My uncles back in WWII defeated alot of Japanese officials in duels and have live to tell their story.....So many different systems and styles through out the archipelago.
kalis i know, to scrape or to strike with a slash like manner (bisaya)... but to say kali like kalibutan... ka is the prefix for the root word libutan, so with libangon, ligo.an and so on and so forth.
kalis with an "s" means to scrape, or to strike in a slash like manner, the word itself means to scrape, but the word "kali" does not have a meaning in the bisaya language.. i don't know why they just call it kali and not kalis.
@kit2ng219 k...i was jking...im a bisaya myself...
:D
and my aunt has this visayan=english dictionary w/c i think is rare...im now in melbourne...i came from cebu until 19yr old.... :D and what so funny is i found the dictionary here in melbourne in my aunt's place...Lmao... although thanks for telling me though..!~
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! FMA makes me so proud to be Filipino. We need to teach more people about FMA because it is not as well known as the Japanese and Korean arts, but FMA should be just as popular and widespread. It is awesome!
Cebuano ko, gnhan unta ko mkahibalo ani, mytag "age does not matter" ui... 21 yrs old nmn ko gud...naa dri australia, gnhan ta ko inig uli mkahibalo aning kali.

leoangelomarquez, i agree with you that arnis is not a stick or baston it is simply a filipino martial art system. I would like to clarify something regarding "kali" and "kalis". here in Negros, "kali" means "to dig". While "kalis" spoken with the accent on the last syllable means "to scrape". And i think the title is somewhat misleading and not proper.
it doesnt matter what the title is. If everyone wanted exact titles for every movie they watch; SPIDERMAN would be "the masked man wearing a red&blue suit covered with web-like designs, who climbed up walls and shoots sticky white slimes from his hands, doesnt look spider enuf cause spiders got 8 legs-the movie"
OK, this is a Filipino language discrepancy thing... Kalis is a long knife, but I've also heard the origin of the word as a contraction of the term "hand and body motion" in one Filipino language, and even as "Silak" (silat) backwards. My GF's Filipina and I remember the first time I tested my "Filipino" vocabulary. Apparently "hu bud" doesn't refer to "tying and untying" in Tagalog... LOL
in tagalog hubad means take of your clothes but in bisaya no. yong langam nga sa tagalog gamagapang pa. pero ang langam sa bisaya lumilipad na.hehe! malaki ang pagkaka iba ng tagalog at bisaya.
i like the video nice effort, but i just want to reiterate something, kali came from the word kalis that means a sword, and arnis is not a stick or baston arnis is simply a martial art system, tnx!
Thank you for your comments and ineterst in our documentary! We're currently in the process of finalizng the porject and should have it ready sometime next month. If you would like more info you can also visit www.bloodsport.com

Kali means.. "Hand Movement".. not scrape!..
KaLi comes from the visayan word. "Ka = Kamot and Li = Lihok .
Kamot = Hand
Lihok = Movement..
