  • Do you ever use side combs to hold your styles in place? I have thick hair and have a hard time keeping it in place with just bobies. Any tips? :)

  • your hair color reaaaaally suits you.

  • Fab technique

  • dont wash your hair for a day or two. it'll get the natural oils that will dd texture as well as keeping flyaways in check.

  • awww, so pretty :-) which hair sprays do you use? the reason im asking is cuz i have long hair too and i dont wanna destroy them using unhealthy stuff.. which ones do you say are good? i will be waiting for the answer :-)

  • @wavokiaado I tend to use the Tresseme hairsprays at this point, though I have also heard good things about L'Oreal's Elnett too; I just haven't tried it yet!

  • uughh i couldn't do the pull back twist and pin thing and my hand got tired xD

  • nice

  • your tutorial is great:) good tips

  • Any advice for guys who want to do their hair in the 1940's style?

  • @ConservativeSamizdat Unfortunately I don't have any tips about men's hairstyle from the 40s.

  • @elegantlyamused: Thanks for the reply. Keep up with the good videos.

  • @ConservativeSamizdat Maybe I could help here. :) Men's hair in the 1940's wasn't nearly as complicated as us ladies, but was styled in similar ways. For a casual look, simply slicking your hair back with gel and keeping it sleek throughout the day looks very handsome. If you're looking for a more formal style, try looking up a tutorial on easy finger waves. As a guy, you can slick your hair back and have the finger waves on one side. :)

  • @ConservativeSamizdat slick your hair back and have bangs in the late 40s the jerry cirl was beginning to come into style.

  • What was the music used in the intro and outro? I loved it!!! :)

  • @allfantasticthings21 Unfortunately I got it from a free music site years ago and no longer have it on my computer, nor do I remember what it was called. :(

  • Natural texture and size for us flat-hairers: plait your hair, leave it in overnight, pull it out. Whammo, volume.

  • What was the song used in the intro and outro? I loved it!! :)

  • You know if you google image '1940s hairstyles' your pic comes up on the first line :P

  • When a person has thin and not naturally volumanous(sp?) hair, another way to amp the hair up is to not wash it one day. Doing an 'every other day' washing is better for the hair and gives it more hold when styling.

  • Oh my god, you have no idea how much this saves me today!! Thanks!

  • Hey :) just discovered your channel and blog and i love them! just wanted to throw some advice in on the whole volumising and thickening hair issue, i fine that dry shampoo, the spray on type, really helps to thicken up hair and give it some body, especially for freshly washed hair, it lets you play around with the hair and manipulate it really easily :D hope this helps anyone with that problem XXX

  • @Sophiethefoof Thanks so much for the tip!!! :)

  • Your hair looks soooo soft :D

  • Omg thank you!!

  • I heart 1940's look pretty much. :D

  • your so pretty :')

  • I adore the golden years when women were not afraid to be truly feminine.

  • Fine hair benefits from washing every other day AND texturizing creams. Thanks for the styling tips!

  • i wish i lived in the 1940's so bad.

  • I'm so going to try this!!! Really pretty style. I have long, thick hair like yours, and I'm not the best at doing my own hair. This looks pretty easy, and it's very pretty once it's done! Thanks for the tutorials!!

  • whats that for a song at the beginnng of your video?

    great hair!

  • u r so pretty

  • youre very pretty :)

  • You should try the L'oreal Elnett satin hairspray!

It is just great and holds hair all day without fly-aways. It is a bit pricey, but it's worth it. Also, it is a flexible hairspray,so you don't get that hard feeling in your hair =).

  • the only flaw about tht is i hate the way it smells i have it:)

  • Good Job Girl! I was in a show set the the 1940s for 1 1/2 years and I'm a big band singer. You are right there! It is a bit easier for your longer hair but you are right there!!! Tons of spray and pins!

  • the 1940's were so elegant!

  • it's a pretty shape

  • your hair colour is very nice!!!!!

  • Thank you so unbelievably much. I'm going to a fancy dress party tonight and the theme was 'favourite movie character' and I am going as Evelyn Johnson from Pearl Harbor so your tutorials where a BIG help!

  • OMG I've been looking through youtube videos for something like Rachel Mcadams in the notebook. Your video is great Thanks,

  • Great. I love it . But.... you talking little bit too much :-)

  • you....are...gorgeous.

  • thank youuu its nice to know this style isnt dead ! your greaatt :D

  • I know alot of 1940's tutorials do the victory rolls but my grandmom was a hat model in the 1940's during the war and she taught me the exact same way you are doing it. To twist the sides and pin. I love it ! She used to do my hair when I was young. I miss her now. That generation was the best! Strong women for sure. Thanks

  • Great tutorial, very thorough and friendly!

  • this is so cute!!!! im gonna use this hair style! thank you :)

  • 3:35 mins into the video she finally gets into the tutorial..you talk far to much

  • I have really really curly hair and a straighten it a lot, is there a 1940's style that I can use for curly hair?? btw I wish all the poeple who are telling you you talk to much to fuck off! you dont talk to much, your telling us of how to do it and being in depth of things! I love your tutorials, I'm wanting a 1940's pin up style photoshoot for my 18th so I'm gonna style my hair like this xxx

  • you have beautiful hair, love :)

  • You talk to much, you need to jsut get on with it. serioustly.

  • super helpful, and super cute!

  • less talking more doing

  • nice hairstyle.but,ya,too much talking.

  • I couldnt make it past 3:12. Way too much talking.

  • Very nice hairstyle. Does anyone know the music at the start of the video?

  • there's only two parts to this cause you talk too much, you need to quit the chatting a bit and just cut to the chase. just a suggestion though, and the 1940's hair style and look, looks sooooo gorgeous on you! i'm jealousss.

  • your beautiful!

i love your natural fresh look

  • you talk too much!

  • thank you!

  • This is a great hairstyle. Thank you for explaining fulling how you do it, esp. the way the bobbypins were put in the hair to keep it in place. The explaining helps a lot. Thank you.

  • I like this type of hair style alot. Thanks for the video.

  • Im sorry but I had to stop watching this cos you like the sound of your own voice. We just want to see how to do your hair not sit for 10 minutes while you run your mouth!!

  • Ive tried this look and I LOVE it!! i get so many compliments on it! thanks for the awesome video!!

  • the audio is really bad

  • urp.

  • Just found this today....my hair actually looks just like yours, so I was hoping this would be a full 40's do example. I was quite disappointed that it only included how to do the front of the hair since I have worn that style many times already. Do you know how to do the "entire" 40's do that includes the back like you see in the movies (where the front is twisted like this AND the back is rolled)?

  • Check out her other videos, she does have a more advanced version something like that

  • Did you notice that there's a part two to this vid? With the back done too?

  • what kind of program do u use to make ur movies?

  • too much talk! :)

  • any ideas on what to do with my fringe (bangs) with this look?

    great video!

  • Discovered your videos last night - tried this one today and it looked awesome. Thank you and please post more soon!

  • what did u try?

  • did this today with my hair down in the back and i got so many compliments! thanks!

  • omg!! thank u

  • i love the hair vids ;?)*

  • You look like Rachel McAdams. Very pretty.

    :D

  • Thanks so much! I just tried this and it looks amazing! I've been trying to look for a semi-easy 40s hair, that I can do before school and I don't have to worry about it coming out. Thanks again!

  • This really is beautiful.

  • Doing this style is actually way easier if you have medium length hair cause i have almost the same haircut as her and i do those in like 10 min without any trouble =]

  • I love this!! I really like the exaggerated victory rolls and rockabilly style but this is a nice day to day look. it's still retro but it's subtle i love it!

  • I wish i had long hair!!

    UGH

    imma let it grow out

    :D

  • i really love it!!

  • what song was that at the beginning?

  • its a really longgggg video! i loved it, but i think you could squeeze it into about 5 or 6 minutes. Loved it though:)

  • That looks so cute!

  • dude you look like judy garland hahahaha

  • You did a terrific job

so many girls on youtube are doing terrible jobs with their hair tutorials

and they slap a "Vintage Hair tutorial" title on it

yours looks so soft and natural but controlled just right

like it came right out of a movie from that period

    Awesome job

    -Henry

  • the bobby pin tip was really helpful too (:

  • Thank you sooo soo much for making this video!!!

I was in a production of South Pacific (the musical), and as you may know it's set in the 40's. I found this video the day before dress rehearsal, and the hairstyle was absolutely perfect!! It was easy, quick, and I did it with bangs too! (just use a ton of hairspray, lol) But anyway, my director complimented me on how my hair looked like it was right out of the era. Thank you!!

  • Extremely hot

  • Awesome video! Thank you sooooo much! I've been looking at tons of vids now, trying to find a suitable and doable style for my hair for a wedding, and yours worked like a charm! I liked the length, too, it gave me time to copy you step by step instead of just having to rush or pause the vid all the time. Five stars! =)

  • I found this video very helpful, if it was shorter I wouldn't have gotten all the information to do this hair style. I guess people are use to fast paced everything! Keep up the good work! You are awesome!

  • why she talk so much???...

  • I did really like this video and the style is cute. But I found it a little drawn out. I mean, almost 10 minutes to place 5 or 6 hair pins!

I'm just saying, not really critising, lol. But I still really like the style, thanks.

  • i also thik that she said um a little much...not trying to be rude, its just alittle constructive critisism....

  • Does it work if you have bangs!?!?:/

  • I think it could! If you have longer bangs, you may be able to pin them up, and into the sides and blend them in. Otherwise, I think this would be super-cute if you left the bangs down and nicely curled them under (a curling iron would probably work best!). :)

  • your hair is gorgeous,

i cant really do hairstyles like that cause mine is to thin, and cause i have a side fringe, its a bit awkward, also i hate a huge forehead soooo

but it looks soo pretty on you and more people should look like this now, but its nice just a few :)

  • Wow darlin', you are so beautiful. You'd have been a starlet in the 40s. I wish women wore their hair like that now-a-days.

  • You are such a pro!!! I absolutely LOVE this hairstyle I can' t even tell you!!!!!!!!! Which country are you from?? You are pretty!!! And I really like your style... I am kinda your style too, but you are gorgeous!! XP Btw, how old are you?

  • No sound!?

  • This is really cute ^_^ I'm gonna try this tomorrow...thanks!!!

  • holy freak you remind me of pam from the office haha that rocks

  • OMG!!

    She does!!

  • what IS the face shape for the center part?

  • Oval/Long. If you have a square, round or just short face a centre part is not so hot.

  • Comment removed

  • keep a lot of bobby pins =D And hairspray. Also, soft bristle brushes are good.

  • I love your style but also really like your intro music. What is the name of the song or artist/band (on each of your vid intros)?

  • You have beautiful hair. Thanks for posting I can't wait to try!

  • Wow you're so beautiful and elegant! You're totally sweet to and have a nice presentation style. I tried this on my uber straight hair and it looked great. Thanks so much! XX

  • So glad to hear it worked for you! I've been curious how it's working for other hair types, so thank you for the feedback! :)

  • Wow, this is extremely frustrating. =P Looks lovely on you though!

  • Hubba hubba!

  • I wish this worked better with curly hair! I have such a difficult time trying to get 40s hairstyles to look good.

  • What you can do is not really smooth your curls out, but just gently pull them back and let the waves show and that owould give it a completley different style! Hope it helps.

  • What if you have bangs ?

What do you do with them ??

  • to maiasmuse:

if you have bangs and want a retro look, try curling them under, towards your forehead.

  • I do not have enough hair for such things T.T !!!! Anyone knows this type of video for thin hair XD ?

  • do you think this style will work on shoulder length hair? someone help ;__:
