Caught this on Vs. last night. It's funny that the ending of this movie seems so Hollywood, but it actually happened at the Tour de France a few years AFTER this movie came out. Greg LeMond beat Laurent Fignon by a few seconds on the last day. Think it was a time trial, not head to head, but I remember the clock ticking down and Fignon lunging toward the line...
@badgernation74 Sure glad I'm not the only one who remembers this and how that TdF finish between Fignon and LeMond and this movie really got me into cycling as it did...really funny how things play out, but I'm not sorry it did...opened my eyes up to cycling for sure...this movie was one of the first I ever saw Kevin Costner in too...great movie for sure...and you don't have to ride to love it either! :-)
The next time you watch this movie, check this out... During the training session where the two are squirting each other with their water bottles. Marcus hurls his bottle at Davey and it looks as though it landed perfectly in Davey's bottle cage on the bike! Helluva shot there Marcus! Oh and Becky(Alexandra Paul) is a GODDESS!!
Great song, Super Great movie! If the voice of the singer sounds familiar it's because Glen was the lead singer for The little River Band. LRB, man those guys were MINT!
alltime classic im 41 now and remember a whole bunch of us joined a local cyclying club after watchin this ,happy days indeed ,just listening to this makes me want to get my old bike out the shed again ,damm it i am off for a cycle rite now. thanx a million for posting dude.
One of the most inspirational movies. Makes me want to go for a ride at 2:20 a.m. I wish the world would get active, again. We could have so much fun if people simply wanted to.
Yeah, it's been digitized & is available for purchase & instant download thru Amazon's video on demand; you can rent or purchase it. Great motivator for the Boulevard Lake Front Tour in August!
Agreed. the soundtrack were excellent! reminds me of watching Tou de France on ABC Wide World of Sports in the 80's.. really love those days when drugs/steroids/epo were NOT the main topic in cycling. And the 7-eleven team, of course!!!
@ryanjack111 This is why i LOVE this movie, all these synth tracks, and Zangief on a bike :P HEY, did the producers never heard of Coppi, Bartali, Anquetil, Bahamontes, Anquetil? :P
@ryanjack111 Someone else noticed ! I would have thought his beard would have got caught in his evil Ruskie spokes ! This film is ok but Breaking Away leaves it for dead.....
i love this film and road cycling, i watched it yesterday and it made me really want to go cyclign the nest day, i went out on a century ride and on the first 20 miles i had a huge crash on a desent and no im off cyclign for 6 weeks du to a broken wrist :P
I love this movie because it shows american cycling before Lance. My only regret about this movie was that they used the title the cannibal... that's Eddie Merkx's title! I guess Eddie was cool with it because he got a cameo at the start of one of the races.
This is the movie that got me into cycling when I was 12 or 13. I'm in my mid thirties now. Time flies! Seeing this brings back some great memories. Thanks to Glenn Shorrock!
@Sonoali Kevin Costner was the corpse in 'The Big Chill'. Unfortunately he ended up on the cutting room floor. He did have a small part in 'Night Shift' as one of the fraternity brothers partying in the morgue.
I saw this film in my early years and loved it then. I love it even more now. Thank you for making a film that holds our hearts and soul's even till this day. It holds it's standing alongst Highlander & Bladerunner & the rest. Thank you.
The ending of the movie is almost prophetic. The 1989 Tour de France ended in a similar fashion. To this day, that final time trial is the most exciting sporting event that I've ever seen. I'll always remember how excitied I was when the seconds were ticking away and Laurent Fignon was coming down the Champs Elysees, and was clearly not going to finish in time...
i love this song it reminds me of myn and my dads long bike irdes we used to listen to it b4 we went on a hack threw the country side and stuff and wen we were trainin love the video to x (Y)
Love this movie. My parents were big into cycling back in 1985. This movie really brings back the feel of that time, posative and upbeat! The 80's were the Best!
Hi Johnyqwest, Thank you for posting this song. I love all the music from this movie. Any chance you wouldnt mind burning a copy and sending it to me? Of course I will pay for shipping and dvd fees if you want me to.
I sooo love this movie! A bit corny nowadays, but the story is excellent! Competition, pushing yourself hard, limits, etc and what beautiful scenery! I just leanred yesterday that the guy that did the song was the guy from the little river band! How COol is that?
All I can tell you is that I went to Yahoo music and typed in "American Flyers" and it listed the soundtrack as being available. Did you see it there?
I'm a complete mug; I bought a subscription to Rhapsody, downloaded the software, and nothing. Yahoo Music says the soundtrack is available to download from Rhapsody, but Rhapsody says they've never heard of it.
The soundtrack is occasionally available on cassette tape or vinyl on eBay, but I don't have the equipment to translate it into a digital format, so I'm SOL. Good luck with your search; it really is an excellent soundtrack.
I just watched this movie over the weekend, Loved every minute of it !!!
The soundtrack is great and I have it on my sansa fuze+ for when I ride now.
Can't wait to get my dvd soon.
