I used to feed my cat Sassy Special Kitty (the dry stuff) and stopped after I heard this. Luckily she didn't get sick but I never trusted it after that and still refuse to feed her that. I know it's late but sorry to hear about your cat.

Melamine is in the food supply of the world, including the United States.
The food our children are eating. Of course a child has a much more complex digestive system than a small pet, but it's still causing kidney stones and it continues to accumulate in the body over time. It will lead to kidney failure and cancer.
I believe Ranger our cat was also killed by this food. We fed it to him the day before he got sick. He was my boyfriend's baby and he would buy him Special kitty for a treat. Ranger was 8 months old when he died and was never sick before that day. He died in the same way so many other animal owners affected by this recall describe.
Do NOT trust ANY large commercial pet foods. Do your research. Corporate greed killed and sickened these pets. We still DO NOT HAVE THE TRUTH. It's NOT melamine, which is relatively harmless, so don't believe the FDA's spin. My dog died and my cat has CRF. Condolences to bbendis & family.
It was from chinesse wheat gluten. This kind of thing is going to keep happening until the US stops importing ingredients from foreign countries. Especially china were they can do nothing to regulate the quality of the products they recieve. I am very sorry for people who have lost pets. And you cant hold the manufactuer responsible. Its not like they purposely sold Cat and dog food that was killing animals. Do you seriously think anyone would sell something to kill thier clients come on.
This is so heartbreaking. I found that biscuits I'd given my dog were tainted after Walmart had signs all over the store insisting that they were not. I've also had tainted peanut butter and spinach. Nothing is safe anymore. I'm paranoid every time I buy food.
Thanks to the corrupt totalitarian mainland chinese communist government in China, toxic food has seldom be checked. Every year, there are many food related poisoning in Hong Kong. We are badly affected and yet the world does not know!
Just an example, the freshwater fish from China is known to carry an excessive amount of malachite green which is a carcinogen! Most sea food contain heavy metal because of industrial pollution.

($6000) and has been home for a week. his newest blood tests show he is getting worse. i don't have much hope left. too sad that so many families are going through this.

It was China, hun. China is refusing to allow VISAs for the FDA to enter the country and inspect their manufacturing plants. The Chinese added 'melamine' to their 'gluten' products to artificially elevate protein level readings. Other contaminated 'glutens' from China are showing up in other countries as well.
The FDA needs to make certain that menu foods never manufacters any pet food in fact no food at all!! Their negligence has murdered many animals! I was informed that the Human Society alond had lost 12 cats and dogs and the count is on! My Dog died on St Patrick's day I called Menu foods and they just give me the run around and I am still waiting for a form!
Update: Our report came back from Iowa State University and it revealed that she had a type of crystal substance in her kidneys, which means that she was poisoned. We are awaiting further results to see which substance this is.
please understand it probably wasn't a neighbor or anything who poisoned her.. it was the pet food itself. there are many saying the FDA is WRONG blaming the wheat gluten. Many independent labs found poison in the food!
