What were you compiling the clips with? If it's Sony Vegas or WMM (Vista), I can guide you through how to do it.

Ah, well, when you start a new project, make sure the frame rate is high (one of the two 50 + options) and the pixel aspect ratio is square (1.000).

After you compile the clips, rendering in default template will expert the video exactly as is, aspect ratio and size-wise. If you want high quality (and not HD), you'll have to make the size of the video larger (this is done in the new project settings). HD is selectable in the rendering screen, and the 1080 ones are widescreen.
