  • was this the 80's???

  • @sonic10shadow I'm afraid so :)

  • There's too much mullet per square foot.

  • This plan was sooooooooooooooo stupid. I remember some of the shows over 20 yerars ago and it did not work. The idea was stupid. The music was interesting, though.

  • Simon Fuller (co-creator of "American Idol" ) had been planning to do another Monkees in the '90s/early New Millennium.

  • I love Dino the Greek

  • @EffLabels .... and Dino loves you!!

  • The first Monkees tribute band.

  • @shortymeems Didn't they reference that in the opening of "Daydream Believers: The Monkees Story"?

  • If they get together again would it be the New New Monkees or the New and Improved Monkees? I just say more cowbell, and More Monkees.

  • I know one of the applicants. He told me a long time ago that he tried out for the show. Now I know for sure, he was telling the truth. Thank you for posting.

  • Larry is cute

  • OMG, those hairstyles and fashions are hideous! Anyway, unlike most Monkees fans, I was willing to give these New guys a chance. I even bought their album on cassette, and I still have it somewhere. However the TV show was not on any stations we got so I never saw it. In fact I never saw any video of these guys until now, thanks for posting this!

  • Larry+INXS=Love

  • I actually think a "new TV series for the eighties" would have been a success if they would have hired a 1980s new wave band from LA called The Three O'Clock instead.

  • @crazysingingchick it really made me happy, alot of musicians wouldnt do that. He's a really sweet man, I added a copy of my autograph to the Peter Tork fan page on facebook =]. My school is trying to make plans for next year in the fall, the only reason he couldn't come was because my principal said no,

  • They Just Werent The Monkees... They Werent Monkee enough to be the monkees... you know what i'm saying?

  • HA! anyone else see taht interview on the today show (in the 80s) with three of the real monkees? where mickey laughed his ass off after hearing this, saying that tis is the most stupid idea ever! the guys even said that it wasnt the concept that was a big hit, it was the combination of the four guys on the show! duuuhhh! no wonder this never got picked up lolz

  • Certainly now a piece or pop music history, but now, more like fodder for a "Where are they now?" series. Everyone remembers the original Monkees names. Not so sure about The New Monkees.

  • These guys could have had a good show under a different premise, but what made "The Monkees" was not the concept. It was Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, Michael Nesmith and Davy Jones.

  • I respect your opinion, Dolenz, Tork, Nesmith and jones were very carismatic, but the one who made them famous and composed the songs for them was a producer called Don Kirshner, besides, the only real musician in the band was Nesmisth, unfortunately, when they decided to become independent, that was the end of the Monkees.

  • Dont forget Peter Tork, an accomplished instrumentalist in is own right... But anyway, yeah, there were quite a number of people involved in making the Monkees show what it was. Thats a fair point. I just feel that lightening doesnt strike twice, at least not in the same exact spot.

  • Well, dude, but at least we still enjoy them and we know that even when most of them weren't able to play their instruments when they started they soonly became wonderful musicians and could play their intruments live, I love the Monkees, but they made a bad decision when they left their producer and rejected the super hit "Sugar, Sugar"

  • @killingracists Your facts are not straight... Boyce/Hart and occasionally Carole King and Neil Diamond penned their songs, along with Nesmith, even in the beginning. All four boys had a musical background - 3 of them played guitar. Peter Tork is well learned in almost, if not every instrument. Nesmith is not the only real musician in the group. Don Kirshner had little to nothing to do with the auditions - they were done by the creators of the show.

  • @crazysingingchick Hello...you might be right in some aspects, but the one that surely has to get his facts straight concerning Don Kishner is you; he was "the Monkees Brian Epstein"; without him the guys sank like "Titanic", cos even when they became songwriters, their fame faded away almost instantly . Go and get real information about it, and then come and start debating with me!

  • @killingracists Kirschner still didn't audition the boys. The main reason that their fame "faded" was because people want to see them as a group, not as solo artists. Another big thing which, unfortunately happens a lot in showbusiness is that they all got kind of pigeonholed as merely "manufactured" so that no one took them seriously. The more they tried to prove the truth about their abilities, the less people wanted to listen. Kirschner's decision to stifle their creativity ruined them.

  • Larry Saltis can run circles around ANY boyband then/now!

  • monkees like bananas.

  • Have they released recordings under a different name?

  • not a bad idea, but it obviously bombed. a few songs on the album were good. Too bad it didn't take off. "The Monkees"is and was a great idea

  • Not bad. If they didn't call themselves "New Monkees:" or Monkees in general, I probably would've watched it more. Ain't nothing like the original.

  • The Monkees and The New Monkees are night and day, totally different from each other. The only thing they had in common was that damn name and they both had a TV show! I get tired of people comparing them, different time and era. If it wasn't for me being a hardcore Monkees's fan I would of never discovered The New Monkees. I thought I wouldn't like the NM when they came out, but I was pleasantly surprised that they were actually very talented and unique and nothing like the original Monkees.

  • do these guys still hang out together?

  • Yes, may Allah and Buddah also bless the 'Real' Monkees,... who in turn were the 'Fake' Beatles :)

  • At least they weren't called "The New Beatles"! Oh, and I guess all the other guys from England with moptops in suits and electric guitars were fake Beatles too.U.S. same thing. Even Bob Dylan started spoting a suit and went electric.EVERYONE wanted to be like the Beatles.A different time altogether. But "New Monkees"? Get real.

  • They Monkees were not called "The New Beatles" because they were, as they put it, a manufactured image for, now this is the key factor, for a Television show. Thus, "New Monkees" were named after a Television show. I'm not saying that that makes it right. I just don't think we should be comparing The Monkees to The Beatles and certainly not Bob Dylan. If you think The Monkees 'became' a group in their later years (e.g Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart) ... that's cool. I'm down with that.

  • I was certainly NOT comparing The Monkees to the Beatles or Bob Dylan! My point was The Beatles influenced the whole culture of that day, including the creators of The Monkees.

  • luvmerseysidered...What's your deal man? Why does this matter so much to you? Jealous you weren't invited to the party? It seems you've become obsessed with slamming the NewMonkees. Give it a rest bro. You are not earning any life points here. The show was what it was. It hurt no-one. In fact it was a pretty cool event for all those involved. Again, you know not of what you speak. Have your opinion, that's fine. It's just getting old. No one really cares what you think anyway.

  • Slamming?First you call The Monkees fake Beatles then question luvmerseysidered, then get pissed when she answers!-then block her! LOL You're right, I couldn't care less except you need to be fair. BYE-And I DO mean BYE

  • Who are you responding to whiteneswhateverspursfan? I'm hoping not me cos you got yer signals crossed. READ THE POSTS FULLY BEFORE COMMENTING...It helps to be cognitively aware of what's being said in order for you to be able to form logical responses. I blocked no one...Yet you seem in your rebuttal to be replying to my post. And yes...BYE!!! ANd let's hope you do mean it.

  • Hi,I've been following this discussion, I did READ THE POSTS FULLY, between this vid & "Davy Would Want New Monkees?"vid, poegeorgeringo,Decay 1966 and yourself, you were doing what whitesnspursfan said.I do think luvmerseysidered shouldn't have even said anything,if she had only negatives to say...Please don't be angry with me,I think ALL the Monkees old & New are cool, this kinda thing just saddens me.

  • I agree completely Amen! :p

  • The guy at 2:19. Was that a very young Matthew Perry?

  • I agree with Hammrocks that this show was fine. At the time, the show was hammered by the media and some of the Monkees (original) themselves. These guys were as good as anything else at the time in the 80's but the show was never given a chance.

  • I think all of the peeps making comments are forgetting that in the late 80s there were remakes of all sorts of shows. What's Happening Now, The New Gidget, etc. These guys were good and the show was never really given a chance. Don't compare it to the original, view it as a stand alone. Your opinion might be different.

  • I saw the originals in the 60's as a kid, I really LIKED this show as well, was lucky enough to watch it and tape most episodes . . . but then lost them from a storage unit :(

  • love the original and this looks good too.

why are people closing their minds ?

    paul

    australia

  • I didn't really think Jared was really that funny. But, I agree with LadyFireSprite...they shouldn't have been called the "New Monkees". I'm not surprised that they didn't make it to the big time...not because they aren't good, or didn't have what it takes...but because way too many people were comparing them to the old Monkees...and expecting these guys to be the same. That was kind of a major stumbling block right there. A shame, really.

  • @witchums I liked this show, and I am a HUGE 2nd generation original Monkees fan. I agree that Jared wasn't the funniest, but I sure thought that he was hot. I am a sucker for the rockabilly look. :)) I agree with your post.

  • Easy RUB. You can have your sixties Monkees. Videos are posted for people to enjoy, and there just so happens to be a group of people that enjoy the New Monkees videos that have been posted. Even though there are videos that people post that don't suit my fancy, it doesn't mean I need go around leaving 'negative' comments for the people that took the time to post the videos. But that's just me.

  • @decay1966 Right. So you basically admit it sucks.

  • @AtmelInAtlanta the 747 was at about 33,000 feet when it started to violently shake. Suddenly, one of the wings ripped right off the fuselage and the plane began a downward spiral towards the Earth -- now THAT SUCKS!

  • I'm glad these NM are uploaded. They are fun as the guys seem to be (the producers should have used a different name, nothing w/ Monkees in it). I did watch the show some back when it aired and even taped a few eppies as it was aired at an awful time like 2:00 in the morning or something. I got into the music some but didn't buy the album. All the big hair, wow... memories. The lone NM OOP CD is a collectible, check out the prices on eBay.

  • It's kind of a relief that twenty years later no one knows these four but plenty of people remember the real Monkees. This was SUCH a bad idea and an insult to the Monkees and those who worked on the origianl show, but at least it proves that they were genuine enough to not be overshadowed by a crappy '80s remake. Also the 60s were SO much better than the 80s!!!! (born in 93, but still). Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Michael Nesmith were SO much better!

  • Are you really 'relieved' that no one knows these guys??? I find that kind of strange, Beth. Did you also stress over the fact that Britney and Kevin got a divorce?? Or that Paris went to jail?? Stop poo-pooing on other people's postings. I don't really care for THE JERSEY BOYS, or HERMAN'S HERMITS. But that doesn't mean I have to disrespect others that do like them AND take the time to post clips.

  • I believe people are being rather hard on the ''new monkees'', the producers had a right to ''revamp'' the monkees concept because of ownership of the monkees name.

Remember ''the Supremes?'', that group went through several personel changes after Diana Ross left, which was permitted because MOTOWN owned THE TITLE ''SUPREMES''

  • i heard they will be coming out with a new version soon called the monkees deep space nine

  • monkees new generation? back to the monkees? the new monkees strike back ? return of the monkees?

  • The monkees 2 - eletric boogaloo

  • Funny, but no comparison to the original boys. I love the original boys and understand the concept of this remake. They just don't seem to have the same sort of chemistry the original guys did. *shrug*

  • You can't just view this one clip and say that they don't have 'chemistry'. That's like someone reading 'About me, Elle Knight' and critiquing your writing. Check out some of the other clips,... I'm sure you'll get a chuckle. They'll never 'replace' the Monkees,.... and they weren't supposed to. It just is what it is :)

  • No, they could never replace them. They do have their own sort of goofy appeal and I do appreciate that. Their song is not bad either (in part 2). They are definitely funny in their own way. It just seems to me that they don't need to be called the New Monkees. They could have been something in their own right, too.

  • I agree whole-heartedly.

  • I don't think the 80's SHOW was created to compete with the 60's SHOW. Different times, different era.

  • I was one of the few Monkees fans who loved the New Monkees back in the day...I had SUCH a thing for Larry...he was from my home state and he was so freakin' hot!

  • How do people not appreciate how very awesome this is? I'm dying here. Dying.

  • Has anyone shouted 'MULLET!' yet?

  • I miss watching 'The New Monkees', I like the original Monkees too. I also have New Monkees LP, hope to find their CD & DVD or Video (favorite song - Do It Again). Larry's my favorite, he's also formed a band call Tower City with T.P. Weiner & Heath Saltis (favorite songs - Hot Water & Fire With Fire). I don't have anything by them yet either. I'll have my chance. Thank you! And more supporting with NM & TC.

  • okay let me re-phrase what I said. I have seen enough Negative comments about how this show was a mistake...it's not I liked it and so did alot of other people....and they probably agree with me when I say that we are tired of those types of comments

  • I can't believe there are people defending the attempt to create "The New Monkees!" I'm a big fan of "The Original Monkees" and I think this whole attempt at "The New Monkees" was terrible. I actually thought I might have imagined that this happened until I saw it on Youtube (I was actually happy to find this clip because I knew I didn't hallucinate the whole thing.) Anyway, just thought I'd give my 2-cents. I'll move on to the other Monkees now.

  • I am getting a little bit pissed off at the negative comments left on these pages....This individual was nice enough to put these videos on YOUTUBE for people like myself who DO remember these guys. This person thought that there were some people out here who remember the show and thought that they would like to see some clips again. No one is twisting your arm to see the whole video clip....If you hate it that much then click the mouse button and WATCH SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!

  • So lame how they try to recreate Mike and Davy's screen tests with these duds.

  • On the contrary, my friend. With this piece from 1986, it seems as if the producers were creating something that America would later learn to love called 'Reality TV'. You know, open auditions, singing and playing instruments. With all due respect, I'm not trying to get you to like them,... I just want you to be informed when forming an opinion. But then again, you know what they say about opinions :)

  • ZZZZZZ.....

    Nope. Don't remember this.

Probably was too busy watching the 'real' Monkees show.

Thanks for posting the video! I heard about this show,

but never believed it till now...whoa...

  • So remember this lol...it was on tv for all of like month then disappeared! Great seeing them again...but not even close to original. Then again I suppose that's why they were labled The "New" Monkees.

  • I was taught to say what I like and dislike as I was taught to LISTEN good and bad comments.Sorry 4 the shit word( shit =don´t like/bad)

Thank God the real and old(new generation)monkees are still in our minds .

  • First and foremost, thank you for teaching me the actual meaning of 'shit'. And with all due respect, I LISTEN to educated critiques. What I don't care for is uninformed/uneducated opinions spewed out by viewers who feel that it's their 'right' to spread NEGATIVITY. (to be continued)

  • Let's say that I didn't like little terrier-type dogs (for the record, I love all dogs), but let's just say that I didn't. Would it be nice for me to go to everyone's channel that's posted videos of their terrier-type dogs and 'comment' on how I wished that a large Doberman Pincher would float down from the heavens and grab all terriers and rip them to shreds?!? What would be the point in me doing that?? There wouldn't be a point -- it'd be pointless!

  • Logically, I wouldn't watch any videos that starred little terrier-type dogs. Like I said before, I'm not posting videos to sell viewers anything. If I was trying to 'sell' you something, you'd have all the rights in the world to tell me why you don't want to 'buy' it. But fortunately for me, I''m posting videos for people that do like the New Monkees. Take a look at some of the other videos I've posted,....maybe you'll like those :)

  • Don´t be negative decay,its not your style :)

I love terriers specially Scotish terrier ones .

  • I WATCH because I didnt know there were "new monkees"

Its only a comment man, dont take it as it was your life man!

anyway a like the "new generation"

    TAKE ALL TYPES OF COMMENTS

PS) DONNY OSMOND AND OTHER VIDEOS ON MY CHANNEL IS FOR MY FAMILY..........

  • I, myself, avoid NEGATIVITY. I was taught that "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." I respect that you took the time to upload videos for your family, and I uploaded videos for a group that enjoys "New Monkees". As for comments, I accept them, but you should also think about the people you offend when you call what they like "Shit", that's all I'm saying.

  • what a heap of shit these guys they STINK

    GOOD VIDEO.

  • Thank you for your response, BUT if you don't like what I've posted DON'T WATCH. Just because I don't care for The Bay City Rollers or Donny Osmond doesn't mean that I should go around spewing my opinions because someone out there probably does appreciate them, plus you know what they say about opinions.

  • Holy shit, is that Randall?!

  • the monkees were an anomaly!!!

a corporate creation that took on a life of their own!

    the same force created them....

    took them apart...

    and then THIS monstrosity!!!!!

but i hear it was a big hit?

these guys are still famous right?

when do they have their reunion?

  • Are your questions rhetorical?

  • Sorry, this is sacriligious! In 1986 I was 12 yrs old so I am a 2nd generation Monkeegirl but damn! NO ONE can replace the original monkees!

  • With all due respect,.. The Monkees were doing pretty good for themselves, so I don't think anyone was trying to 'replace' them. I think someone just figured that rather than a 12 year old girl having a 'crush' on 50 year old men, they would offer a new TELEVISION SHOW as an alternative. Whether it was right or wrong, it's not for me to judge, But that Larry sure was cute!!

  • This was during the big Monkees revival in the 80's. When I was 6, I had a crush on the dude with the blond mullet but hated this show because it was NOT the Monkees I was used to watching on Nickelodeon.

  • It's on DVD? Where can I get it?

  • Jesus Christ, I am glad I was not eighteen in the mid-eighties. It is the work of a just and righteous God that this affront to his creation has faded into obscurity.

  • Geez,... ya had to go ahead and bring Jesus Christ AND God into this, didn't ya! Well might as well bring in Allah and Buddah to the party too!

  • I liked the show..only 13 episodes...have on DVD...too bad nothing else

  • i cant beleive i actually auditioned for this

waited in line for 6 hrs in august heat at s.i.r. studios in nyc---i was like 21----got 3 call backs though---lame

  • Good grief, look at that hair! Bad 80's hair if I ever saw it!

  • This show had a lot of cool and innovative things going for it . . . my friends and I were original Monkees fans and loved this show. They made two big mistakes. Calling it The New Monkees (BAD idea, although I know they were trying to generate interest on the tail of the Monkees revival) and having it syndicated at 7:30 p.m. after Punky Brewster. Wish there had been more episodes!

  • Ain't THAT the truth.It really was a good show,I thought,very innovative,and different.

  • They should have picked Michael Nesmith's son Jason who auditioned for this! Bummer that they didn't -- it might have gone somewhere.

  • The rumor is that they did want Jason Nesmith for this, but his daddy said this or college. Lucky for Jason he chose college. It would have been better if they hadn't named it the new monkees.

  • My best friend and I were THEIR BIGGEST FANS in 1987. And then we found Depeche Mode.

  • Being a fan of the original Monkees, I boycotted this back in the 80's. Watching it now, I realize it isn't half bad. Not as good as the original but not bad; the boys do have talent and are cute. I agree that if it had been called something else it may have had a chance. Dino reminds me of Tré Cool of Green Day, not in looks but in attitude.

  • I wanna know WHAT happened to the guy who auditioned with his rendition of Paul McCartney's "Let 'Em In"!!!

  • He probably has his own hit reality show now! :)

  • It's so 80's!

  • Fun, mixture of documentary-style and entertaining as well. Want to seek more of these. That hair is sooo 80s =0)

  • Excellent! Hmmmm??? Now why did everyone think that American Idol was such an original idea?
