There are American and Canadian schools in most big cities in Japan. They are mostly for the children of diplomants, international businessmen, etc., that want their children to have an education that coincides with Western education, so it is easier for their children to adjust to their schools when they return to their home countries:)

@KandyHolikk It's her talking. What you probably hear is digital correction. They most like digitally fix her pronounciation. Like have for instance; She said Habe, but they fixed it. Plus probably gave her voice a bit of a american accent to make it sound like she has been speaking english for a year or so.

I think it's cute how you can tell she's not all that comfortable having to make do with English dialogue, so they gave her a minimal amount of lines in that first scene with her boyfriend. xD

like america military officers' children would go to a foreign school because they only speak english but still need their education.
