  • what happened to this beautiful altar when St. Andrew's was closed?

  • This recording is AMAZING! I just melted in my chair...

  • And the Orthodox complain about "unitaism..." Hypocrites..

  • @GBVrallyCI To be "Uniate" would mean that these people were forcibly converted to Orthodoxy with the help of the Polish army...as the Ukrainians were forcibly converted to Uniatism...oh, and the Roman Catholic church would be an illegal religion as well, as the Ukrainian Orthodox was in places of the unia. The operative word is "forced" conversion; Western rite Orthodox willingly became Orthodox.

  • If it makes those who do not accept a western rite in the Byzantine Church any happier, this parish has closed.

By the way, the altar in the most ancient of liturgies, the Syrian, looks very much this one..hardly one would suspect from the14th century...is there something about the 14th century that is evil for the Greeks?

    For Subdeacon John Dutcher:

Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord: and let light perpetual shine upon him.

  • What is the differance between the Western Orthodox Liturgy and the Tridenitne Liturgy?

  • If you go to the St. Andrew's webpage, click the "media" tab and look for the "2008 Clergy Symposium Workshop Paper" - you will find an answer beginning in the 1st paragraph on the 6th page.

  • And one more thing: God bless the hands that made this beautiful altar!

  • Thank you so much! My husband was very sick with cancer when building this. He passed away just a couple months after finishing the altar for St Andrews. He truly loved God with his whole being. May God grant you many years for your kind heart.

  • "My husband was very sick with cancer when building this."

May God receive him in His Kingdom!

Memory Eternal! Memory Eternal! May his memory be eternal!

+Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetuam luceat ei!

    +Requiescat in Pace!

  • By the way, good people of St. Andrew Parish in Oklahoma city, welcome home!!!! Welcome home to the faith of your fathers, to the Church established by Christ and His Apostles, and sustained through time by the Holy Spirit. May the western rite liturgy deepen and sustain your prayer life, as it has done mine. You have a beautiful altar upon which the Holy Mysteries will be celebrated. Don't let detractors take that joy away from you.

  • carolking, please forgive me, but this "east good, west bad" rhetoric is a bit tiresome and adds nothing to the discussion on eastern and western litugical distinctives. I'm sorry, but I don't see how this "fourteenth century" altar contradicts any aspect of the Orthodox faith. you make this assertion, but without backing it up, setting up straw man arguments. These good people have found the faith once for all given to the saints, in a form blessed by our bishops. Let's not be so pharisaical.

  • Thank you again SBDthom responding to her.I don't answer rhetoric and meaness. carolking can't see the beauty thru the ugly thoughts. May God open her eyes and heart. GOD is good!

  • the very type of altar you show at the beginning of this video has no historical precedent before the 14th century and is entirely associating post reformation western christianity with orthodoxy.

  • Do you know of any WR parish that uses the Gregorian liturgy exclusively and that offers Latin Mass? I have doubts regarding the rubrics and breviaries that are used by the WRV. May the Lord bless your ministry.

  • St. Mark's Orthodox Church in Denver uses Gregorian Rite for weekday Mass, St. Tikhon Rite on Sundays and the Latin Mass on Saturday mornings.

  • Dear Fr. Is your parish part of the Antiochian Western Rite Vicariate? What liturgy do you use? The one of St. Gregory or the one coming from the Anglican Church? I like the Old Latin liturgy very much.

  • Rite Vicariate and located in Oklahoma City. Currently, we are using the Liturgy of St. Tikhon. Many parishes use both and some even incorporate the Mass in Latin.

  • The WR churches DO use the ancient chants. Please attend one and find out. Why do Eastern-rite Orthodox Churches have different styles of music? To be authentic, does not mean we must do liturgical archeology and keep our expression fixed in the past. The Church is a living organism. Even the iconostasis is post-Schism.

To be an authentic Orthodox Christian is to live and preserve -the faith once delivered to the saints.

  • Why do Western rite Orthodox Churches always use Russian Polyphony instead of ancient Western chant like Old Roman, Ambrosian, Gregorian Chant?

I think the western rite has a long way to go to be authentic... Though we can admit God very merciful and is less concerned with the details as long as we are there for prayer this is the biggest concern for the moment. :)
