zoom works fine for me in pics as well as movies, the video u see here uses full zoom i.e 8X, try playing with the video options. I mostly record in HD quality and i am able to use full zoom i.e. 8X

I just picked up the ZR1 but my zoom on movies only appears to be 3x. Is this the case for you as well? I was expecting 8x Optical Zoom.
