original was too perfect and good!!!

@DholProdigy so this being said...i think that this was a bad song choice for her and i also agree with others that it lacked the emotion and drive that michael put in this and all of his songs! You either got to sing it exactly like Michael or dont even attempt. There are only very few MJ songs that you can change it and it will still be great.... In conclusion, I truly thing that Melanie is one of the most talented and an amazinggg singer!!! She just has to find her niche!

@DholProdigy I don't agree with what you said about the artists trying to make it different & better. In a competition like this, you're gonna see artists of all different styles & backgrounds. They're not gonna sing it EXACTLY how MJ did it because the original may not be their style. And nobody's expecting their version to suddenly surpass MJ's on any level. They are simply paying tribute to a legend by taking one of his classic songs & singing it how they would sing it. Mel did amazing btw!!!

@DholProdigy I don't think she changed anything, though. It's the same arrangement, just a shorter version of it. Every singer is going to bring something a little different to the song because it's a different voice, but I don't think it's as if she desecrated it. I liked it much better than the girl who did Billie Jean, for example, where it did seem like she tried to change it too much.
