Ok ppl baking has got to be the easiest fix for the graphics/black screen issue, i have a dv2700 and all i did was take out the motherboard but the only difference is that i foiled the entire board in 3 layers of foil and cut a square over the gpu chip top and bottom, then i put it in the oven for 9mins at about 350-400 Fahrenheit, on the bottom shelf. then i just opened the oven and left it for half an hour, reassembled and it fixed not only my graphics, but my DVD drive and Soundcard!!!
Reflow on DV series will not last long because of the alloy of the solder originally used. DV series failed chips should be removed and completely reballed with 63/37 leaded ball!!
Takes maximum 2 weeks and the grafic is one more time defectiv.
The only way is to set in a new Grafik - Ship Nvidia 6150 and change the northbridge.
Believe me - I`m the owner of 3 Compaq V3000, which are nearly the same like the HP DV2000
And I paid - until today - a lot of money for those bulshit repairs like this.
For an excellent repair you must pay about 150.- € ,cheaper will not change chip and northbridge, they are making a reflow or , a little bit better , reballing
Many chinese people sell Nvidia chips on Ebay. Those chips are faked chips!
Do not upload this like video because some people will do the same method as you then these people sell the notebooks then the notebooks will die again at the new owner..and so on...understand?
The Nvidia chips(6000,7000,8000 series and the Nvidia South bridges)are suffer the MANUFACTURING ERROR!NOT SOLUTION!!!!NOT SOLUTION!!!The Nvidia was made 5 million fault chips between 2006 and 2009.
The Nvidia did not made 6000,7000,8000 and South bridges chips after 2009.
The Nvidia problem is not BGA problem.Nvidia GPU failures caused by material problem.
Your notebook goes about 1-2months then die again!
Many notebook technicians thinking about one solution that replaced with a new one.

Seems pretty easy to repair - I have one extra question-I had same problems like others here ... black screen etc .... then I tryied to connect to external monitor ... turned laptop on and I went into BIOS settings, then restarted and nothing changed, no signs of display working, but even on the external monitor I got into same problem, needed to restart laptop cause black monito ... question ... does that means I can apply your repair system ? - until BIOS - pc is working on "own" graphic ?
does an external monitor work when its like this? i have lines through my dv2000 laptop display, but it works fine with an external monitor. could it still be the classic gpu problem in my case? i've heard conflicting information about whether this effects all dv2000s or just some of the nvidia chips.
hi rgere APSrepair. recently, my dv2000 screen was shattering and had multi screen. I know it was the graphic card problem, so ive used the heat gun to reflow it. It worked, but sometimes the screen went back shattering, but will be fix if restarted. but then again, i cant play any videos or it would completely freeze the laptop. do i have to rehead the graphic card like you did on the video? or is it a driver problem instead of the hardware itself?
obviously Hp laptops are made to last a certain time 2-3 tops then despose the unit. pretty cleaver for hp! its not the design look at their units many hp laptops has he same problems. on all their models LOL!!!!
isn't the reason why the screen stops working because of the poor / faulty nvidia mobile gpu chip model used in this and many other laptops? Wouldn't you need to un-solder and physically replace the gpu chip with another to REALLY completely fix the properly properly? Or are you saying that the fault is never the gpu, rather than the solder joints always going bad?
@desultorynz In some cases it is a faulty GPU, due to the GPU being damaged to constant over-heating. And in that case, the complete replacement of the GPU will be the only solution.
However, in this particular laptop, the GPU is still working, it is only the solder joints which go bad due to the high temperatures.
@wazamani Yes they will, it is due to the actual design of the laptop. So the fix will work for a while before the problem will arise again, the only way around it is to buy a different model of laptop which does not suffer from poor heat dissipation.
Not at all, it was a few seconds of testing just to see if the screen would turn on. Thermal kinetics would state that the chip will not be able to generate heat fast enough to do any damage.
sorry i followed your procedure. it worked but went off again. now i cant eve get it back again after trying the same procedure over and over again

wow you should commit a grave mistake by testing the unit without installing y=the heat sink on the processer or graphic card
