This was a fairly good field. Timber Country, who ran 4th, was the 94' 2 year old champion and would go on to win the Preakness. Afternoon Deelites, while never developing into the superstar many thought he would be, did go on to win the grade 1 Malibu and run 2nd in the Met Mile. Jumron would run 4th in the Kentucky Derby while Petionville and Lake George would be stakes winners, with Petionville becoming quite a useful stallion. Unfortunately, Larry was injured before the Kentucky Derby.

His humble origins as a $2,500 purchase, and amazing will to win appealed to alot of people. Before the SA Derby, a large crowd gathered around Larry in the paddock/walking ring, with many screaming out words of encouragement. After the photo declared Larry the winner, the place erupted.
