That deleted effect of Karras tweaking out going between him and Brad and what looks like his withered corpse is so scary! If left in that would have scared the crap out of me!
One of the great underrated horror films to come out in the last twenty years. Exorcist III: Legion is really the only worthy film in the series as a sequel. Done by the original author of the first Exorcist, you get the feeling he was doing the best to give audience the feel of original and IMHO, I think he got it. Scary, suspenceful to the end, and that hall way nurse scence, chelling. There are too many to count to write down, just watch out for the old lady.
This movie is a classic, stands alone as a great horror film, independent of the original Exorcist. Besides any movie that has cameos by Fabio and Patrick Ewing is a winner.
BTW, elvampiro89 is an anti-semetic bastard who should be shot dead.
I love movies like this that really explore the full range of the characters. This is by far one of the best I have seen in a long time! Seeing it for free was even better! 9 7 m o v i e s. c o m love being able to watch on my schedule!
this i believe was the scariest movie of all time, saw it when i was 13 didnt know it would border line traumatize me. the scene in the hospital with the guy in a white sheet still scares me.
I am a 44 year old man and have seen hundreds of horror films during the coarse of my life. This movie, to this day, can still scare the hell of me. There are images in this movie that are terrifying.. Done so well!! The Exorcist is a classic. And this is a truly worthy sequal. Tho its technicaly the third part in the series.
Rent (or buy like I did) this one and the original. Exorcist 2 was a waste of time and effort that didn't follow Blatty's novel at all. It wasn't scary; it was stupid.
This is one hell of a horror movie, they sure don't make 'em like this anymore. I can think of at least three scenes that still make me jump every time. Criminally underrated and underappreciated (probably due in part to Exorcist II which sucked total ass). If you haven't seen this, do so! You won't regret it...totally worthwhile
I enjoyed EXORCIST III. Its detective drama about serial slayings is more polished and cerebral than, say, SEVEN. George C. Scott is a harsher, more cynical Bill Kinderman than the kindly Cobb version, a man exhausted by inhumanity. Someone said Scott received the Razzy Award for his performance. I think Scott's depiction of Kinderman is a lot more nuanced than just "ham growling" if one takes the time to really explore and experience the movie. A great sequel to a great horror masterpiece.
I think it was intended more for disturbing imagery and recognizing an evil presence than anything related to the actual plot. I read the novel Legion that the movie was based on and I don't remember that scene being in it.
This film is one of my favorites. I really enjoy watching the first film and this one back to back. I'm happy to see so many people loved it as much as I did!
i got it on tape ,the darkest film i ever saw ..the first is a classic of course ,i sadly can't choose between this one and the first but there's no nead to ,they are both really good ,the second one is strange but fair ..exorcist:the beginning sucked ...but hey ...just my opinion huh :)...the suspence was missing ,fuckin' hollywood
My auntie took me to see this in the theater when I was 9 or 10 years old. I told her no movie can scare, but this fuckin movie had me so scared I didnt sleep for 2 days, LITTERALY.
Nice trailer! I think people were willing to disregard anything with the Exorcist title after the travesty that was "The Heretic." This one is so underrated with its perfect downbeat atmosphere and sharp dialogue. I love it just as much as the first.
William Peter Blatty, William Friedkin and Linda Blair noted their negative responses to the sequel. Blatty said: Amazingly bad. Extraordinarily bad. Friedklin said: It was horrible. It's just a stupid mess made by a dumb guy -- John Boorman by name, somebody who should be nameless but in this case should be named. Scurrilous. A horrible picture."
Linda said: The was one of the big disappointments of my career."
yeah..this film is soo good as the first..of course in its own style. It is very perfect combination between a horror movie and a detective drama, not to mention the charcaters dialogs..they are remarkable!. Glad someone shares my review.
I want to see this movie...since I heard there were five exorcist movies (I don't know if five or more) I've wanted to see this one...T_T and I don't have it...
It's a good movie. Not nearly as good as the first one (no horror film is in that class) but it's definitely worth a look. You'll probably end up buying it. I did
Yep five! The Exorcist, The Exorcist II:The Heretic, Exorcist III, Dominion The Prequel To The Exorcist and Exorcist The Beginning. The last two are basically the same movie, just different directors and a bunch of reworked scenes when compared to each other.
Yes Springloadedchiken, those stairs are still there!I've been in Washington DC last year during my summer holidyas and went there to see the place that chilled my bones, great to see the stairs and the house with my eyes!
i've walked those stairs.. didn't fall, they were in severe disrepair. that was 16 years ago though. i'm unsure are they still there? nevermind, good movie. hear it would've been great if the extra materials weren't lost? ??? always with the lost stuff.
I guess Jason Miller (Damian Karras) wasn't in this originally but the production company or something like that insisted that he was in it. So they finally got Jason miller to be in it (maybe he wasn't interested-I don't know) and added it into the movie.
I find this trailer should have been included on the DVD package. The trailer which is included is very lame. I am a fan of this film. It is the real "sequel" to "The Exorcist".
This one is better thar the first, I jave seen the first and this one and it was cool. I knew of this, some scenes in wich the original Father Carris was, but Brad Dourif is better
Very underrated. Obviously the first Exorcist movie is a classic but I've always thought this this 'sequel' wasn't given the acclaim it deserves. If anyone is a fan of The Exorcist then I would really recommend you watch this - especially for the scene with the nurse! :o
I agree Sati! This film is one of the most underrated films in cinama history! George C. Scott delivers a haunting performance. Love the dark colors and unique camra work. Very spooky score as well. And who can forget the creepy "dream" scene. If u people haven't seen this one, see it!! This one and the original are the only good ones of the series in my opinion. The new one blew ass!
You're right. The new one (directed by Renny Harlin) was a complete joke! It shouldn't even be considered a part of the 'Exorcist' series. I bought the prequel directed by Paul Schrader, but it's still not particularly good.

The whole exorcism in this film was tacked onto a much more restrained film.
All the sequences with Nicol Williams were added by Morgan Creek against the directors wishes.
The unused material here was material so out of keeping with the original film that Blatty managed to keep it out of his film.
It didn't stop the suits from sticking it into the misleading trailer.
