I really miss this most underrated performance artist. I saw one of his shows where he did a Jimi Hendrix as his finale and he painted it upside down. When he finished it, it kinda' looked like Jimi but a little odd. He played up the crowd like he made a mistake but then he turned the large canvas upside down (or rather right side up) and voila'...a perfect Hendrix. Just brilliant to have painted it upside down. I wish I owned one of his pieces. A lost legend.

I had the privilege of watching Denny perform at the University of Wyoming about 8 years ago - he did a painting of Hendrix that looked like he fucked it up until he turned the canvas UPSIDE DOWN and it was almost identical to this one!! The man was phenominal! God rest his soul!!

I saw Denny Dent paint Hendrix onstage following Robert Cray (before Robert Cray?) at Penn State in 1985 or 1986. He painted a Hendrix portrait on two panels, which only when completed and turned upside down revealed the face of Jimi. My mind was quite memorably blown. Saw this video years later and savored the memory. Wish I could have seen Jimi . . . Thanks for this video.

Back in 1995 or 1996, I believe, I saw Denny Dent live at the Los Angeles Convention Center during a food convention of the distributing company that my husband worked for. He was painting Elton John at that time. My son was in a stroller, and I was dancing to the music while Denny Dent did the Elton John painting in front of all of the attendees of the convention. He's just great!
