The software is pretty comfortable in use, and I can see why people would use it. But for me I find it kind of pointless, as you can basically do all this stuff already by putting files in folders. Unless I´m missing something here, anyone agree?
@49hth Perhaps it is "pointless" (I myself don't use it). But there are, for instance, a lot of people who dis application launchers because windows search, the windows button, the ability have a folder as a toolbar, and desktop icons are all very convenient and good for the job... but no one I know (even extreme computer buffs) can, say search and find something one the internet, save something in a specific folder, or lauch a program nearly as fast as I can with my launcher (Launchy).
@49hth i am a service tech and i find it great for organizing task and info... if i need to order parts or do research to order parts , i put the needed info in my work note book . there i can record model serial number , contacts time and date stamp etc..
I hunted high and low for a suitable place to put my keys when I got home. Then I found One Note. Key problems are now a thing of the past. I can put my keys down anywhere without a care. @stevenbuehler That's really smart of you to attract my attention to this point! I never thought of that. That's a major limitation of Microsoft products of all sorts >> All are ONLY for Windows!
@VideoDocR Well, Word for Mac has a "Notebook view," which is similar to the layout of OneNote, but saves off as word docs rather than OneNote notebooks.
@looliefernandez Actually, Word does now have tabs in Word 2010. Check out the new Navigator Pane on the left-hand side of the document window. I love it!
@skblanch OMG! :) i'm currently learning how to use office 2007 because i'll be tested on it at college but i guess i'll buy the 2010 directly then! thanks for the info :) you've made me happy :) hehe
@lorimer071 i guess by downloading it.. you may use jdownloader to download'em.. it's easy to use and fast at downloading (it is sometimes even faster to download the vids than wait for them to load here)
I'm a big OneNote fan, specially since Skydrive synchronization became available. Recently tried OneNote for iPhone, it's cool but personally think it lacks some important features, "rich" notes (those who contain tables, drawings, etc) should be able to be viewed on the phone (I know editing would be quite complex for such hardware), when I add a table using the OneNote desktop or Office web app version, it's not even shown on the phone, except for a text [Table].
@BoxxyFan I agree except for your latter comment,,, i prefer some cream white paper and a brand new lead pencil from bic any day... but idk,,, i guess its just the fact that its a computer and technology... idk sometime about it really pulls me in,,
Seriously though - it's a cool concept and it solved the major problem with online collaboration which was the lack of an intuitive interface. I remember when all of this online collaboration stuff started with "sharepoint" at the (huge) corporation I worked for at that time. Conceptually it was interesting but the interface was so wonky and militant that we spent more time maintaining various folder accesses and file structures than working.
@trollwarlord3 yah... but see, its not easy to keep stuff organized and especially when youre writing side notes.. imagine using Word for 6 different classes. it can get kind of tedious at times,
I dont know how professionals use it but as a student this offers me nothing that 2007 didnt give me. I want a better way to organize my crap, i want a better system for importing thins onto the page as well, and maybe some cloud hosting.
What do you people think is better to use when you're at a lecture for example, and you want to get the most optimal ''notes'' written down on a document. Is it better to use onenote than the regular word document for quick and efficient writing, or how are you guys finding it?
how do you get rid of the box that appears around your text as soon as you start typing anything?? i find that very annoying. i want to be able to type 'outside' the box so to speak.
@marky61198 From what I can see, no, word is more of a word processor for typing out whole documents while one note is information storage. Technically you could use word for the stuff that one note does and one note for the stuff that word does but it would probably be more difficult to create and use.
ONENOTE: a place to illustrate the chaos in the scatterbrained minds of corporate tools. Try spinning around with a crayola and a napkin it cost less.
I need to change my name to something exotic, so I can work for microshaft....
Something with impossible phonetically pronunciation, geographically agnostic and says " I must know something with a name like that." Name that projects a sence of confidence and entitlement, while I smugly hide behind obscure irrelevant concepts.
I never use One Note even though I have it with Office 2010. I'm thinking of getting used to it though, since I have diagnosed ADHD and I lose very important things easily... :) Wait, what was I doing again?
I have OneNote 2010. 2003 has snap to grid that can be turned on or off. 2010 doesn't have a setting for a grid. However, pressing Alt and dragging the code block with the mouse does snap to some hidden grid. Okay, so there is a grid. Then why does OneNote not mention this in their help file? It is one of the worse help documents I've used. What is this hidden grid and why is the Alt key function not documented? How can I keep it turned on?
It really is a brilliant program! with a tablet pc note taking is just so easy! One thing i hate though is that it thinks it is smart to have standard angels for a line like 90 and 45 degrees, but when i want a line to sit right in 90 degrees it just goes free hand so i can point it everywhere, but when i don't want it to, it does it. That can drive me crazy! just make everything free hand and then shift should make perfect cirkles, squares, straight lines etc.
same neither do i. i just have it on my laptop, everything you would use a notebook for is exactly the same with onenote. Categories to the left are like different notebooks, tabs are different sections in each notebook, and pages.. are pages. (But you dont run out of paper)
its really a place to put your information together. it adds the date for you. keyboard shortcuts are really useful. hold CTRL and / will make a number list.
One Note + Tablet PC + Portable Scanner = Perfect workstation.
If they just make One Note 2010 to be like 2007 with smoother erase and select tools it would be perfect. The only issue I have with 2007 is the issue of heavy slow down and lag when I select large areas of stuff I have hand written. A minor gripe at best but that is about the only improvement I can suggest.
Please create an option to completely remove the ribbon in full-screen writing mode. Even if I minimize it, it still leave like 1cm toolbar... This means I'm missing one line of writing on the screen, so I have to scroll the page to fit this last line... A huge number of people use OneNote for writing on a Tablet PC and that's it, where every millimeter of the screen is important.... Thanks
My following comment is probably dumb because I have never used One Note.
But wouldn't Microsoft Word itself be perfect for note taking if the developers just add tabs to mark each page and provide a system that allows moving one multiple page projects to another - probably using some kind of outline / thumbnail menu bar that we've seen in power point or web browser?
Word itself allows embedded objects like pictures, sounds, and other formats. It creates TOC. So what's the difference?
Faster. for instance if you want to create a number list you just hold CTRL+ /
The entire program is made for searching and creating notes faster.I occasionally use audio recording for it to encode my teacher's voice and make the notes write themselves. OneNote was made just for notes.. not assignments or documents. You don't ever have to click the save button, it saves automatically. im using onenote 2007.
Number list can be created in Word just by typing 1 plus period sign. There are a lot of hotkey commands in Word. And why does Word never implement a real auto save option instead of auto recover?
Maybe I'll appreciate OneNote as a separate application once I start using it. Right now I haven't been able to get Office 2007, and the fact that Office 2010 is coming I might have to wait.
I have this,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, But i dont know what it is for how to use it, i baught all the microsoft office products exept the the things i know how to use in them is word and powerpoint )-";
The problem I've had with Microsoft products is that the files *unexpectedly* get corrupted (esp. during a PC crash). It's a "NIGHTMARE" to suddenly lose critical information. A few years ago I started using text files and organizing them through a program like NotePad+ I'm trying OneNote (because Ayca is so cute..;-) but I'm being EXTREMELY cautious.
"Thanks for joining me today, OH by the way, our lazy code writer still hasn't fixed the page problem, in other words, you won't know where each page ends so your project can be cut off anywhere in the document, when printing, but don't worry, we'll fix it one day."
@spiritsA why would one print from One Note? It's not really meant for that. You should copy it all into Word or another program. This is mostly for rough ideas, not finished content.
Because Microsoft Words doesn't support Tablet writing whereas OneNote does. If you're a tablet person, you'll want to print out your own hand drawn notes.
OneNote is what will separate MS from AAPL should AAPL release a Tablet. I believe in AAPL's engineering and interface superiority, but I think OneNote has an unsurmountable lead, as well as being one of the few, truly, user friendly MS apps. Now if we could just get a $500 tablet with an active digitizer and 5 hours of battery life, we could truly revolutionize how students organize.
One Note was my most essential tool during my Doctoral studies. I wish I had been aware of it during college. Glad to see that they are making it even more capable and efficient.
As someone who's never used OneNote I am wondering which of the features presented are new. Cause after watching this clip I am considering buying Office Home and Student 2007. Are the new features so great that it's worth the wait?
I'm just going tosay.... this application kicks ass - people don't know about it but it one of the best flippin' applications Microsoft has if you are constantly taking notes at school, etc. All searchable and finally - all on YOUR computer not on someone elses Server for collecting information about your habits and feeding you advertisement.

2007 looks neater and easier

OneNote is what will separate MS from AAPL should AAPL release a Tablet. I believe in AAPL's engineering and interface superiority, but I think OneNote has an unsurmountable lead, as well as being one of the few, truly, user friendly MS apps. Now if we could just get a $500 tablet with an active digitizer and 5 hours of battery life, we could truly revolutionize how students organize.

One Note was my most essential tool during my Doctoral studies. I wish I had been aware of it during college. Glad to see that they are making it even more capable and efficient.

Evernote isn't just mac only. It runs across both platforms and on windows mobile phones.

Trouble is Evernote is miles off being anywhere near as good as Onenote. I'd love to use it, I've tried but always end up back with Onenote

I used One Note regularly through college, and still use it today in my Master's studies.

As someone who's never used OneNote I am wondering which of the features presented are new. Cause after watching this clip I am considering buying Office Home and Student 2007. Are the new features so great that it's worth the wait?

The only significant new thing for me as a student is being able to sync over Live and edit notebooks from anywhere, including inside a browser.
You might also be interested in the ribbon interface, but that's not particularly useful in and of itself.
Finally, OneNote 2010 has complex math equation supoport, something which was sorely lacking from the 2007 version for science students.

I could sync OneNote over the internet with my live account? Like in EverNote? Now I'm definently getting OneNote 2010!

Evernote is not mac-only.

I've loved this product ever since it came out last year. Not sure why they changed the name from Evernote to OneNote, though.

@ajbezark
...? Evernote and OneNote are different products. Evernote is Mac-only while OneNote is Windows-only.

Not only Evernote and OneNote are different applications, they are made by different companies as well.
