@choppchopp007 In the "off-season" when bodybuilders aren't going to shows/whatever they call it they are at a higher body fat than when they are "in-season"
@rgs2654321 I'd say weight lifting for strength and/or power is a lot better than training for looks/size. However, let people do whatever they want to do.
@Buscles During off season you need to bulk up and grow muscles. And to do this you need to eat a lot of calories. This also puts on fat and weight gain. Then before a competion, they cut back their calories and strip the fat with extra diet and cardio. That is when the 6 pack and definition will come out.
@Buscles Hi! I know this is an old post, but I happened to notice it, and thought I'd mention, having a gut, or anything hiding a 'Six pack' or flat stomach seems, in our society to be synonimous with age. It has more to do with the fact that people, still, in the Western Culture do not look after themselves, and we watch those around us get more and more unfit, and fatter with age. Definately isn't meant to be that way..far from it :)
these bodybuilders look better during their offseason when they have a healthy BF%. that insanely "cut" look they get for competitions isnt nice to look at
just because his veins aren't looking like they're gonna pop someone's eyes does not mean they aren't roiding it out. He's simply in off-season and carbing like a mad man. He's eating anything he wants right now.
at professional level? doubtful. the big money events deliberately dont test because they want to see huge muscles. Yeah sure you get plenty of amateurs who train naturally and end up looking really good but only these monster muscles guys end up making careers out of bodybuilding.
on the stage some bodybuilders have 3% of body fat (which is extremly unhealthy) and "off season" they have a lot more fat so the muscles look bigger because of that extra fat
How do bodybuilders stay lean during this process because im looking at this guy and he's pretty lean Im trying to go from 184 to 220 and I don't know how to stay lean while gaining weight if that is possible
all depends on genetics and your diet. if youre gaining alot of fat while bulking then you should change up youre diet. get rid of the junk food, focus one protiens and carbs and no more then 30% of your cals for the day should be from fat, and stay away from trans fats
@undertaker6102005 bodyfat makes you bigger. which is why some fat people actually think they are strong to some ecto metamorhpic dude (somone who is slim but very vascular at low bf)
@undertaker6102005 they would be much more powerful in off season, when on stage they are totally drained of all fat and about ready to fall over into cramps.
in the off season, bodybuilders bulk up - gain muscle and inevitably a bit of fat. coming up to a competition, when they are in-season, they try to loose all the fat gained by doing insane amounts of cardio and eating generally low fat foods.
the most important for losing fat.I am on a low carb diet right now and I have lost fat without doing exhausting amounts of cardio.I do the typical 3 days per week 20-40 minutes.I can't wait bulking again!
I agree with you and the other two posters who like the off season look better than the competitive bodybuilder look. Off season looks so much more powerful than the stringy flat look of a dehydrated, starved competitive bodybuilder. It looks healthier and from a practical standpoint is easier to attain and maintain. Today's professional bodybuilding has gone so far off track.
Looks like he keeps in good shape during the off season, maybe some work on his traps...but yeah once he starts cutting again he'll regain his abs. Good work
he looks great. man! thank God there are guys like this in the world that keep us dreaming!

Cutting
And Bulking bro.
Cutting lowers your BF % so you look all ripped up
Bulking is the opposite.
In order to cut you need like a 500 calorie deficit in your diet+cardio.
