  • My face instantly smiles through this whole thing, wonderful

  • He's fun to watch. But Mason Williams delivers the real song.

  • You should see Jim Stafford in the movie, "Riding With Death." It's criticed by none other than Mike Nelson, Crow T Robot and Tom Servo of MST3k fame. But I never knew he was this talented. I love spiders and snakes...

  • no freaking way.

  • jaw dropping awesomeness

  • Stafford IS amazing. He can fool around with the guitar with the best of them!

  • Until Johnny Carson spoke I thought this video was on double speed.

  • I think his guitar needs a smoke after that workout.... :)

  • dam...

  • Yippea yie yay cow patty!

  • I play this song like Mason Williams does...by fingerpicking. Jim Stafford is doing it with a flatpick. I don't know how he did it.

  • Wow, I never knew Jim Stafford was such a virtuoso! Incredible! It didn't sound like all of that was coming from him.

  • I never realized how talented this man is. I've always knew he could do humorous songs, but this is something else......

  • remember how comedians used to be worthy of our time and money?

  • Watch how fast his right hand is going at 2:09 +

  • Man I got tired and he was playing

  • un-fucking real........ I was exausted after that..........un-fucking real!

  • shew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't like spiders and snakes, but damn Stafford can play that guitar!!!

  • Holy shit I Iove Jim Stafford! My Dad introduced me to some amazing music. I loved looking at Staffords album in my Dad's collection.

  • Him and Jerry Reed was TOPS

  • Damn, I didn't know he was working with all that!

  • I love this guy, some day I have to make the trip to Brandson and see him live.

  • Jim was and is still great

  • Wow! That is wild, wild stuff. I did not know that. Ed, did you know that? Hey-Ohh! :)

  • Sweet, never knew old Jim did this

  • @TheRockerchef There's a couple different versions of him doing this on You Tube, one from the Smothers Brothers Show and one live from Branson. Both worth a look.

  • @Gnillob802 Thanks I will do that

  • @Gnillob802 Should have mentioned The Branson one is "Jim Stafford Malagena in Branson" (even though he plays Classical Gas).

  • Almost a predecessor to Tommy Emmanuel's version =)

  • sorry for the curses but this is fucking bad ass!

  • did you see the smoke rolling off the guitar? :o ) Love Jim Stafford and miss the hell out of Johnny Carson.

  • Thats just bad Arssaloumas Saw this live back then.

  • at: 0:30... So THAT'S where Eddie VH got the idea!

  • johnny like who cares. jim is a great player though

  • UNBELIEVABLE. WHAT A TALENT!!!!

  • And he still has enough brain left to tap his foot!

  • I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years, and you non-players have NO idea how hard that was for him to play that!

  • @faithycoins So true. You can tell there was a lot of training in his background. On the other hand, some people are born with a gift, (not me!). My 26 year old son has been playing guitar since he was 14 and he was blessed with an impeccable ear and just took off from the first time he strapped on a guitar. He has had a total of maybe 5 lessons. "Classical Gas" is one of his latest triumphs. Tastes range from Satriani to Zappa, classical to flamenco, everything in between. Me? Just a bass player

  • geez.

  • Well, he's no Mason Williams.

  • @rowdymax1: Mason Williams may have wrote the song, but he did not play it like that. Mason Williams had an Orchestral section to play other parts of the song. Jim Stafford incorporated all of those other instruments in with the guitar. You are trippin!

  • You can download the audio-mp3 of this track at fromvideotomp3 doht cohm.

  • Arturo Valdez Guitar from Valdez Guitar Shop, Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles

Thought you might want to know!

  • Damn this guy is amazing...What ever happened to him? I remember Spiders and Snakes and Cow Patti...

  • @expostfactum He has his own theater in Branson, Missouri where he performs all the time.

  • Is he playing with a pick?! and his 3rd finger!!!!! :D

  • wow Jim was young here..great clip..he and Ray Stevens are the funniest talented guys ever

  • Everytime this video is posted, I'm always shocked his acoustic guitar doesn't spontaneously burst into flames.

  • great stuff!!!!!

  • Silly song of the day...

  • Sheesh, who'd have thought that a "Novelty song singer" could play guitar on the same level as Jerry Reed? Impressive.

  • @LarryRickenbacker my thoughts exactly!!!

  • Dang !!

  • Check out the Smother's Brothers Version of the same arrangement - it's CLASSIC (and assisted by the orchestra). He also includes a comedy bit which is very funny. You're in for a treat!

  • Jim Stafford was an inspiration for me.

  • this is awesome veryveryveryvery good loved every, every.every, every, every second bobbymercy1

  • I saw the video title and I thought he was going to fart. I am very disappointed.

  • I love the digression into "Flight of the Bumble Bee" halfway through the piece.

  • *0*!!!!! thks 4 upload this!

  • Scary...but in a good way...Stafford rocks it!

  • He's what you might call "talented."

  • @steve0281 umm.. jut i wee bit lol?!

  • Absolute shredding

  • I remember his summer show in the 70's and loved his work on guitar the best. He is a true guitar wizard and could have become a superstar.

  • God I STILL miss Johnny Carson!

  • @sunsungoaway AMEN!

  • @sunsungoaway AMEN. You don't know what you ave until it's gone.

  • Either way, it was a long time ago. He did make mention "She never told me what she threw off that damn bridge!".

  • My parents saw him in Branson long ago and he said he understood why that guy jumped off the damn bridge lol

  • "I don't like spiders and snakes...."

This gut was married to Jeannie C. Reilly.

  • He wasn't married to Jeannie C. Reilly. He was married to Bobbie Gentry of "Ode to Billy Joe" fame

  • Eat your heart out, Eddie Van Halen!

  • Watch his guitar spontaneously light on fire.

  • HA it's finally back. I've shown my friends this clip and everyone is amazed. They also like one of the clips performed by Tommy Emmanuel.
