As much as I do agree with you about society being closed minded. It does not help the helmet design, and many of the symbols used are evocative of WWII era Germany. I believe that much of the imagery is intentional. The black on red triad, as opposed to say black on purple. If you were to compare uniforms, the similarity to the Wehrmacht to Helghast is uncanny.

While the ISA uniform would have some similarities to the Bundeswehr.

It also doesn't help that in terms of comparison. The nation of Helghast is a fascist one, and aesthetically they do not resemble the Mussolini-era Italy, or Imperial Japan. Now you could argue they are similar to the fictional 'Norsefire' of V from Vendetta fame, but they too drew inspiration from WWII era Germany.

Now, I do sympathise with you, that it resembles other conflicts in many ways, but I'd like to know which ones in question you would say it resembles?

Vietnam, Gulf war, Iraq, WW2... take any war you want. You'll find many comparable things. That's what it makes authentic. All the essential things that represent war, like cruelty, hate, disrespect for human dignity etc., are inclued in this video. Ask a vietnam veteran! He'd say "Yes, this could be Vietnam". Or ask an old WW2 Soldier. He'd say "Yes, It could be 1942".
