Haha. I started mine on Friday when my (guy) friend was at my house. And I we're really close, so I wanted to whine and like tell him about it, but I didn't because we like cuddle and stuff and I didn't want him to get all disgusted like somehow my blood was gonna leap out from me and spew all over him if we came into contact.
People would know for me by the way I wouldn't be at the freakin' gym. Mime are horrid though. I'm on Seasonique so I have to deal with it less often, but I still haven't gotten out of bed today, because I can barely move, and I'm suppressing the urge to scream.
The only way to tell is if you're really good friends with someone, and then you can sort of tell a bit of a difference in the way they act sometimes. Also, if they seem secretive when they're at their locker, or seem to be going to the bathroom a lot =P That's how people tell when I'm on mine. men are dumb!

@quemacha - perhaps you don't work in an office, but if you do, does every woman take her purse with her when she leaves her desk. But then at my office we wear the card key to our office and desk on a bracelet. I pass my key over my desk and the drawers lock. I guess not everyone has this.

Put your credit card in your bra, and attach your keys to your sports bra. Or if you have to have a purse, put it in your trunk before you leave the house, so no one sees you put it in the trunk when you get to the gym. Sheeeesh! Whateva! I don't believe I even responded. Dismissed!

2. look at her bathroom and see wrappers, applicators and stuff
and that's it. beyond that you are just playing with probability. where you take a wild guess and she is asked and she is on her period.
