@buzwazfuz If you're asking what country has no history of war then obviously the answer is none, it's one of the constants of mankind. But the United States is unique because of their attitude towards the rest of the world. Well not really "unique" more like "pretentious".
@scottbotics The truth is that there is not a country on the planet that does not exist as the result on a conquest or revolution. The nation dedicated to peace at all costs will eventually be conquered by another nation that feels differently. It is a never ending circle, so I can't disagree with your observation, entirely. It is what a nation fights FOR and what the victors DO with their bounty that counts because the fight WILL come - like it or not. :-(

@SrslyLeeroy Among the sources, ministers at four of the churches Washington often attended wrote that he never took communion. Rev. Dr. James Abercrombie, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, in Philadelphia, related a story in which Washington said he was never a communicant.[13]
^ Abercrombie said an unnamed person, who he thought was a U.S. Senator, told him that Washington, in recounting the incident of Abercrombie's sermon reproving him, said he had never been a communicant.
@SrslyLeeroy No Washington was NOT an Atheist. However, he was not a Christian either in the traditional sense. He was a Deist which was very common during the Enlightenment. He didn't take Communion because he didn't want to be a hypocrite.
@SrslyLeeroy Of whom do you speak? Washington? No, he didn't speak of a faith in Jesus but rather often of "Divine Providence." Yes, he believed in a god, just not Jesus. When you said, "That sounds very likely as well," were you there agreeing with me that if Jesus were alive today he wouldn't approve of modern Christianity? I happen to think that as a Jew (who likely was real and lived as a mortal man) he would have been disgusted over the idea of people worshiping him as a god.
@MrGoodatheist Well, I am agreeing with you now about Washington.
And you are right about some of that, Jesus wouldn't approve of most modern Christianity. A lot of the things he taught have been misunderstood, and a lot of Christians are not living by his teachings.
I do not think that Christian is a loose term in any sense. It means the worship of Jesus. Now, there are other issues at play here. I believe that Jesus was a loyal Jew and he was human. Thus he would be disgusted by the worship of himself as god. However, any Christian would believe that he IS god and thus wouldn't agree with me. To me the Religion of Christianity is pure faith and no evidence. I see no reason to believe anything in the bible but if you believe it more power to you.
@SrslyLeeroy george washington was not a christian he was a deist. he believed that god existed but he did not interfere with earthly life. well that is sort of my belief too:) some say thomas jefferson was a deist but others say he was probably an atheist.
@ultradumbass Incorrect again. He was not a Deist in the traditional sense. He participated in church events and prayed often. He prayed for guidance and support. He swore his oath on a Bible. He was, like most of us, a Christian who was not orthodox in his beliefs.
@Timasion no this one i am positive that you're incorrect, since you obviously don't know what deism truly is. i am a deist yet i sometimes go to church. in fact i use to be a church alter server, that doesn't make me a theist though.
@ultradumbass I am unclear how you make that assessment. Based on what I have read on Deism, Geo. Washington does not meet the criteria. Simply, he prayed for divine guidance; something that a true deist would not do.
A Deist believes that God would not take an active role in the happenings of man. By asking for guidance, Geo. Washington was asking for divine intervention.
As I stated, based on the evidence, I don't think he was devout, like Adams, but he was definitely a Christian.
@Timasion wrong deists do believe a creator created the world. deists though don't believe that god interferes personally in this life. meaning you can pray all you want but if someone is coming to kill you, praying to him won't matter while you're still alive.
@ultradumbass I'm not sure how my assessment is wrong. I essentially repeated what you stated. Deists believe God does not personally interfere with with individuals.
So, if Geo. Washington was a Deist, why would he ask for God to personally tell him what to do?
@Timasion he never asked god to tell him what to do. and god is still judging his actions whether he interferes in this life or not. history makes political leaders look more religious than they really were simply because it gives their countries a better image.
@ultradumbass I know of at least two instances where Geo. Washington specifically asked for guidance. Once before the Battle of Trenton and once at Valley Forge. According to eyewitness accounts, he asked for God's intervention in the Battle of Trenton. At Valley Forge, he asked for Divine aid for the Country.
@Timasion he may have been hoping that theism may have been true for that brief moment. just as thomas jefferson openly considered himself an atheist yet he always based his laws and philosophies on the bible. many atheists sometimes pray in times of danger and some religious people can become atheists after something bad happens.
@ultradumbass Thus, my assessment of Geo. Washington. He wasn't particularly religious but he did believe in God and thought God could impact people's lives. Like many of us, he wasn't devout but he did consider himself a Christian.
He was not like Thomas Jefferson at all (in a variety of areas).
@SrslyLeeroy Communion is a Tradition of Men. Traditions of men is something that your Jesus spoke against. However, your religion, Christianity, is all about Traditions of Men. You have your keeping of Christmas with your trees and presents, your Easter with your eggs and bunnies, your Dogmas and your Creeds. If Jesus was real (and I think he was though there is no proof) I highly doubt that he was approve of modern Christianity.
@MrGoodatheist Well, Jesus did speak against tradition of the Jewish church (ie: Circumcision, Animal sacrifice ect.) But he did instruct us to take communion, and although it is not necessary to take communion, it does help us remember the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made.
Also, a lot of Christians are against the entire "Santa/Easter Bunny" kind of thing.
And don't even get started on the nativity scene...
Come on now. You know that Christianity is all about traditions of men as well as dogmas and creeds and SO MANY things that are not in the bible only. I find it hard to imagine how any Christian can claim to be "bible only" when that is clearly not true. Christianity is all about traditions of men which Jesus of the bible spoke out against but yet Christians still embrace it all.
washington was a great leader and unifier, but his greatest flaw came on the issue of slavery. That said, he embarked on the amzing task of creating a new republic with ideals different from the old ones.
why it is undeniable that GW owned slaves, there's a reason. Our country was VERY vulnerable after nation was formed. Anything that could split North And Southern states apart could be catastrophic to our nations survival. One issue that could tear the nation apart was slavery. In order to keep the republic as strong as possible, we waited to abolish slavery until we were stronger - evading the threat that stronger countries could come in n easily defeat a DISUNITED United States.
that was a very late statement by Mr.Adams. they where already the british "negros" i say that because they where taxed heavely, made to fight for the british during the french/ indian war, and above all they had no reps in the british parlement
britain owned him and the rest of the founding fathers.

comprehend he conducted an amphibious river crossing in the dark leading a major urban attack in the dark...and wiping the excellent enemy out!...he is a good general!/milwaukee...1st lieutenant 84th division usar-retired
george's virginia militia also fought native american redskins...so he had no hangups trashing the hessians christmas partying!...he needed flints...black powder ...cannon...and horses ...and the food from the expensive hessian mercenary units...
the hessian king (west germany) rented out his excellent soldiers to the british empire for cash $...it was against european rules of war to attack at night during the christmas party!
and you are still paying taxes so what changed you still get your homes taken of you so you move forwared then and he turned 13,000 troops on your owen when they said not to taxes he won one battel

that was a very late statement by Mr.Adams. they where already the british "negros" i say that because they where taxed heavely, made to fight for the british during the french/ indian war, and above all they had no reps in the british parlement
britain owned him and the rest of the founding fathers.

it is better to see the land drinced in blood than to live as a slave!!!
myaangeline 2 years ago
why it is undeniable that GW owned slaves, there's a reason.
