I can never decide which is my favourite Perfect Strangers or Shooting the Past. You feel like you've been run over by a train after watching Poliakoffs work, amazing thought provoking and deeply moving stuff!!!
I heard a few years ago that they had to change the title to "Almost Strangers" when this aired on BBC America so that people wouldn't confuse it with the sitcom.
An amazing actor. I really want him to be a big star across the world. Why the hell are other less good british actors carving up all the work. Its so annoying.
Toby Stephens is playing one of three siblings in this. He is attending a large family reunion with his sister Rebecca where he meets Daniel (Matthew MacFadyen). Daniel reminds them a lot of their dead brother - the lost sibling so to speak. Before this scene, Daniel has revealed to Charles that he knows about his dead brother. Charles and Rebecca both feel that his death is their fault to a degree so it stirs up a lot of emotions and their fassades begin to crack. Does this help?
Thanks radiotikk - trying to post again since last post didn't get through... why do Charles and Rebecca feel it was their fault that their brother died?
Their brother developed a mental illness which made him an embarassment to the family. They didn't know how to deal with it so they gradually excluded him from events, meetings, everything really. Then one day he walks onto railroad tracks and is hit by a train. It's never said explicitly but maybe they feel that could have saved him had they spent more time with him....rather than just "dumping" him for being crazy.

Maybe this kind of 'mobile chat in the toilets' scene suits Toby better than Shakespeare

Can anyone explain what's going on in the scene, and why he's so upset - never saw the show before.
