You said in the description that you converted this from the original midi. Do you mean the one that Harmonix released? Do you have to take it off of the console and edit it, or can they be downloaded somewhere?
@magiktrix101 I think any chart this guy does is way better than anything Rock Band can cook up. He should have their job and they should be fired cuz they screw up songs like painkiller
@MindViRuSeS This is exactly right. He had incredible timing with the Bass pedal and he was great at off-beat cymbals, but there were things other drummers had that The Rev didn't. He may have modeled his original drum style after Mike Portnoy, but they aren't even close, at this point.
@SHGrinnz Believe me, I know how hard this is to chart, but there's a lot of fine tuning needed to be done. Do you have a more recent video of the fixed track?
@YamahaMX250 The intro has already been corrected, if you read earlier comments, I changed it to be RR BY GB. Many of the quick double bass bursts have pickup kicks before the beat which are rather inaudible in the final mix, but you can hear them when playing only the kicks in practice mode.
@YamahaMX250 dude you're wrong there actually is a pause. and the double bass thing doesn't really matter, it sounds almost exactly the same either way.
I think the kicks are off in a few points. Mainly during this "easy soul to steal" - he's actually whipping those kicks. It's under a 3/4 polyrhythm, technically only involving three kicks instead of the charted four. It's pretty common with this style of drumming.
@TheNotSoAmazingGuy The thing is tho, each drummer is amazing in their own way. The rev was really good with keeping signature offbeats on the cymbals.
In the intro, he hits two toms, not the same tom twice. There's a video of him and his son playing it, they both hit two toms. And you can kinda hear it, too >.>
@jeleopard He plays it differently in that vid. He doesn't even hit the snare twice there. In the album version used in RB it sounds like the last two toms are lower than the middle two to me.
@jeleopard I chart Tool; I never trust covers when it comes to toms. Regardless; if you listen to the toms alone in RB practice mode, the last two have a different sound from the first two.
@jeleopard Also, I was inclined to go with the Portnoy vid you mentioned at first (other than the snare thing) but it would make sense if the Rev played it like this, for him to play it like this on the album but then differently in his own "cover".
@jeleopard Never said it wasn't; he might have played differently on the album than he would in his own style. The demo of the song was played by the Rev
Ok good chart but sooo many mistakes, at 1:31 , the snare/hihat doesnt alternate with the bass, its bass with hihat and the snare alternating, at 1:39, the same thing except there isnt double bass. at around 1:50 there arent that many ride hits. honestly dude, go watch the video of mike playing it with his son, youll see.
@Ggevorkyan The kicks and snares are exactly where I put them in the stems in Rock Band and the album version of the song. He plays it differently in that video.

Those quadruplet kicks should be triplets.

@sidewinder2132 Many of them have a ghost pickup kick
SHGrinnz 4 months ago
@SHGrinnz What does that mean?
sidewinder2132 4 months ago
@sidewinder2132 Portnoy starts the kicks on his right foot, but the first kick is before the beat and very light.

@SHGrinnz Ahh, I see.
sidewinder2132 4 months ago
@SHGrinnz Not all of us are superman like Mike is. If you looked for a drum cover, whoever is playing would be using triplets.

how accurate is this chart? also can you make an expert+ chart of critical acclaim, almost easy, or a little piece of heaven if you have time?

@kyuubimaster1 I'm still unsure on some of the fills but for the most part I believe it is accurate.
SHGrinnz 1 year ago
@SHGrinnz ok thanks, the last thing i want to know is how accurate do you think that fill is in the solo with a bunch of kicks lol?

@Naturallysly There's no polyrhythm there. You can hear in RB practice mode by playing only the kicks, that that is how they go.

Portnoy = 100x better than the Rev ever was or could have been. He's too generic other than his random fills that he plays every once in awhile.

So that's more toms...
jeleopard 1 year ago
@jeleopard Also, I was inclined to go with the Portnoy vid you mentioned at first (other than the snare thing) but it would make sense if the Rev played it like this, for him to play it like this on the album but then differently in his own "cover".
SHGrinnz 1 year ago
@SHGrinnz
But it's Portnoy. It's his recording.
jeleopard 1 year ago
@jeleopard Never said it wasn't; he might have played differently on the album than he would in his own style. The demo of the song was played by the Rev
SHGrinnz 1 year ago
@SHGrinnz
They did many, many takes to get Portnoy to mimic the style of the Rev. You can hear the toms, that's how it's written.
jeleopard 1 year ago
@jeleopard I'm probably going to change it to RR BY GB, would that make sense to you?
