Give props to the Sega Cd cause it was way underrated. They were way innovative for the time they came out. Save for all the cheesy FMV games, they had sweet arcade games. Final Fight, Lethal Enforcers, Mortal Kombat, Silpheed,. The 32 X sucked ass big time though.
If Sony had followed through with the CD attachment add-on for the SNES, would they have even released the Playstation?
o_O scary thing to contemplate.. a video gaming world without the Playstation. Then again, maybe Sega would still be making consoles since they would've had less to compete with when they released the Dreamcast.
Genesis Does, you cant do that on Nintendo, Genesis Does, You cant do that on Nintendo, Genesis, Does, Genesis, Does, Genesis, Does, GENESIS, DOES, GENESIS DOES, What NINTENDONT!
Even though I have, and always will be a SNES person. I have to admit, 32X, even though it was a piece of shit, it was still better than the Super FX Chip
I guess it all boils down to the fact that some people have been condtioned to get a hard on for anything Nintendo and brush off perfectly good systems like the Genesis simply because they're not made by the big N. Have you found a new forum yet, 17days?
@aleckermit ehhh, unless you're talking RPGs, I strongly disagree with that. NES and SNES had a solid 20-30 rock solid titles and then nothing but garbage. Genesis, on the other hand, is comprised of hundreds of 7-8/10s. So, NES and SNES if fine if you want to play the handful of good games and that's it, but Genesis is better if you want an expansive library of options to play the exact kind of game you want. Pretty much like the Gamecube and the PS2.
@neogeon & aleckermit You're both wrong. Both the SNES and Genesis had strong overall libraries that were each stronger in a few areas. The people who think SNES doesn't have much beyond its RPGs and first party titles are just as wrong as those who think Genesis had nothing but Sonic. The proof on the SNES side is in my collection. I've got over 100 SNES games and the great majority of them range from solid to excellent.
I also have a fair amount of Genesis games (seventy-something), and most of them are also good. It's just that a certain group of SNES titles is well known to everyone (the Square RPGs and Mario/Zelda/Metroid) whereas the Sega fans tend to be more aware of the "lesser known" Genesis titles, which are just about everything not called Sonic. But the SNES has its own share of lesser known titles that are solid. They just get overshadowed the same as the Genny's non-Sonic titles.
MODE 7 means that the SNES has the power to rotate its graphics 360 degrees (For games like Mario Kart, F Zero, Pilotwings, Contra 3, and many others) It also means that the Graphics have the abillity to zoom in and out. Overall MODE 7 gives the games a 3D feeling that no other console had at the time.
And it all boils down to GAMES GAMES GAMES!!!!!!!!
Sure the Sega CD had a few decent games and so did the 32X, but overall SNES has generally better games.
Genesis had the better controller and console design but SNES whooped dat ass with the amount of games. Super Metroid, A Link To the Past, Final Fantasy III, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Mega Man X, Earthbound, Super Castlevania IV, Starfox, Super Mario Kart, DK Country, Super Mario RPG, Contra III, Secret of Mana.
yeah, seriously, at least nintendo didn't need a lousy cd add on to compete. plus, the games for the sega cd were mostly garbage, with the exception of Sonic CD, Snatcher, and maybe Night Trap. and don't get me started on the 32X...
compare mortal kombat on the genesis to mortal kombat on the snes , the super nintendo had better graphics the characters look like they're actually moving , the genesis version , the characters stutter . Even street fighter is better on the super nintendo , face it blast processing and genesis does is a bunch of bullshit , and why does ega try to bash nintendo know wonder sega lost the war against nintendo .
I think all together, the SNES was better. Better graphics, better sound quality, and more memory. The best thing about Sega is it's amazing drums and bass. The music may have worse sound quality, but the chip is still awesome.
@Zawicki1 ehhh, not really. The SNES could handle bigger sprites (which is debatable considering games like Streets of Rage 2 for Genesis and Final Fight for the Sega CD), but the Genesis could move them faster. Look at Gunstar Heroes for the Genesis processor "blasting" at full force. The sound was all in who was programming, Midnight Resistance will show you what the Genesis could do. As for more memory, this is also false, carts came in all memory sizes and maxed at about 4MB like SNES.
@neogeon and look at Donkey kong country for SNES it looks better then any Sega 32x/cd game. face it the 32x/cd add on's was a failure time to move on you can't live in the past man.......!
@METALMAN4Wii DKC was all pre-rendered. Technically, it was no more advanced than Super Mario World (other than the larger sprites). Look up "Super Donkey Kong 99", it's a pirate game for the Genesis with the exact same graphics as DKC. Granted, it plays like shit because it's a pirate, but it still proves the Genesis could do it no problem. The only reason it was an SNES exclusive is because RARE was a 2nd party developer for Nintendo (now they're with Microsoft IIRC).
@Zawicki1 Well, the music on BOTH the SNES and the Genesis are good, but I like the Genesis's more. I just love FM Chips more than Sound sampling chips, mainly because the music on FM chips have that grit and guitar like sound unlike Sound sampling chips. But on the other hand, Sound sampling chips are good for RPGs.
To all the haters and fanboys, I'll put it this way:
The SNES had wonderful sound and video capabilities, IT LACKS brute power and expandability through add-ons, although the processors on some carts made up for this the cost became higher
The Genesis has speed, expandability (CD, 32X) and decent sound and video capabilities what it's greatest strength was it raw CPU speed.
Overall the only the SNES was more technically impressive was that it was released 2 years afterward.
blast processing was a stupid name dreamt up by the marketing team to emphasize that the processor was twice as fast as the SNES. I think if they would've just said that, they would've been alot better off. Essentially, the Genesis was capable of much faster sprite movement than the SNES, which can be seen in games like the Sonic series, Gunstar Heroes, Contra Hard Corps, and many others (especially exclusives).
The SNES has a Siemens processor that means Siemens is a German company that is why Genesisgames look like shit and Motorola is from the US that means German shit is always better than American shit even though both of these video game companies are from Japan, and if Sega use Siemens chip instead Motorla chip then they will be even and that is why a couple of Sega games have shitty graphics because Nintendo sue a Siemens processor that is why SNES has better graphics.
that is the biggest pile of nonsensical textual diarrhea I've ever seen. First of all, the SNES had a custom Ricoh processor, and the Genesis had a TWICE AS FAST Motorola 68000, one of the most versatile and respected processors of all time. The graphics had nothing to do with the main CPU, but rather the graphics producing chips. The 68000 walked all over the Ricoh POS in terms of grunt power. Gunstar Heroes could not have been on SNES.
OK well sorry about that BS well on part 2 I say that Sega has great games though I thought that Nintendo uses a Siemens processor but a Ricoh well in other words the SNES games compare to some Sega games let say NBA Jam has better graphics on the SNES than the Genesis version the cool thing about it you can play 4 players.
The Genesis has been with stiff competion with SNES always but at least their are some great games on the Genesis have you played NFL, 94.
1. so I could get close enough to the magazines that you could actually read them at youtube's shitty resolution/compression
2. I never said it was Star Wars...That's a Sega logo that flies to the background. The Terminator segment is really the first segment of the video, showcasing some great Sega ads from my old GamePros while I drive a joke into the ground about Arnold being in the video. The Star Wars intro gives the back story for people that didn't grow up in the SNES/Genesis era.
you forgot to mention the snes' amazing superFX2 chip which developers put into the cartredges of some games to make 3D graphics without an add-on, just pop in the game, whether it's doom, yoshi's island, starfox, or someother ones, and play!
but SuperFX and SuperFX2 chips added significant cost to the cartridge (Doom was about $90 when it was released) and didn't hold a candle to the 32X in terms of capabilities. StarFox used the original SuperFX chip, btw. Doom is practically unplayable on the SNES due to the abysmally slow and clunky gameplay whereas, though rushed, the 32X version is very smooth and responsive.
did you play it on a real SNES? the controls feel like you're yelling them out to a robot before it gets to the console. So stiff and unresponsive, blech.
@neogeon yes I played it on SNES before it broke and the controls felt fine for me, the 32X versions controls were a little bit better although half the levels are missing and the music sounds terrible on 32X
I have 75 SNES games and 106 Genesis games (not counting add-on games). While I will defend that the Genesis had more capable hardware to the death, they both had an unbelievably high number of fantastic games. 2D hasn't been nearly as good since. This video is making up for all of the years I hated on the Genesis because I thought I was supposed to. For some reason when you're 10 you just go with what people tell you rather than your own judgements and at the time people all said SNES.
If you notice, you get to see an assload of vintage GamePro Sega ads in the first half, then a brief FACTUALLY CORRECT history for the young uns. Don't think of them as intros, think of them as non-verbal segments.
The 32x and mega cd are where the rot set in, poor 3rd party support vastly overpriced the genesis alone is the winner being supported right up to 1998

Super Nintendo all the way baby!!! Only the 1st 2nd and 3rd sonic games were good, nintendo had mario star fox Donkey Kong Country series zelda and metroid!!! Some of the best games ever made and didnt need all the stuff sega had on their system!!! :)
yeah.snes had all the thue games that you mentiond and a thue more.and that's it.
i could tell you haven't had the experience with the geneis then you have had with the snes just by your comment. if you think all genesis had was sonic, you shouldn't be judgeing or compareing it.
bad adds (wtf a sex joke lame)and i think that comic right there is what started mario to get angry at sonic, we need a mario vs sonic game that actually(olympic games game sucked from what ive read) doesnt suck ooh like lets see like how mario vs wario was.and the videos epic tho, robocop vs terminator is a good game
that comic was a fan drawing in a Gamepro. Nintendo and Sega were rivals because they were in direct competition for 16-bit systems of that price range. The NES was too old, the Neo Geo was too expensive, and later systems like the CD-i and 3DO were just largely ignored by developers and were also too expensive. PS3 vs. Wii vs. 360 is no different, with fanboys on all sides, though we all know PS3 fanboys are the only *correct* fanboys.
Oh yea, and i was going to get a 360,but most people i know always get that red ring of death bullshit. can't microsoft gett off ther lazy ass and fix that?.
oh really? funny I do console repair at Play N Trade and every goddamn revision of XBOX 360 has come in with RROD. Maybe you should update yourself, bitch. When Microsoft stops using X-clamps, THEN we might see some XBOXes that won't RROD.
If you go into the Wii Browser settings and delete the cookies, that should fix most the memory error problems, as the memory error problems tend to be down to there being too many cookies to source to. Granted though that some webpages may take a second longer to load after doing this.
The CD add-on wasn't crap, the problem was the game developers, FMV my ass, they had new hardware with a faster processor capable of so much more and they had to screw it up just because they could use FMV, the games should have been designed like Sonic CD, imagine if that was made with FMVs??? THAT WOULD'VE SUCKED. I blame the developers, not SEGAs engineers
play "The Red Zone" on Genesis, it has textured 3D polygons during gameplay without any additional chips. search for a youtube video and skip to the on foot missions.
I think that depends on a persons perspective, both consoles have AWESOME games, I actually never owned an SNES because in my country they were almost nowhere to be found, but the megadrive was everywhere, and I loved it. the Snes is also great with the Final Fantasies, zleda and metroid games, I wont say mario because... I never was a big fan of marios :S I think the game is just good, but not OMFG THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER, like some people.
nope streetfighter 2 closed the 2year headstart sega had on nintendo pretty much every one I knew in highschool sold their genesis to get a snes & sf2
The Genesis version was superior if you had the 6 button controller. It played more like the arcade version. The snes version only had better graphics.
that was because of Nintendo's choke hold on Capcom's balls. Trust me, I have both the SNES and Genesis versions (and grew up with the SNES version) and the Genesis version is better. Its all about the gameplay dude, and the choppy SNES just doesn't cut it compared to the buttery smooth Genesis.
Umm.... Who gives a fuck which is more powerful? Isn't a video games console about the actual games? SNES games: Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Chrono trigger, Kirby. Just to name a few. genesis: Sonic? lol.
Sonic, Streets of Rage, Comix Zone, Gunstar Heroes, Mega Turrican (way better than Super Turrican), Mega Man: The Wily Wars, Outrun, Ranger X, Ristar, Vectorman, Skitchin, Strider, not to mention much better arcade ports of Street Fighter II, Final Fight (Sega CD), NBA JAM, and many other games you've probably never heard of. Chrono Trigger and Donkey Kong Country are good, Kirby is OK, but Metroid and Zelda are way overrated. Once you play Genesis you cant go back to the slow and stiff SNES
32X doom sucks so bad and we all know it the sound sucks the controll sucks and hafe to levels are gone. and all the FMV games blew accept for a couple
I think the 32X version had the first 2 chapters and the SNES version had the last one as well. It doesn't really matter though, you'd never get that far without wanting to shoot yourself because of the terrible control in the SNES version.
its not like Sega is the same people it used to be, I would be willing to bet that about 90% of the employees have changed from 95 to 2006 (when that new sonic game came out)
Why did you make that as a reply to my comment of "Sega rules". I know Sega dose not make consoles any more. I have not been living under a rock. I have the last Sega console. And the ones before it.
I know, they both suck! Sega knew when to quit! (actually the Sega of today is just a moniker, it holds no real meaning, all the good employees left years ago).
Because u only need to play 1 tenth of the library to know how inferier it was compared to the SNES Nintendo had zelda metroid mario and many other great calssics
the beggining with the maggazines reinds me of mario galaxy (p.s. nes is the domanation of all nintendo systems and theres probably not another system in mankind that can top it)
Give props to the Sega Cd cause it was way underrated. They were way innovative for the time they came out. Save for all the cheesy FMV games, they had sweet arcade games. Final Fight, Lethal Enforcers, Mortal Kombat, Silpheed,. The 32 X sucked ass big time though.

note i meant a game THAT doesnt suck for got to add (that).
thorgrim103 2 years ago
bad adds (wtf a sex joke lame)and i think that comic right there is what started mario to get angry at sonic, we need a mario vs sonic game that actually(olympic games game sucked from what ive read) doesnt suck ooh like lets see like how mario vs wario was.and the videos epic tho, robocop vs terminator is a good game
thorgrim103 2 years ago
that comic was a fan drawing in a Gamepro.

I was then and always shall be a Genesis fanboy.

didn't the genesis come out in 1989?
stewie17 3 years ago
yes, and sonic came in 1991. Ironically, the Genesis didn't get big until about the same time the SNES came out.
neogeon 3 years ago
what magizene was that in the intro? Its awsome! Anyways, NICE VIDEO!!
n64dude2 3 years ago
It looked kinda like Sega Visions magazine
jdigitalseven 3 years ago
kk thx ;)
n64dude2 3 years ago
no, its all Gamepros from 94-95. Its a combination of ads and previews.
neogeon 3 years ago
I like both
Genesis becuse of it was the first console i've ever played on and has a great library of games.
SNES it has better sound and also has a great library of games.
But i think i'll go with the SNES just becuse i like Chrono trigger and Zelda :)

I hate my Wii web browser!!!,
The DAMN thing keeps on showing a stupid memory error for no reason!
WWKN 3 years ago
If you go into the Wii Browser settings and delete the cookies, that should fix most the memory error problems, as the memory error problems tend to be down to there being too many cookies to source to. Granted though that some webpages may take a second longer to load after doing this.

lol mommy what are those 2 sega machines doing
tray99998 3 years ago 2
I enjoyed the Terminator theme for the intro :D
dawgchyper91 3 years ago
The CD add-on wasn't crap, the problem was the game developers, FMV my ass, they had new hardware with a faster processor capable of so much more and they had to screw it up just because they could use FMV, the games should have been designed like Sonic CD, imagine if that was made with FMVs??? THAT WOULD'VE SUCKED. I blame the developers, not SEGAs engineers

kojima's snatcher and lunar were the other ones that were good

The only reason snes won is because of donkey kong country. It had to use graphix to win.
bigl240 3 years ago
play "The Red Zone" on Genesis, it has textured 3D polygons during gameplay without any additional chips. search for a youtube video and skip to the on foot missions.
neogeon 3 years ago
I think that depends on a persons perspective, both consoles have AWESOME games, I actually never owned an SNES because in my country they were almost nowhere to be found, but the megadrive was everywhere, and I loved it. the Snes is also great with the Final Fantasies, zleda and metroid games, I wont say mario because... I never was a big fan of marios :S I think the game is just good, but not OMFG THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER, like some people.
VoidKeeper 3 years ago
I agree
bigl240 3 years ago
nope streetfighter 2 closed the 2year headstart sega had on nintendo pretty much every one I knew in highschool sold their genesis to get a snes & sf2
skywarp187 3 years ago
The Genesis version was superior if you had the 6 button controller. It played more like the arcade version. The snes version only had better graphics.
bigl240 3 years ago
the genesis version superior? maybe if the volume is off & your tv is black&white
the snes version of sf2 launched in june/july of '92 jap/usa & helped the snes sell a ton of unit's xmas of '92
the genesis version of sf2'special ce launched in october of'93 2 month's after the snes version of sf2 turbo
skywarp187 3 years ago
Like I said the graphics are superior but the gameplay isnt.
bigl240 3 years ago
that was because of Nintendo's choke hold on Capcom's balls. Trust me, I have both the SNES and Genesis versions (and grew up with the SNES version) and the Genesis version is better. Its all about the gameplay dude, and the choppy SNES just doesn't cut it compared to the buttery smooth Genesis.
neogeon 3 years ago
Umm.... Who gives a fuck which is more powerful? Isn't a video games console about the actual games? SNES games: Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Chrono trigger, Kirby. Just to name a few. genesis: Sonic? lol.
Link4587452 3 years ago
Sonic, Streets of Rage, Comix Zone, Gunstar Heroes, Mega Turrican (way better than Super Turrican), Mega Man: The Wily Wars, Outrun, Ranger X, Ristar, Vectorman, Skitchin, Strider, not to mention much better arcade ports of Street Fighter II, Final Fight (Sega CD), NBA JAM, and many other games you've probably never heard of. Chrono Trigger and Donkey Kong Country are good, Kirby is OK, but Metroid and Zelda are way overrated. Once you play Genesis you cant go back to the slow and stiff SNES
neogeon 3 years ago
The battle continues to this day? The battle's been over for 10 years!
Link4587452 3 years ago 2
OMG the Cd and 32X sucks hay Genesis ask what games it had and then keep talking! the CD and 32X had nothin!
lbgamer2 3 years ago
32X: Kolibri, Knuckles Chaotix, Space Harrier, After Burner, Shadow Squadron, Metal Head, Doom (better than SNES version by far)
Sega CD: Terminator, Novastorm, Sonic CD, Silpheed, Snatcher, Popful Mail, MegaRace, not to mention quite a few GOOD FMV games.
Watch the montage in Part 2 and keep talkin.
neogeon 3 years ago
32X doom sucks so bad and we all know it the sound sucks the controll sucks and hafe to levels are gone. and all the FMV games blew accept for a couple
lbgamer2 3 years ago
Half the levels arent gone the snes only has a few more
Thepaddster 3 years ago
I think the 32X version had the first 2 chapters and the SNES version had the last one as well. It doesn't really matter though, you'd never get that far without wanting to shoot yourself because of the terrible control in the SNES version.
neogeon 3 years ago
the snes port had me wanting to shoot myself for many reasons mainly the fact the enemies are always looking at you
Thepaddster 3 years ago
Sonic was only good on the gen. Now he just sucks.
sffgvcb1 3 years ago 2
exact.
why sega put him on ps3 and made a gay game for him is unknown
koolkosma 3 years ago
its not like Sega is the same people it used to be, I would be willing to bet that about 90% of the employees have changed from 95 to 2006 (when that new sonic game came out)
neogeon 3 years ago
Sonic Adventure? Sonic Advance?
Link4587452 3 years ago
I forgot those. Sonic adventure was alright.
sffgvcb1 3 years ago
I can agree with that...I think the last sonic game I really liked was sonic 3 and knuckles.

Sega rules.
sinistermoon 3 years ago
SEGA Eventually dropped out of the console race. But just look at nintendo with the wii and ds
yomyma2 3 years ago
Why did you make that as a reply to my comment of "Sega rules". I know Sega dose not make consoles any more. I have not been living under a rock. I have the last Sega console. And the ones before it.
sinistermoon 3 years ago
I know, they both suck! Sega knew when to quit! (actually the Sega of today is just a moniker, it holds no real meaning, all the good employees left years ago).
neogeon 3 years ago
also, the snes has better games
eggers15 3 years ago
wrong
neogeon 3 years ago
actually right.SNES Does have better games
(Not hating on genesis by the way)
yomyma2 3 years ago
how can you make such a broad and unsupported statement? I guarantee you haven't even played 1/10 of the Genesis library, so how can you say that?
neogeon 3 years ago
Just face it. The SNES is way better and you wouldn't know until you played it as much as you did Genesis. =(
ShihnaFujibayashi 3 years ago
I had an SNES since 94 and have only had a Genesis about 6 months, so remind me again which one has gotten more play?
neogeon 3 years ago
Because u only need to play 1 tenth of the library to know how inferier it was compared to the SNES Nintendo had zelda metroid mario and many other great calssics
lbgamer2 3 years ago
I think it has a better RPG library than the genesis did. But I still like both.
JmanRBS 3 years ago
avgn one is better, snes, is better
