Canadian universities in the 60's...Grant, Frye, W.L. Morton, McLuhan. Have our universities 'advanced' with the current preoccupation with preparation for employment.
It is hard to imagine another public intellectual like George Grant appearing on the scene today. It almost seems like we have lost the link to a generation or a social structure that produced (or made it acceptable to produce) thinkers who questioned the very moral foundations of our existence. We don't hear that anymore. What we hear debated is justice as distribution not a discussion of the moral imagination. Grant is missed.

I wish either I had been born earlier, or George Grant had lived longer..
At least (& fortunately) we still have access to his publications & in this case portion of an interview.
I began reading "Lament" yesterday
I think he knew what our future held.
