ok... so all this considered, he's still not including that, in some scenarios, at&t activation is based purely on ur credit score. unless ur fortunate enough to have a cosigner, bad credit will also lead to a $500.00 PER LINE activation fee... making it more like $1147.00...... what it all comes down to is this:

You forgot about text messages. The original iPhone's plan included 200 SMS messages. The iPhone 3G will not, instead charging $5/mo for the feature. That's another $5*24 = $120!

The iPhone 3G is no different than any other smart phone in terms of the carrier.

The extra $10 makes it $30 per month not including the 200 SMS...where have I seen that before? OH SNAP, it's the same for ALL AT&T SMART PHONES.

MobileMe isn't required. MobileMe is required for instant syncronization...before MobileMe, there was no way to do this besides Exchange...so Apple adds a feature that's never existed and you're saying it's the only way to get that? Well, DUH!

I already have .Mac/MobileMe so it's not an added cost and it does work with Gmail Push and Microsoft Exchange at no added cost, so that part isn't true. Maybe they are getting $10x24 months more for the "data" plan and calling it the cost of 3G, but that I can stomach. What I really would have liked to see is something on rate plans, as I am happy with mine and don't want a more expensive one for the same minutes just because they went up and you have to sign a new contract. AT&T doesn't know

Here's the thing. Compare the price of the iPhone and the cost of the $30 data plan to your old BlackJack and the data plan for that. What is the price? When new, the BlackJack was $199 with the 2-year signup subsidy, and the unlimited data plan was $40. So how bad is it compared to the other phone competition. Compared it to the price of the nicer Blackberry phones? Or wouldn't that make good press? :(
