Mahalo for this video. The honu are loud when they bob their heads up and inhale fresh air. But their bodies are very efficient in using every bit of oxygen in their bloodstream so they can stay underwater from 15 minutes to even two hours before exhaling, depending on their metabolism.
that is one big turtle!!! omgawsh that could like eat me if it wanted, if i was there with a big net, id catch that turtle!!!! and then id give it some food, put it in a big monster truck and drive it home and keep it as a pet
Sea turtles are such amazing, interesting beings. It disturbs me to know how quickly their numbers are declining. I was in Florida the past week and was saddened to see tons of garbage floating all over in the ocean =[
These ancient creatures are so beautiful . they are as much entitled to live on earth as we the humans do . we all belong to mother Earth equally . Sadly , this greedy selfish ape Man does not want to realize it ...
I'm a bit of a turtle fanatic ... admittedly. I have adopted a loggerhead (female) that has been tracked in the Florida Keys. She's lovely. I also care for dozens upon dozens of local freshwater (painted) turtles in their own environment.
I'm ever-amazed by them ... and I also love that you captured their huge exhale upon exiting the water! SUPER footage here!
I once went diving near Byron bay in Australia. There are this small islands named Julian Rocks I believe. The divemaster said: I have a big surprise for you. He showed me an underwater cave and gestured, go in. I looked in that cave and there was this enormous seaturtle. It was much larger than I am and I think it was a Leatherback, not sure. Really scary that large beek. Sharkie did not enter the cave, hehe :-)
hehe it's sounds so neat when they come up for air. What are they doing on the side? Are they getting food or they're just resting but like to keep their heads under water?
Fantastic video! I know that the green seaturtle you have filmed is protected (at least in Hawaii) but I just do not understand why our gov't must wait for a steep decline before taking action...
What a great video. So peaceful. We need to do all we can to keep these guys around forever. My 3 year old is already on a quest for this! Where was this shot?
thank you, fabulous footage of these amazing creatures. thank you for the links to oceana, I willgo there now. i live the Gulf of Mexico, when I first moved here this area was not overly developed and we had turtles laying their eggs on the beach, but the developers moved in and then the high rises and condos and no more turtles...so sad. i have subbed to you!!!!
Wow! Thank you sooo very much my Friend and the Turtles especially Thank You! So sad about what the development did to the Turtle population where you live. They are very sensitive creatures. May be you can get involved with reintrooducing them to the area?
Not necessarily my Friend. A lot of people have contributed to many causes such as these in order to help protect The Earth's Creatures and have risked their own hides in doing so and will continue to do so.
To remain pessimistic about it only promotes apathy unfortunately.

Profoundly sad. While these awesome creatures are the oldest living family of reptiles surviving every obstacle nature had hurled at them, sad that the supposedly thinking species are the ones that could cause their termination.
The conscience of people who realized and not do something about it are liable. Thanks to people like Katherine, Wally, Trish and Mark, they make it easier to redeem ourselves... signing petition.*****
