@Ciccone1231 From what I seen on Travel Channel show it using the data from the last launch to measure how hard to launch the next train. So the last Launch was from the night before, when it was warmed up. I hears the best day to go and try to get on roll back is when its gusty winds from the tail or front of the train. It tends to screw with the computer.
In the moring i run to Top thrill dragster and if u c a kid about 12 years old that is meh and i try to b 1st in line but single rider 2 is always 1st >:O
@dylanflute The storage tracks are part experience part team work. One person jog's the trains forward, and the other person tells them when to stop. And the transfer track its self (The part that moves side to side) the sensors on it automatically stop the train in the right position for the transfer... Make sense?
@dylanflute Yes, ride ops actually operate the transfer tracks, we are in control of moving the trains forwards, and backwards on the transfer tracks, as well as moving the track from the main track to the storage track. Such a fun thing to do.
@WeSufferAndDie The green things on the track are called "Proximity Switches" and they simply tell the computer where the trains are at on the track. These are what help avoid trains crashing into each other.
@coastermania17 They do not act as sensors for the special effects. The effects are actually controlled by the ride operator. The ride op must push a button which turns on the special effects. The ride op must also push a button which causes the "Arms Down" to play.
@thrillrideseeker Thanks, I see that here in Texas aswell..When I went on ttd, the really made me wonder what they are, I see them at the top of the titan.
I actually work on an Intamin Hydraulic Launch coaster and rollback testing is done regularly. In order to intentionally rollback, i.e. to test it, the last section of magnetic brake fins on the launch track are left up, taking away speed from the train and therefore causing it to not go over the top hat.
@coasterroads1 I am not sure if you missed the memo, but I operate Top Thrill Dragster, and I assure you that the Rollback son Top Thrill Dragster are NOT done regularly, they are simply results of the ride not launching with enough force for the train to make it over the tower. No sense in arguing.
@thrillrideseeker I'm not saying that every Intamin Hydraulic Launch coaster (like TTD) is tested for rollbacks. I was simply saying that rollbacks are tested regularly on the one I work/supervise. Also, I was just stating how a rollback is intentionally performed on the coaster I operate.
First, there is NO way to MAKE a train rollback, it simply happens when the ride is not warmed up. IE: Today when the ride was testing not a single train rolled back. Second, they do not check the brakes.... They are fail safe.
Fail safe? Look at what happened to the brakes of king da ka. Yes the ride is not warmed up when they launch it but they CAN adjust the speed of the launch to make it rollback.
Look... I know this ride like the back of my hand, and they can NOT adjust the speed to make a train rollback. However there is a launch boost button which will launch the train with more speed, but they are not allowed to do this with riders aboard. As for the brakes... Yes... They are fail safe. There is NO way anything could happen... Its just NOT possible.
I promise you I know this ride way better than about 99% of people on this planet. As for the "Fail Safe" Dragsters copper alloy fins can not fail... they are magnets... when was the last time you heard of magnets failing? It just doesn't happen. As for every train launching at a different speed... thats NOT true... Dragster does not weigh the train to decide what speed to launch it at. The ride launches with the same force every time... Thus resulting in rollbacks.
I know they're magnets but if there is one thing I know it's that everything can fail. For example if the mechanic that raises the brake after launch doesn't work then there will be no brakes to stop it if it rolls back.
King da Ka uses a computer that weighs the train and changes launch speed and it still has rollbacks.
Ok... This is going to be my last response in this argument. 1.) The brakes are fail safe... They do not need air pressure to be raised, they need it to be be lowered, so in the event of a power outage the brakes automatically go up. Second they are on a timer, so regardless the brakes will raise after a set amount of time. They can not fail... Trust me, it just can not happen. As for Ka... Ka does not weight the trains either. The speed is based of the speed of other launches. End of story.
Thrillrideseeker is 100% right except for the speed can not be changed, they dont change it in the morning or ever for that mater but it can be changed by changeing the hydraulic presser in the motor, now im not saying that this can be done it automatic mode or by a ride op but it can be done.
ok u r wrong about the brake fins. They are not on a timer. The brakes rise everytime the train passes through a set of proximity switches which tell the brake fins to rise up in case of a rollback so the train slows down safely
it rolledback lol

That must be fun!! Do the sensors help with parking the train on the transfer to move, or is that something that comes with experience?

@WeSufferAndDie The process of transferring all six trains on to the track takes on average about 15-20 minutes. Its a slow going process.

You probably know the ride better than me but just because something is "fail safe" doesn't mean in can't fail.
btw the launch speed is different every launch because a computer calculates the weight of the train and decides what speed to launch it.
