  • You guys do such awesome work very inspiring for us newbies wanting to get our feet wet in filming productions such as this. One thing I've always been curious about when watching and learning from the concept trailer is how you guys pick your angles? Is it something completely intuitive in nature, something you picked up in film school or rather a skill you learned by watching heavy hitters like bay and spieldberg?

  • @cosmicraider1 well thanks for your kind words. Feedback like that inspires us to keep going. Regarding angles, I think we've tried to learn from the masters. We watch films all the time and "dissect" the coverage to see how its put together. That would be my number one tip. We didn't go to film school, but have learned a lot from our mistakes - eventually you do start to get a "gut feeling" of what will work and what wont - but we still have so much to learn!!!

  • @cosmicraider1 If you really want to learn cinematography from the Masters, search youtube for "Cinematographer Style (1/6)" uploaded by 2handsdanny - absolutely amazing documentary and a must watch if you really want to learn.

  • Happy new year guys! :)

  • @MsKDKproductions Happy New Year to you!

  • Wonderful, just wonderful work guys. Very in depth might I make one small suggestion, instead of using a regular fog machine there is a certain smoke machine called Haze Machine which sprays out a mist of smoke in the air and it won't create that cloudy smoke look but it does bring out that beam coming from the light.

  • @Filmaker92 Great advice. Never used a Haze Machine myself, but you're spot on they give a much more even effect.

  • must be awesome to have a brother share the passion for film making as you . you guys are the coolest

  • @rkshow4 haha thanks man, it can be interesting! we both think along the same lines so we don't have many creative differences - which is handy :D Well, we're here to share that passion with you too, so keep us posted as to what you're making.

  • Very good advice, thank you. :D

  • @Subverttech4 :) cheers

  • What lenses did you use? I'm buying Cannon 600D in few days but just the body. I want to find good but cheap lenses for beginning :)

  • @BizBony I'd say the Canon 50mm f.8 :) Great depth at field at such a low price!

  • @Trampathon such a lovely lens. Gotta love that shallow dof look.

  • @BizBony we used 3 lenses - a Canon 50mm, a Canon 18-55mm kit-lens and another longer zoom (but can't remember what exactly). My advice would be to get a zoom. The 50mm prime was great but didn't give much flexibility. A zoom is a real workhorse and ideal for all sorts of coverage. A lot of people swear by Primes (and they do produce lovely images) but zooms are so good now anyway and much faster to work with. (But that's just our opinion, everyone has their own style)

  • This excellent stuff guys!

  • @flyingfisbeefilms thanks for your support mate.

  • Did you use the 50mm f 1.4 lens?

  • @DriftingStudios we did use the 50mm for a lot of the shoot. we also used the 18-55mm kit-lens zoom as well as another longer zoom (but can't remember what exactly)
