The credit card companies are preditors. They look at the indicators - run ups on balances by people who formerly had low balances and paid off the balance every month. When the balance goes up and the total is not paid off, it's a signal that these peole can't pay. Their economic situation has changed. The limits are lowered and the interest is raised because the companies know these people are now cash cows. Closing the account and applying for a hardship payoff is the only answer

10 yrs ago, we had a job loss, major medical, business failure and lawsuits within a 6 mos period. We used our credit cards just to put food on the table and gas in the car for job interviews. If faced with hungry children or unpaid utilities, Americans WILL use their Cr Cds. Repayment is mos down the road. Hunger and cold are now! It's like telling someone don't jump out the window when the building is on fire. When you fall behind on the payments - they raise your interest and add penalties.

I was in their position too, and it seemed that they just wanted to suck out as much money as possible via interest and over the limit fees before I disintegrated. They have to know that people can't pay all that, but I think it is a way to inflate the value of the debt before bundling it and selling it in a bond to foreign investors. You fail on someone else's account, not the bank's.

Whatever, it's all unsecured debt. The dumb banks dont seem to realize its those poor people that HAVE THEIR MONEY. If the banks jacked my interest rate to 30% I would laugh in their face. I have good credit so I would just transfer the balance elsewhere. But if I didnt I would tell them get ready for another write down. Oh well, see ya. Oh and when the collector calls he will get a piece of mind too. Greedy banks, I don't feel sorry for them at all.

start a family without employment

move and get yourself in a legal battle over custody or whatever it was

if they could rewind the clock, rent an apartment, wait to start their family until the job came through and resolve the custody issue proactively then they wouldn't be on this television show

i owed them 28,000 i get a letter say if i agree to pay they would forgive me 2000 off my balance cool right and 0% for the life of the loan... just call them. after another week goes by and i get another letter saying they will forgive 18,000 giving me a balance of 11000 if i just call them. they even said i can make payments at 0%...is that crazy..i called them and told them i would rather pay 56,000 in a year when money has no value....

i call my cards and ask for the "save america program" meaning i only pay what i want for 6 month and the interest rate stay the same and after 6 month we will figure out. they said sorry we don`t have that program. i ask them to close my account and i stopped trying to pay them.....
