from my experience of gouken, i've tired many moves on gouken to improve my game. I've also whatched lots of other people and pro's reply, and it seem that gouken's strength are mostly mixs ups, counter and ultra. Sure his normal are strong but they aren't that easy to connect even if you do plinking. he isn't like ryu who you can rely on wake up upper cutts to get out from difficult situation. you need lots of read from your opponents, punish them by doing lots of counter hits and ultra.

@samueltennis tatsu from backthrow is ok for damage and you'll see gouken players throw it out if it'll end the game. but usually most skilled players go for the jump mp + hp + gf to mix up because the damage potential is greater and mostly because you get a lot more stun

And I agree with the below; it isn't easy to get in that grab with Gouken because Gouken's short range game is rather bad, and half the time skilled players see it coming.

@UBOAF You could spam with his hadoukens, but good Gouken players don't like taking advantage of it. His grab to ultra is his only decent move for a comeback. At least in SF4, his demon flip to kick hit low if they didn't block low, and that was a good pressure comeback. In SSF4 that's taken out, and Gouken became useless again, with the last resort being the grab.

Yeah non-Gouken players don't know how much disadvantage the old man has. They should be happy we grab and not spam hadoukens.

@UBOAF Gouken was the second character I learned, after ken. I picked Gouken because I was having a hard time going against a fireball game, and I was fucking myself constantly trying to uppercut. Solved two problems at once :P

So many times in this match gouken could have easily called the fei long on his recka's with a counter.
