@JapanSocietyNYC Well I'm not sure if you'll respond, so anyone can help me if they see this post.

I am very interested in Japan. I know much about Japan. I try to understand Japan. I have heard of this true story. I didn't know that the movie was lunched in America for a short time. I want to understand this Incident better, Can you help me? Can I buy this DVD somewhere? Japan seems to always take action in their beliefs no matter what.......wich in some way is brave, but no always just.

@SeanShannohan In the 60s and 70s, Japan was was having its first brush with capitalism, after WWII and the fall of militant nationalism. Meanwhile, communist ideas were coming in, specially into academic circles. This movie is about the Asama-Sanso incident from 1972 when a group of students who were in the URA fled to the mountains for a purge. Members who didn't measure up were tortured and killed. Police was sent to resolve the situation but only made it tragically worse.

@saveusmilkboy Thank you for helping me understand better. I have found a few more movies on this incident. It seems unbelievable to me that this incident happened only two years after The Mishima Incident. Saying that I do understand that both subjects are some what of a taboo to talk about in Japan, so thank you very much.

@SeanShannohan a pleasure. it's not really a taboo anymore, but because there was no dialogue about it, students born after 85 don't know a thing about it (i study in japan and this is my experience. of course there have to be exceptions...).

Mishima is rather better known but not taken seriously by anyone anymore. the Japanese are very careful to distance themselves from any kind of radicalism, specially political and religious. thus the shock caused by the Sarin poisoning 1995.

I have talked to a few Japanese Citizens that have told me that many do take Mishima seriously as a political topic and each view varies depending on who you are talking to though. I can imagine that many don't take him seriously too though. Well I think I can understand why the 172 incident would not a be highly recommended topic in text books, but still......Love talking about Japan. Would it be cool to message as "Friends?" ha

if you have seen banquet of the beasts this is kinda like a mellow version of it , it tells the story before , during and after the asama sanso incident, this movie is very good
