@y7veyhaz Hey! Nice to see a return customer hehe :) I believe the Cintiq 12wx is still available to buy, although I guess you just have to know where to look. Buying it online rather than in a store is much easier though for sure. :)
@thelittlestragdoll Well this is using a tablet, which is actually not how most digital artists create art. Most digital artist actually DO use a mouse and pad. Some people, like this artist for example, use other electronics such as tablets to draw their art with a stylus ^^
i dont understand one thing. when i import someones sketch into my photoshop, i create new layer for lineart, but then i disable original sketch and i have my lineart on the screen but the background is hollow, it's not white, there are white / gray squares...................... how to make that backgrund is white after i remove original sketch !?
@Lundvalnaden you add another layer and put it under your transparent one, if its transparent too, then just color it all white but make sure your on the new layer and not the layer you did the inking on.
@Lundvalnaden After you hide the original layer with the sketch, make another layer behind it and use the bucket/fill tool and fill it with white. :) Now you have a white background behind your lineart. The grey checkerboards just show you what areas are 'transparent'. If you saved it as a Gif or png24, anywhere that you see the checkerboard, will be invisible, so the page background color of a website would show through.
Woah, what an incredible piece there! This was probably one of the best Wacom videos I've seen. You make it look so easy, yet I know it probably takes a lot to get used to.
i have just tested the bamboo pen and touch, with out any codecs for them, and with just windows paint. i found it quite hard to draw with it :/ is it geting easier if you install the presure codec and a better painting pogram like photoshop cs 3 or 4?
I wouldn't say easier... put it this way; I can make a reasonably nice drawing with codecs installed but without codecs on paint (and not something good!) whatever i do will always be shit
try it with codect on photoshop first i beg you, lol. At least before you decide not to get one cuz its sooo good. BTW, if you really dont like the whole pen, not a mouse, thing, I strongly suggest looking into a monitor based tablet although its a bit pricey! (over £3k! )
You can use a screen capture program, but since its a tablet video, I wanted people to see me actually using it, so I used a separate video camera. ;)
If you have the space, by all means. ;) I probably would have got one, but you need a fair bit of desk space, and my desk is rather crammed. Plus I have a 24" main monitor for all my color-accurate stuff, so I'm good with my smaller one. :) Good Luck and have fun!
Absolutely! You can lean on it as much as you'd like. It uses a sensor inside the pen and tablet to detect where its position is. Touching it or leaning on it has no effect. Just don't sit on it or anything, lol ;)
@schoenanimationz: I'm sorry but that's a disgusting solution. He has the full advantage of giving cleaner more neat and better lines then the pen tool. As for the magic wand you do realize that it leaves a white thin line between the line art and the color base. He has the advantage and uses it and respects it and doesn't take the cheap way around.
well as there aren't many people who own that kind of tablet it's also not very nice to call the other, normal method of colouring disgusting >>
for his picture, which he wants to colour, the pen tool method would be much easier and faster as there are many thick black lines that cover up any inaccuracies in the colouring process. for more detailed shading etc. the use of the brush tool is of course to his advantage, but as the picture is a very simple one to colour, the pen tool would be fine.
You both have some good points, Using the magic wand, then doing an 'expand' on the selection to grow it a pixel or to would probably have worked also, But I enjoy coloring with the brush tool most of the time. I find it relaxing, and unless I'm in a hurry to get things done, I'm just used to doing it the longer way. :)
Plus I typically store each section or color in its own layer so if I need to make adjustments, or if I mess up the shading/shadows, it doesn't destroy the entire image.
im thinking of buying the bamboo or intuos, i want to know if the programs for drawing are good enough or if you have to buy new software if you buy them?
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe all Wacom Tablets come with Adobe Photoshop Elements, which is perfect to get started. It'll be plenty to learn the basics of Photoshop. (Most of the more advanced features are removed, and its aimed at home consumers rather than professionals. But you can still use it for art and photo editing.)
This is a most excellent example of 'Constructive' Criticism. Thank you very much. ;)
Just because I may not be as good as Bob Ross, Picasso or Leonardo Davinci, doesn't mean it doesn't look nice. Everyone has their own tastes in art, and I'm quite happy with myself. Have an awesome day.
I have a question. I'm getting a tablet for Christmas and I was wondering, do all tablets show what your drawing on the tablet? (Like yours) The 1's at my school don't... So I'm worried I might get 1 that doesn't show the picture...
Unfortunately not all tablets have screens built in. Only the more expensive/higher end ones do. So if its a Christmas present, you'll likely just get one without a screen, (Unless you ask really nicely and your family can afford one with a screen.) :) Hope that helps.
When the author of this video said that the 'expensive' ones have the screens built in, I don't think that there was exactly enough emphasis on how much more expensive...
We're talking around 200$ for a Wacom Bamboo Fun, the lowest model you can get for digital drawing.
The Wacom Intuos vary from 220$ to around 700$ from smallest to biggest.
The ones with the screens, sadly, begin at 1000$ and end at 2000$.
Personally, I'm a graphic designer, and I use the Bamboo. It's fine when you get used to it, all of your motions are translated onto your screen. The only thing the ones with the screens do is break the link between your mind and your hand when you're trying to draw on a monitor.
Plus I'd recommend setting it to 'mouse mode' instead of 'pen mode'.
I'd recommend the Wacom Bamboo Fun as a first tablet, it's really awesome. It's almost identical to the Intuos feature-wise and cheaper.
@flashallround, The partial glove is made of a spandex material, and lets my hand glide over the surface of the tablet much more smoothly. :) Its a great, and cheap investment.
im thinking of getting an intuos, is a small intuos4 ok to work on i want to get into digital art but not wanting to put alot of money into it , to see if i like it..........would that be enough space to even do a big piece of art?? hope to hear from u...thnks
Yup! A small one will most likely be perfectly fine. As long as you don't draw with really big strokes (long arm movements) you'll be fine. If you want to draw more detail, simply zoom in on the picture, that way you can draw more accurately with a smaller tablet. :)
wow thats kinda cheap......whats so special about the wacom intuos that makes it twice as much as the wacom cintiq?? i could look it up but i felt like askin
Actually, the Cintiq is twice as much as the Intuos. The Cintiq has a built-in LCD screen (the tablet function is behind the screen, so basically you are drawing directly over the screen.) An Intuos is just the tablet, no display, so you use that to draw on while looking at your monitor.
;) And I hardly call $1200 cheap *chuckles* My Cintiq was $1200, a Intuos 6x8" is about $350-$450. :) Hope that helps.
Depends on what you're working with... Its always best to go bigger than you need, because you can always save it big, and make a smaller version. If you start off small, you can't make it bigger down the road, it'll look like crap. ;) I usually work with 3000 - 5000 pixels or so (Depending on the image shape) if its square, usually 4096x4096.
Thats awesome! Wow to bad I already bought my expensive toy and that I had to use the rest of my money on my horse because she was (and still is) having some health issues :( or I would so buy this! Great drawing by the way!
Thx :) Thankfully its not life threatening, but would you believe that today the railway caught fire right across from where I board her! God what a day! My luck really sucks lol...
Wow 5 stars for this vid but I have a quick question...can you tell me what kind of tablet you own...I would very much like to purchase one just like it since I have been looking for something like this for years...thanks and I really appreciate it!!!
How is the calibration? On my tablet pc, the calibration sucks, I have to purposefully calibrate incorrectly, and there is still error toward the edges. Usually about 2 cm. It's tolerable, but i've gone back to using my graphire for drawing, it just feels more natural. Computer is good, though its my only one, and i bought it at a steal for $600.
Hey I just got a tablet and i was wondering how you shade... like i mean how do u actually do it not by showing i mean how much darker do u make the green and stuff?
I'll be honest, Yes it does have jittery problems, more so towards the top and bottom edge for me, if you hover the cursor over the screen, or even rest it within the top 2 inches of the screen, it jitters about 3 - 4 pixels in all directions. So don't draw in the corners. :) But other than that, its definitely an amazing tool to draw with, and if you're not ready to fork out double the amount for one of its bigger brothers, the 12wx will be great for you.
I heard it can be fixed for the most part if you play around with the calibration settings a bit. Just needs a bit of tweaking. What kind of tweaks exactly, I am not sure. But you can probably figure it out. I think the jitter happens with monitors out of the box that have not been calibrated yet.
I have one. its completely re-vamped my art skills and improved my efficiency for clients at least 150%. No exaggeration. It was worth it. And it paid for itself within 2 days of ownership!!! I have the smudge guard too....that helps more than you would think. ALSO KEEP YOUR CINTIQ AS EXTENTION DISP!!! Its much better trust me.
How did you darken the picture temporarily so that you could color in the white (or similar color)? I've seen someone else do that as well and am curious now. Definitely seems helpful
Hey! :) Basically what I did is make a layer on top of all the other layers, filled it black, then adjusted the opacity. Then you just make the coloring layer on top of that. After your done, move the coloring layer underneith the line layer, and your done. You can then delete or just turn off the black layer.
It is a great help, especially for coloring those light colors that you can't see against a white background. :)
Great Tip, Though the main reason I didn't use that technique with this picture, was because of some of the large open-ended areas, and plus I just find it funner to color the whole thing by hand sometimes. :) Depends on how quickly I want to get a picture done that is.
Right click on your Desktop, click on the Settings tab, Your Cintiq should be the number "2" and your laptop "1", Click on number 2, then underneath the resolution slider, it'll say 2 options. First "Use this device as my primary Monitor" and second "Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor"
First of all, Click on "Use this device as the Primary Monitor" on the Cintiq, then click on the #1 monitor, and uncheck "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" that should disable the main one.
hi, can you help me too. i so happen to read what you said to that other person "thecoughdrop", and i followed the direction, and did everything. but now i want to switch it back, i don't want to use the cintiq as an extendtion. how do i switch it back? before my laptop and my cintiq were both the main screen. now only the laptop is the main screen and the cintiq is the extendtion. so it means i can't do my work on it. i hope i fix this thing.
You can't have two primary displays. One must be primary and the other secondary. Just right click on desktop --->properties-->settings and then from there in the drop down menu select your display of interest and near the bottom there are two options which are "use as primary display" and "extend my desktop onto this display".
Once you have your primary selected you can choose if you want your desktop extended over to the secondary also by selecting the other display in the drop down menu and checking the box next to "extend my windows desktop over this display".
Is that the 12WX? Just wondering cuz im looking into to replacing my Intous3 with one of these lol.....so much easier, its like actually drawing on paper or other mediums.
Yup, its the 12WX. :) Very pleased with it, it also replaced my Intuos3 6x8" (Its has about the same "drawing area" dimensions too, except its about an inch or two wider on each sides)
I'd only buy on eBay if you can find a really trustworthy seller... But you have to be careful, because if its not actually new, It might not have the full warranty. :)
You're more than half way there. Plus most sellers will sell the Cintiq for cheaper, but then charge $200 for shipping... If you can find a local store that would be best.
You could probably start off with a Graphire or Intuos if you want to keep saving towards a Cintiq (with the built in screen.) :)
Thanks! If you can't quite afford a Cintiq, I'd definitely recommend getting either a Graphire (Pretty cheap) or an Intuos (Much more professional, and still about 1/4 the price of the 12wx Cintiq)
Great video! Just curious...what resolution are you working in on your Cintiq? I recently got my Cintiq and I'm stuck in 1024x768 resolution b/c of my graphics card on my laptop...
Thanks! :) Mine is running its native resolution of 1280x800. I'm using mine with my desktop machine (which has the same videocard as my MBP laptop) is an nVidia GeForce 8600.
One thing that you could try, is disabling your laptops screen when you have the Cintiq hooked up, It might allow you to run it at a higher resolution, since it wouldn't have to drive both displays at once.
If you actually watch at the beginning and middle of the video, you'll see the song titles. ;) The artist is 'DJ Redlight' and his website ilnk is in the video information to the right --->
The Cintiq (and most other Wacom Tablets) come with Photoshop Elements. Which is like a Photoshop Lite version. Its by all means no less powerful, just less features I guess. I personally am using Photoshop CS3.
Yup, If you want to get the full Photoshop, its between $600-$800, but Photoshop Elements is like a basic version, and its about $99. (Comes free with Wacom Tablets.)
hey, if you press tab in photoshop, it hides your toolbars, giving you far more space on the 12 inches!

Wacom Cintiq 12WX

How is the calibration? On my tablet pc, the calibration sucks, I have to purposefully calibrate incorrectly, and there is still error toward the edges. Usually about 2 cm. It's tolerable, but i've gone back to using my graphire for drawing, it just feels more natural. Computer is good, though its my only one, and i bought it at a steal for $600.
Domiskinos 3 years ago
calibrations perfect on the 21UX, the 12WX SHOULD be about the same, but one can never be quite sure.
I514 2 years ago
Hey I just got a tablet and i was wondering how you shade... like i mean how do u actually do it not by showing i mean how much darker do u make the green and stuff?
Kentalish 3 years ago
sorry to be a bother, but I am considering buying a cintiq 12wx, but i heard that it has a lot of jittering problems....does yours?
just wondering....
sweetpriestesskagome 3 years ago
I'll be honest, Yes it does have jittery problems, more so towards the top and bottom edge for me, if you hover the cursor over the screen, or even rest it within the top 2 inches of the screen, it jitters about 3 - 4 pixels in all directions. So don't draw in the corners. :) But other than that, its definitely an amazing tool to draw with, and if you're not ready to fork out double the amount for one of its bigger brothers, the 12wx will be great for you.
quentinwolf 3 years ago

F0rgiven 3 years ago
quentinwolf 3 years ago
ohhh. Sweet. That's genius lol. Thank you for the reply =)
F0rgiven 3 years ago
you should use like magic wand to select areas, fill them and then just fix the edges with brush
XoPpPp 3 years ago
Great Tip, Though the main reason I didn't use that technique with this picture, was because of some of the large open-ended areas, and plus I just find it funner to color the whole thing by hand sometimes. :) Depends on how quickly I want to get a picture done that is.

How do you disable your computer or laptop to get the Cintiq working as the main screen? You know to possibly work in a higher resolution?
TheCoughDrop 3 years ago
Right click on your Desktop, click on the Settings tab, Your Cintiq should be the number "2" and your laptop "1", Click on number 2, then underneath the resolution slider, it'll say 2 options. First "Use this device as my primary Monitor" and second "Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor"
First of all, Click on "Use this device as the Primary Monitor" on the Cintiq, then click on the #1 monitor, and uncheck "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" that should disable the main one.
quentinwolf 3 years ago
hi, can you help me too. i so happen to read what you said to that other person "thecoughdrop", and i followed the direction, and did everything. but now i want to switch it back, i don't want to use the cintiq as an extendtion. how do i switch it back? before my laptop and my cintiq were both the main screen. now only the laptop is the main screen and the cintiq is the extendtion. so it means i can't do my work on it. i hope i fix this thing.
movinon20 3 years ago
You can't have two primary displays. One must be primary and the other secondary. Just right click on desktop --->properties-->settings and then from there in the drop down menu select your display of interest and near the bottom there are two options which are "use as primary display" and "extend my desktop onto this display".
hellobee666 3 years ago
Once you have your primary selected you can choose if you want your desktop extended over to the secondary also by selecting the other display in the drop down menu and checking the box next to "extend my windows desktop over this display".

Is that the 12WX? Just wondering cuz im looking into to replacing my Intous3 with one of these lol.....so much easier, its like actually drawing on paper or other mediums.
Kragoff 3 years ago
Yup, its the 12WX. :) Very pleased with it, it also replaced my Intuos3 6x8" (Its has about the same "drawing area" dimensions too, except its about an inch or two wider on each sides)
quentinwolf 3 years ago
maybe il get one, thanks

im 13 and and i have saved for 1.5 years and i have 794 aus dollas
i was wondering if ebay is a good place to buy? when its new and still in box
Gaia287 3 years ago
I'd only buy on eBay if you can find a really trustworthy seller... But you have to be careful, because if its not actually new, It might not have the full warranty. :)
You're more than half way there. Plus most sellers will sell the Cintiq for cheaper, but then charge $200 for shipping... If you can find a local store that would be best.
You could probably start off with a Graphire or Intuos if you want to keep saving towards a Cintiq (with the built in screen.) :)
quentinwolf 3 years ago
thx a mill ill check it out but i realy want a cintiq its just everything i well... want
it seems so amazing and i have saved for ages so im pretty excited
Gaia287 3 years ago
wow awesome job, man i wish i had one of those
i can draw really good but i dont have anything good to color my drawings with
xkeyblademasterx07 3 years ago
Thanks! If you can't quite afford a Cintiq, I'd definitely recommend getting either a Graphire (Pretty cheap) or an Intuos (Much more professional, and still about 1/4 the price of the 12wx Cintiq)
quentinwolf 3 years ago
Great video! Just curious...what resolution are you working in on your Cintiq? I recently got my Cintiq and I'm stuck in 1024x768 resolution b/c of my graphics card on my laptop...
What kind of graphics card do you have?
TheCoughDrop 3 years ago
Worth a try, Let me know if it works for you. :)
quentinwolf 3 years ago
Doesn't work...it sets it at 800x600 which is clearer than 1024x768 but it can't display 1280x800...
It's just my graphics card I guess...I have one of those sucky Intel ones...

nice, I'm stick with the bamboo because the crap country where i live, but i still hope and dream that one day i will buy a Cintiq!

quentinwolf 3 years ago
does the wacom cintiq comes with photoshop or do you have to buy it to use it ? and the program you are using to draw the dragon is it photoshop?
movinon20 3 years ago
The Cintiq (and most other Wacom Tablets) come with Photoshop Elements. Which is like a Photoshop Lite version. Its by all means no less powerful, just less features I guess. I personally am using Photoshop CS3.
quentinwolf 3 years ago
isnt photoshop like 600$
DezzVideos 3 years ago
Yup, If you want to get the full Photoshop, its between $600-$800, but Photoshop Elements is like a basic version, and its about $99. (Comes free with Wacom Tablets.)
quentinwolf 3 years ago
so u payed in all like $2000?
DezzVideos 3 years ago
Not all at once/at the same time, but yes. :)
quentinwolf 3 years ago
If your a student you can get it for like 300$ if you know where to look
untouchedninja 3 years ago
Yeah, Good tip! That's also a good option. :)
quentinwolf 3 years ago
OMG... that is 1/3 of the main price...
And do you know where is possible to get it at the 'student price'???
And I'm 16 and I'm from Croatia... so I don't know if this counts to get that...
If you can help, I would be glade...
